Mile Wide Inch Deep - Not a Complete Experience. Not a complete game

Well since the games are sold then I don't think they matter much anymore. It's not like in a subscription model. But this can impact future sales if the word of mouth is not positive. I know I told my friends to wait for this summer before committing. But it's anecdotal too.
Thats not true. FD plans to sell expansions for planet landings etc. If they sold 500.000 licenses and only 50.000 plays the game on a regular shedule you can guess thats 50.000 exp copies sold but whats with the other 450k? From those that moved on maybe let's say 100k will buy it. So they lost a potential 350k. So you have to keep the people interested so they buy the exp packs. If that is not granted I will clearly say ED will be dead in a year from now.

Just to point out - FD clearly are aware of deficiencies in the game. We know, for instance, that missions are going to get an overhaul (see posts from Michael Brookes).
.
Admittedly, this information isn't easy to find but it is out there. I think everyone can be confident that this is not yet the game that FD wants it to be.
I read that too, thought he posted that around the 15th in the Dev blog but I can't find it anymore.. maybe it was in the Mikunn thread or somewhere else. Anyway we clearly see that improving the actual content and features like meaningful rank progression or detailed info on several factions (if you ever get ally with a Big faction you don't know the minor faction standing anymore) just aren't high on their list. They need to adress the current flaws instead of adding pointless grind goals that adds no spice to the game.

Besides that I don't know where this game goes. Just look at the recent discovered cheats/hacks that evolve in ED. Check this thread out if you want to know more -> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=108671

I for myself didn't play for a week cause I already reached my self assigned goals.

There are good arguments in this thread but nothing new. We came to the same conclusions last weekend in this thread -> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=106859

Well guys, sorry to see you go and I'm sorry that ED didn't meet your expectations. On a happier note, however, I'm having great fun in the game and I want to take this opportunity to thank you both for contributing your hard earned cash to my enjoyment. Bye then... missing you already... have to get back to the game now. *waves*.

These sort of replies are hurting the community's reputation the most.
For your record: these guys above expressed their opinion about the game they paid money for pointing out that it's incomplete the least which is hard to argue and you personally offended them right off the bat.
What can I say? Bye now, have to get back to the game. *waves*

Agreed, getting all smug and giving it the 'DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT HA HA HA HA' attitude is bad bad bad guys, please don't do that.

I am sorry Elite Dangerous did not meet your expectations. I would advise to give the game time to grow on you. I have been playing since PB and I have not once lost my love for this game. I have played other games of course but if games were places I have visited Elite would definitely be my home. Elite is a game you play with no END GAME. There is progression but nothing blocking you from doing whatever you wish in a 400 billion star galaxy, and this is why I love Elite Dangerous.

Like every other game you just have to put enough hours into it until you see nothing new (except you play games with random generated maps maybe but your tools are still limited). You will keep on playing for a while and then when you met your goals or just realize that you have seen that before and before and before.... you will quit playing.

The OP could have easily added his farewell rant to one of the other rants. Instead, he went all "Special Snowflake" for the attention.

A small number of people bought the game without researching it first. Some of them are bailing out, others are hanging around. Did anyone really expect something different to happen?

The only thing that I would have added to Joe's post was, "Can I have your stuff?"

I for myself bought this game without reasearching it first. Yeah I was sold by the trailer.. I loved Elite 2 Frontier on my Amiga so what could go wrong with a new ELITE and hey this time I can also walk around my ship - look at the trailer - .. well I was so wrong :(

And no, "Can I have your stuff?" does not even work in ED..

Yet you still hang around predicting the future:

The, "Can I have your stuff" is an old MMO forum response to exit rants. I threw it in there for the enjoyment of the other old MMO players.

Researching is a requirement on the university when you do your PHD but not when you buy a game. In a fair trade situation the advertisement should cover what is there to offer - which in this case was miselading the least.
No worries, it's going to be worse because players are willing to pay developers in advance and keep this commercially absolutely nonsense practice called "early access" running. This alone makes research a useless time waste as the developers can put anything into release which may be a success on their side financially but far from satisfactory on the buyer's side.

Ok, Driver, would you like a car? Please pay me in advance because I promise you that I'll build you one. But when I hand the keys over you'll get a chassis with a concept art book and an engine which can spin up a hair dryer but won't be able to take you far in the car.
But hey, be patient, it's still in development. In 1.1 you may have the passenger side seat installed but not the driver one. (You may have realized by then that I build something I like and don't really care about you. Becuase the car has to be something I think is perfect.)

Awaken yet?

I know that, I played MMO's for a long time, Ultima Online didn't get me (my internet connection was too expensive these days - 100h free every hour above that cost alot) but I played EverQuest, EQ2, WoW, SWToR and several others.. but still you can't just give your stuff away in ED ;)

What FD did was a test balloon.. my guess is they went to investors with the idea and got refused cause space games are dead. So they started with the kickstarter and got enough money to get back to the investors to say "hey we got money already, want to invest now?" Doing that resulted in an ultimate Deadline for ED - Christmas sale 2014. Thats not an Indie approach but it hurts their rep and other companies. I for myself don't go on the early Backer, early access waggon anymore except the game really sold me.

And the above are all guesses

I didnt read the main rant, just the heading. But in general I dont like coming here..too many whiners and malcontents. I enjoy it more when I stay away..

When I bought Elite : Dangerous I was expecting the drama, intense emotions and epic space scenes in this video:

Seriously, watch that and tell me you don't want that.

What a roller coaster of emotions and no grinding at all.

This game needs more soaring guitar solos and tear jerking cliff hangers imo

TBH, if you have been on this ride since Beta (why did you jump on so late?), you should be at least somewhat worried. I don't have a problem with the vision, though I understand that some do. FD have always said this is a one-man-in-a-ship game, not one with guilds, and user owned spaceports and all that stuff. Anyone who wants all that stuff, is going to be very disappointed.

Anyway, the vision is great, IMHO, (YMMV). But the speed of delivery is painfully slow. And the quality is patchy. Great visuals, wonderful sounds, placeholder stuff to do everywhere. At the speed new stuff is appearing, I will be dead long before they are anywhere near delivering the vision outlined in the DDA. And new stuff will only appear whilst they are getting the revenue to justify the cost of delivering it - FD are a company around to make money, and new people will only sign up if what they see is good enough for them (assuming they do any research). So I have to be worried about the medium and long term future, because we do not know how it will all pan out.

Well this is the most sane comment I've seen so far in this 'thread', and the one I most agree with. I worry that Frontier have shot themselves in the foot here, by not giving the game another six months to a year to develop. And it's not as if that is hindsight - it was being said back in Alpha/Premium Beta when speculation about release around the 30th anniversary was running rife.
.
To complain that Elite is shallow, consists of doing the same repetitive missions, the universe is empty and consists of the same coloured balls over and over again is a valid argument. However, the same criticisms have been levelled at the three previous Elite games and they were all moderately popular, well loved (sequels less so than the original) and (at least partially) convinced people to back this iteration. So why are people surprised over more of the same? Yes, the depth of the missions could be a lot greater, and I'm not too convinced that Frontier's attempts to corral players into providing their own content based on the current flawed mission system will work, but the core content of all of the Elites has been space trucking and the 'grind', with mining, bounty hunting, piracy, whatever, secondary. <Shrug!> Unfortunately, complex missions may never appear, especially as the p2p matchmaking in the game can't really guarantee that a) we are able follow targets with impunity through multiple mission stages and multiple systems without a glitch, or b) keep groups of players in the same instances (yet?).
.
So, in the absence of decent missions, what can be done? Personally, I think making Anarchies a lot more dangerous, but certain goods more lucrative, interdictions less escapable, police less capable in scanning to improve smuggling, rebalancing low level fines (should not result in a death sentence) vs. fines for murder (definitely should), separating solo online and open characters completely, and either rebalancing ship costs to bring the high end down (under the assumption that people are going to lose a lot more through ship and cargo destruction overall) would go a long way to renew flagging interest for a lot of people. Now someone's going to come in and say 'you're just after forcing pvp on people', 'don't make me play the game your way' and 'traders will just flee to solo' - well yes, I am. I've completely changed my opinion since backing the game for single player only. Heck, I'm coming dangerously close to believing that, for the game to succeed in the end, private groups need removing and everyone should be forced into open, to level the playing field, stop diluting dev effort, and get everyone back on the same page (sorry people with bad internet connections - don't mean to penalise you - but...) As the AI aren't cutting it, I think we need the danger back.
.
<Points at the original games> They were difficult, traders had a hard time in anarchies, some fights were unwinnable (without save scumming or glitching stardreamer) - can we have that back in this iteration please?

The problem is the original Elite was made a long time ago, I mean, as a kid I LOVED Space Harrier but I replayed it recently and it is just pants.
Shallow repetitive games no longer cut it I'm afraid.

Edit: I mean in general, I am not saying E : D is shallow and repetitive (it is a bit though)

Started playing Elite Dangerous on Boxing Day and have played it every night for a couple of hours everyday since and am still addicted.

Love the universe, love the ships (especially my ASP), only play solo because I'm an antisocial malcontent who hates other players but I'm happy with that.

If you don't like it.. go I certainly won't miss any of you.. just do it quietly so the rest of us who love the game don't get disturbed. KTHXBYE!!
