So is this normal?

View attachment 184343

It's obviously doing "something", but the bar isn't moving and it's not downloading anything. Is this the decompression stage people are talking about? Sure would be nice if there was more feedback than a non-moving bar.

ps - I'm running it in administrator mode based on suggestions found on Google..

EDIT - GPU just jumped to 100%

That's the classic blue bar bug. Just alt-f4 it and relaunch it again. At some point, it'll move on to the next stage (the actual download). I had to do it 3 times for it to react iirc.

As for the GPU, do not minimize the window, just leave it open. It can be behind other stuff but do not minimize it as it'll make CPU/GPU go through the roof for some reason.

Didn't need admin privileges to get to the download personally.

Anybody who gripes about ED and their "broken" launcher but gives this nonsense a free pass is silly. Well anyway, fingers crossed!

At least FD allow us to avoid their system and use Steam for download/updates. No such luck here, only the 1GB installer is delivered through Steam, and after that it's a glorious return to the MS days of yore which I thought were a thing from the past...

Yeah I'm missing my Steam downloader. It shows the current bandwidth of the download and allows me to adjust that. When I max my bandwidth, everything else slows to a crawl, so I usually cap Steam's downloads just under my max bandwidth to give me a little overhead to do other things. No such joy with this Microsoft downloader.

And why on earth does this downloader need to be over 1 GB in size? It's a DOWNLOADER? Is it because they needed to add a 20 minute splash screen movie at the beginning? Oi!

Finally done! Now I have to wait another 6 hours work until 6pm so I can finally start flying spend the rest of the day customizing options and controls so I can finally fly go to bed because it's 2am 4am already! 😦
Considering the size of the downloader, we should be able to customize our controls WHILE this 90+ GB of data is downloading.

Anyone using the Logitech X52 Pro and managed to get ailerons, elevator and throttle working? It worked in alpha/beta! I can set the ailerons to 'Joystick-R-Axis-X' and it shows as sitting in the midway point once assigned (and saved - F11!) but moving the stick doesn't move the bar in settings and it is the same for elevators and throttle. Rudder pedals are fine and working as expected... Other button assignments are working on the X52 - flaps up/down, gear, trim up/down - just not the X & Y axes... :-(

I have a Logitech X56, but haven't tried it yet, only get to play in about 5 hours...

If for some reason it doesn't work properly, I still have my old Thrustmaster T16000M as backup.

Anyway, fly safe pilots & enjoy our planet. I certainly intend to. If anyone wants to add/look for me in-game, my handle is 'StockportJambo'.
I'm "CMDR Old Duck" (had to add CMDR since 'Old Duck' was taken), but I'll be flying solo for the first couple of weeks. So much to see and do and learn!

Awhile back I entertained the idea of upgrading my computer from 16 to 32 GB RAM and everybody told me "Don't bother." Now that MSFS is out, what's the thought on this?

If we're doing request, it'd be lovely if anyone with the stuff running could tell me if EICM is available. That's my local airfield, formerly airport, now permanently closed for commercial flights, but still home to the local flying club. I'll be a sad panda if it's gone in the sim.

Well that "gamertag" nonsense really mucked me about - also this tunnelling network thingie of theirs took forever to get sorted - I am now going to cook a three course meal, eat it, wash up and no doubt come back to find that is still has not finished downloading and extracting - I feel sorry for people who have slower broadband than my 50meg one...

... and the music is blinkin annoying

I'm just starting the install now. Seems to be working correctly so far. We shall see! It gave me strange gamertag, though. I guess it doesn't matter?

Y'all could set your own gamertag instead of using the one they gave you. I'm "CMDR Old Duck". I also changed my avatar. Now once set, I don't know if you can change it later. I'm guessing not.

Can you? It didn't give me an option that I saw. It just logged me in and showed me my gamertag.

Did anyone tried with TrackIR/equivalent headlook yet?

I can forgive the downloading/install hickups, but I can no longer play any sim without a functioning neck. :)

TrackIR worked out of the box with no setup required.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said for my X55 HOTAS which appears in controls but doesn't seem to have any prebuilt profile for it so do I have to set all the axis controls manually?

I had to create a new XBox account (never bothered with it before). Did you already have an account? If so, it should have given you the chance to change your tag when you first created it. I was very pleased it allowed spaces in the name :D

Another nice thing about the Steam downloader is that I get a solid, even download rate, not this roller coaster ride which sometimes drops to zero! Oh well, tis what it is.

Currently 40% through a 46GB file (fs-base-cgl-0.1.21.fspackage.013) - I've had two download hangs already today - I hope I don't get another one in the middle of this file (as it restarts the download of the file being downloaded at the time of the error).

I found it easy to change the image later - not tried changing the gamertag again. I believe you can change the one you got given for free but that future changes cost real moolah.

There was little feedback about the gamertag initially - took me an awful lot of fiddling to get it to finally accept one I input. This, coupled with the delay in initial installing, I put down to the teredo (whatever the name is) networking tunnelling not being recognised - although there was no feedback about this whatsoever.

I just wish we could turn off that awful music while it does its thing. 18GB of 95 and it seems like it has been going forever...

Yeah I muted my system volume. I thought I might do some exploring in ED while this works in the background, but between music and the installer using my GPU, I think any gaming I do today will be on my Playstation.
