Guys, regarding locking the game to 30 FPS - I would actually like to do this (prefer consistent over sometimes smooth) but whenever I select the 30 frames option in the graphics settings, the game will lock the frame rate at 20... is it just me or am I missing a trick/workaround here?

Have you tried locking at 60 and setting vysnc on? That will effectively lock it to 30 for anything below 60 and above 30.

At a first stab, I'd suggest checking what your graphics drivers are set to. They can override the Vsync values or generally play havoc with them. Either set it in the driver or in the game - not both.

I tried to play with forcing it through the control panel but then reset everything to standard since that didn't seem to work. I think all options are set to "let the application decide" but I'll double check. Drivers are up-to-date by the way.

What's weird is that in all other games it works fine. Just not FS.

That's how I run it currently (because 20fps will give me eye cancer), but it doesn't work like you describe - the frames usually fluctuate between 40-60 (in less busy areas it's a rock solid 60 though) with some unpleasant stutter as a result.

Huh... What happens if you lock framerate at 31? Might be some odd rounding error behind the scenes.

@Old Duck the pics on your post make me want to jump into those clouds, they feel so bumpy and soft, like if they made of cotton candy... of course it might not end well for me.

First time I felt like jumping into clouds was when I was in the island of Tenerife, near the Las Cañadas caldera at sundown overlooking what the locals call "the sea of clouds"...It looked just like the name suggests... Fortunately I resisted the temptation. :D

Pic is taken at around 2000 meters elevation, "sea of clouds" is on the right, and the Mount Teide Volcano in the distance:

I sure miss travelling...
I've gone as close as humanly possible to jumping on clouds during HAHO jumps...(High Altitude High Opening). I much preferred them to HALO which tend to get a bit hectic near the end. Anyway, when approaching the cloud layer dangling from a parachute, I always found it difficult resisting the urge to bend my knees and lift my feet up...no idea why. Once in the cloud layer your perception goes out of the window...since there's no visual cues and no ground to make your body recognise it's upright, the inner ear takes over to make you think you're spinning...or upside down. Quite nauseating...literally. Barfing your breakfast into an oxygen mask however is not generally a great idea :)

You also hear things cocooned in the freezing grey/blackness...strange things like church bells, people talking, dogs barking, all sorts of things...no matter the height registered on the altitude meter strapped to your wrist...you begin to disbelieve it, imagining you've become hypoxic...persistently checking your oxygen gauge and tapping the alt meter. It really is quite a surreal experience... I've never looked at clouds quite the same way since :)

I can't, at least not in-game. I tried to force the framerate in the control panel, but that didn't do anything (I made sure to disable vsync in-game). Half refresh rate option vsync also didn't work, so I reverted back to default settings. Unless I'm picking the wrong .exe file in the control panel? I play via Steam and selected the .exe that can be found in the usual location within the Steam folder hierarchy.

Edit - worst case I might try Rivatuner but I haven't had the need for that since I bought my new PC; it was more useful on my laptop especially with games such as The Witcher 3 which suffered from poor frame pacing/wonky in-game vsync. Being able to run games at 60+ frames does eliminate a lot of issues though:p

I locked it to thirty from Nvidia control panel and used vsync from there. Some people were reporting ingame vsync gives stutters. It stays at thirty, mostly...

If possible would you mind posting a screenshot of your control panel settings? I shouldn't struggle with this so much but quite a few of the options I'm not familiar with as my laptop didn't have them (now playing on a 'proper' PC i.e. desktop). Would be much appreciated.

Check that 'Monitor Technology' is set to Fixed Refresh rather than G-Sync, as that will also try and do funky things with Vsync.

MFR - 30 fps
MT - Fixed Refresh
Vsync - On

Turn off Vsync in game. Set it to 30 fps anyway.

These are the only relevant settings I think?

I cant get spoiler tags to work on this, no idea why. This is where my settings are right now. Most of this should be default minus a couple things I tweaked from that posted guide earlier.

I very much doubt that. I see no reason why you cannot procgen sat data, and then use the same approach to generate a fake Earth. The issue with ED is not procgen but that non-atmo planets with no flora or fauna are inherently dull and samey after some time. You wouldn't enjoy flying over the real Mars or Moon either for weeks, it is just rather dull.
That's not pure proc gen like in ED though. I.mean Minecraft did provide interesting features. At random - there is a reason why seed exchanges are often used: Some simply dont want to roll the dice all the time.

Thanks, btw I wish I had a monitor capable of G-sync:p I'm already grateful it has HDMI and still works:p

@Iron Golem many thanks for posting those. Will check my settings now.

EDIT - weird, now it works... I'm sure I had the same settings on before... maybe I didn't exit the game properly 🤷‍♂️ thanks again everyone(y)

I enjoy the proc gen clouds based on the real time weather, not quite sure where the proc gen for them factors into the real data but I'm not going to lie, exploring these cloud worlds between layers while listening to appropriate music is the best part for me right now (Try Rush-Jacobs Ladder 😁 ).

I love exploring proc gen worlds. Daggerfall, Minecraft, NMS and Rimworld to name my favorites. I'm in the clouds more than I am exploring the earth right now. My graphics settings reflect this. I had to make some sacrifices to run volumetric clouds at ultra, but its worth it.

This in VR will be stunning.

BTW I figured that I may buy the Airbus stick only, set it up for left hand, and will operate the rest incl. Thrust from VR touch controls. Decisions-decisions. :)

Keep in mind that FS2020 doesnt respond properly to such changes (VSync/ FR limiter and such) without restarting it.
