Game Discussions Microsoft Flight Simulator

Yes, done all that, still the same issue even after download and Windows 10 updates from yesterday's Patch Tuesday which has bumped the OS Build up a small revision. I can fly Challenges and Bush Trips with no issues. It only applies to Free Flight from World Map and ALL aircraft are affected!

ZenDesk haven't allocated the ticket, no-one else seems to be complaining of it on the official forums. Must just be me and Win10 v2004 and the recent update as it was working fine prior!

:poop:🤬

That very much sucks, and I can confirm that I had no issues flying after updating the game yesterday - only did one short flight, all manual, no AP in the Robin Cadet. Will probably get a chance to try another flight or two today and will try other planes. Doesn't help you, I know, but I don't think it's a bug with the game.

I noticed near the end of the patch notes that they mention "The sensitivity curve methodology has been adapted for the different inputs". I'm not even sure what that refers to (I checked my own settings and sensitivities were exactly as they had been before), but perhaps that has done something strange in your case? Anyway, hope you get it sorted soon...

Tried a few different things with no success (but a different effect!).

Updating Win10 to 20H2 hasn't cured anything.

Tried a 'Cold and Dark' start which wasn't! ;) Engines and avionics were all on, fortunately it wasn't at full power, just idle but still no input from controls! Switching out to Options/Controls showed all peripherals and all axes moving as should on stick, throttle and pedals.

Looks like I am just stuck with Landing Challenges and Bush Flights for the foreseeable...

SOLVED!
Someone asked if the AI Co-Pilot was engaged. I didn't know as nothing tells you it is engaged!

Fired up a flight, it immediately went to full throttle so I hit CTRL-ALT-X and all controls became responsive again!

I might raise a request to have AI Co-Pilot active as a screen dialogue when you start a flight because there is nowhere that tells you it is activated... I wasted a whole day uninstalling and re-downloading, updating Windows when a simple keystroke would have cured it IF they had something on screen telling me it was active! 🤬 🤬

Played a bit the last couple of days since the patch, and after reading the patch notes that mentioned the change to the sensitivity curves had checked them in game and they didn't seem to have changed and all was well... Or so I thought, and then proceeded to think that I had lost the ability to land anywhere near the point that I wanted - and I'd been getting much better, honest! :)

Well, the curves really have been altered quite a bit (they are now smooth progressive curves, but possibly only if you go in and change them), and I'm now back at -50% sensitivity - had been up to -10% sensitivity - but with no deadzones on pitch and roll and a small deadzone on yaw (which is also on my joystick). Much better. I mean MUCH better. :)

So in case anybody is suddenly finding that flying (and in particular landing) has gone a bit strange, potentially worth a look.

A couple more pics - the game can look very nice

A short flight into Boston at dawn. Don't think I parked in the right spot. :)

Personally I think the scenery looks good (and I'm still on a 1080, so will only get better when I upgrade), the live weather issues don't really bother me as I rarely use it, and set the weather manually for what I want.

I think it's somewhere between a game and a sim, and probably struggling in both categories - not really complex enough for those who want a sim experience and not enough 'game' for those who just want a reason to fly, but it's early days, and I'm looking forward to getting my Reverb and trying it out in VR when that update arrives.

Hmmm... Not so sure about this update... :cautious:

They seemed to remove the POV hat on my throttle as a known control, so lost those bindings, but it at least accepted them when I put them back. Unfortunately had two crashes to desktop with no error, once in live pause and once just flying along in the USA fly through or whatever it's called. Scenery looks good in the main, but bridges appear to be solid - that may be my graphics card, 'only' a 1080...

I sort of dropped out in frustration after the second CTD, but will try again soon with some of the flights I've already done and see whether they still work without issue. I hope so, I've been enjoying the game, and improving my approach and landing technique, getting some really nice gentle touchdowns. But definitely concerned about the CTD's as I really hadn't been getting many of them up till now.

So, according to a Reddit post it was said on a Twitch stream, that VR will be released on Dec 23 for all headsets.

To be honest I haven't played it for weeks now, one hand in anticipation of VR (I should get my Reverb G2 around Dec 10!), on the other hand being let down by the immersion breaking lightning in broad daylight. Having said that, I miss the experience and can't wait to pick it up again.

I wonder what the performance will look like, I'm fully expecting 45 fps reprojection at best with a number of compromises (1080ti), but whatever it takes.

I'm also getting my Reverb at some point in December, and looking forward to trying it out in this (and going back to ED for some VR - I ditched my old Rift, so am currently VR-less). I have a 1080, and expect nothing it being minimum spec from what I have heard. :) At some point I will likely get a 3070 or 3080, but they are all unavailable at the moment.

Regarding the lightning, I noticed the other day that there is a lightening slider if you customize a weather preset, including live weather, so you can either get rid of it completely or set it to a low percentage if it is bothering you that much. Perhaps worth a try. I think there are still issues with the live weather so perhaps that is a workaround? I never noticed it before.

As I said in another post, I rarely use live weather, just set the weather to what I want from the flight based upon what I want to do. I did try it out the other day, and it was totally wrong. We were in the beginning of a storm, but up here in the mountains that usually translates to very high winds, and we just had that and light cloud cover. In the game it took 'storm' literally and there were overcast skies and rain (no lightening). I wonder whether that is what live weather actually is, a generalization based upon the meteorological data for the area? I doubt the game has the capacity to do more than that frankly, be able to generate the exact weather (correct cloud cover, wind, precipitation...) for any particular area on the planet, but could be wrong. :)

Got my Reverb and ready for Christmas! No pesky extended family this time to distract from flying around listening to that amazing new Tangerine Dream set.

Have there been any leaks from the beta testers?

In my experience, live weather provides much more diverse and natural weather conditions (and much more beautiful cloud formations) than hopping between the predefined weather templates. Plus it provides a welcome (for me of course) dose of unpredictability.

I've seen a bit of everything, from low fog with light rain in Egypt (there goes the city of the dead sightseeing tour...), to heavy storms in japan (was even denied VFR landing!), heavy haze and mist, sunshine after light rain with rainbows, huge thunderstorms, huge agglomerations of low clouds around mountains in oceanic islands, obscuring mountain slopes and the islands below, snow blizzads in Kamchatka, etc.

It's one of my favorite features, IMO it adds a whole other layer to the flight gameplay.

Interesting to see that even Obsidian Ant is getting this CTD every time he returns to menu:

This has been persistent for me ever since initial release - CTD on ending a flight and returning to main menu - I do hope they sort it soon.

Just out of interest, do you run the game as administrator?

When I started playing, I didn't, and had quite a few issues, but since I started running as administrator I have a remarkably stable experience, other than the two CTD's that I had after the last update (and I've since flown a few times with no issues), and perhaps half a dozen other CTD's during flight (the sound stops and a few seconds later so does the game) total. And I've been playing pretty much every day, so that's many hours of running the game with very few problems. Touch wood... :)

It makes no difference. I can run the game from the sdk launcher (which skips the intro logos) or I can click the tile or right-click the tile and run as administrator, that being the method I normally use. Whatever way I do it I always get the CTD on ending a flight and return to menu - bam!

That really sucks, sorry to hear it. I haven't really had much experience with their support (Zendesk), but if you haven't tried might be worth submitting an issue. I don't think it's as good as FD's support which has in my experience been good. Anyway, hope that they get it sorted for you. At least if OA is getting it too maybe that'll bump it up their list of priorities...

Agree, it really sucks. Sticking my dev hat on for a minute, I find it odd that it's not happening for everyone, but for those who do suffer from it - it happens every time. That sounds like a bad interaction between Windows/MSFS/Something Else Running In The Background. Now, I know OA will be running a few things in the background for his streaming & recording etc, but are you also doing the same? Have you tried killing off ALL non-essential (to make the game run) background apps?

Also, have you tried moving your Community folder out temporarily and then trying again? Does it still happen?
