Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

1) How do I take screenshots? I'm not talking about PRTSC button, but saving screenshots to disk like I can in many other games.

There's probably a fancy photo mode somewhere, but if you have the Steam overlay running, it works as usual (F12 is the default key).

By the way, anyone using a Saitek X52 pro? Neither the hotas or matching pedals are detected in FS. First game ever that fails to see the hardware... The Steam controller got picked up so that allowed me to just get in the air and fool around, but that's not a long term solution.

Some questions:

1) How do I take screenshots? I'm not talking about PRTSC button, but saving screenshots to disk like I can in many other games.
2) Is there a way to see other air traffic (I'm using live traffic) in either an overlay map or my little flight computer?
3) How do I change my own voice for ATC from female to male? My avatar is male.

1) F12 for steam, otherwise you use the MS gaming bar. Default is windows+crtl+printscr IIRC, and you can change it by opening the Gaming Bar with windows+G and going to settings->shortcuts. I just changed it to ctrl+prntscr.

2) Air traffic is on the satmap (press V). You can detach it from the main screen after opening it and move it to a second monitor if you want.

3) My ATC voice is male, so no clue. I suspect it defaults to the gender you picked for your MS gaming account?

As I continue to play this game, I realize that most of my disappointment is with the current state of Bing Maps (for my boondock neck of the woods) rather than the flight sim itself. It sure would be nice if this world updating coming soon is all new high-res satellite / aerial photography. Right now both Apple and Google are away ahead of Bing in this regards (again, in my area). Too bad I can't trick MSFS to use Google Maps :p

Turned off the photogrammetry and NYC looks much better now. Maybe stuff is missing or not 100% accurate but I can't tell. Did notice in my theme park that the roller coaster "mountains" have been replaced with buildings but not a big deal. The buildings look nice. And yeah who uses Bing maps or Bing anything? Hopefully MS will be motivated to put out some updated maps.

If anyone is interested there is a complete list of keyboard commands here:

The actual graphic they have stitched together is rather large (815x15454) - I shall chop it down for my own use.

There is a printable list of just the controls linked from an avsim forum post, I think I shouldn't give their dropbox link but the forum post is here.

The first(?) free 3rd party mod is here, it's from a Dutch group (so their site is in Dutch), but it has a link to a Dropbox where you can download three new custom airfields.

This is strange, I just did a first flight and over Ireland they drive on the left. Didn't check NI, mind.

Hmm... I'll have to look again. I was looking at local roads (around my house) rather than motorways.

In any event, I was joking. It doesn't matter a jot either way. ;)

Well it's part of the little details that matter imho. And here too it was the local roads in the village.

There is supposed to be a free set of liveries for all the aircraft ("Aviators Club") but I can't see it in the market as yet.

Indeed, the lighting and clouds are breathtaking. The scenery truly comes alive once above a certain height, around 3000ft or so.

I think the visuals from down low are the real impressive part to me. I love bush flying, and for that this new sim is a GODSEND!

I'm basically ignoring issues at ground level, since that's not the intended perspective. Looks fine from 3,000ft up.

It's clearly not a substitute for Google Maps or Google Earth, so expecting same is just nitpicking really. 🤷‍♀️

I think it really depends on the region, the cities in the Netherlands/Belgium are very accurate, hardly worse than Google Maps at all. Even the little wooden bridge over the creek near my childhood home is in. :)

I am...

It picked up both as being present but had no mappings for either. I set up my pedals first as the number of assignments was low! ;)

Stick/Throttle is an issue as they are blank but the button assignments in the pic are wrong. Best way to assign on this is to go to the feature you want to assign - e.g. elevator axis, click on the very top box and then move the joystick forwards and backwards to assign the axis. Don't forget to hit validate and when you've done what you want hit F11 to save the whole assignment profile...

Cool, thanks. I did wonder a bit at a Dutch group creating minor Polish airports, but what do I know. 🤷‍♀️

heh, I expect a group to add Eindhoven soon though. It is the second largest airfield in the Netherlands IIRC and somehow it is completely omitted whereas much small airfields are included (Teuge, Eelde and such).

I can relate to that, I'm pretty much a VFR virtual bush flyer too. I love there's so many small planes to choose from :)

Terrain quality varies greatly, but even the not-so-good areas are still so much better than anything we had previously... I played X-Plane 11 for years, dreaming of the day we would get this kind of terrain... And this is without even taking into account the lighting, the weather, etc, and all the other fantastic stuff like ATC, live weather / time / traffic 7 etc... Still 3 forum work hours ahead and I can only think about where am I going to fly today (don't tell my boss!) :)
