Mile Wide Inch Deep - Not a Complete Experience. Not a complete game

I wouldnt consider ED unfinished, but it IS a very shallow game though.
Of course, we all know fdev plans to flesh the game out the coming year or two into a much more meaty experience, but the question is if it will live that long.

I find myself playing only a few hours a week already. Im mainly looking forward to added content and updates but playing the game itself feels...tedious most of the time.

Sometimes im in the right mindset and just fly around and enjoying the experience and the sights. Occationally entering combat for a bounty.

But there is very little depth to the game right now. And from what i can tell from how the background sim is supposed to work, i doubt it will fix anything even if they sort out all its issues. Changes are to slow and abstract and the player feels very little part of it.

I can't believe how many of you look at this game through rose tinted glasses!

Don't you feel cheated or let down by FD in any way?!?

If not you must be easily pleased or just plain simple, and loving that infinite dark space to explore between them ears.

No, we simply like where FD is going with this game. You, don't? Well, bye I suppose? Why should I care about you or what you think? You are a troll, you'll be removed from the forum as many others before you

Can't someone just start a pole with 2 options.

1. Im happy with elite dangerous and it's progression so far
2. Im not happy with elite dangerous and its progression so far

Maybe we can see who is the majority?

Happy or unhappy.

But ED was released unfinished and still is unfinished

1. FD were clear on launch that there was a lot more content to add. Therefore ED on launch was never going to be considered a "finished" product in the sense of there being nothing more to do it other than bug fix.
2. If we waited for FD to finish the product, people wouldn't be here on the forums whining about the game, they'd be here whining about when the game was going to be released.
3. The game will never be finished. I doubt FD will ever get round to adding everything into the game that the playerbase wants, so it will always be "unfinished" to someone.

No he won't, this is a democracy, he is entitled to his opinion and his post, so are you.

The results will be pretty meaningless, given it is known that people with a complaint tend to be more vocal and active than those without. So really all the poll would be good for would be determining the number of people who a) complain about the game and b) visit these forums.

So not much uses.

No, I don't. The game is progressing in line with my expectations.
.
Maybe we're not simple. Maybe we just had a better idea of how this was going to work.
.
Maybe you're a spoilt brat, too used to stamping his feet and getting his own way. I don't know you - so I wouldn't like to suggest such a thing. Perhaps you'd extend other forum users the same courtesy?

What democracy are you talking about?? It's a private forum, if you don't stick to the rules, you get banned. As it happened to all the nasty trolls we had in teh last 2 months. And they behaved like him (aggressive, ad hominem, insults) so it's easy to predict and he'll be suspended soon

Really profound, really. Please keep this gems coming

I don't need to, I am the consumer, I paid for a product, it should work as described.

If I buy a car, I don't care how it was made, as long as it works as advertised.

If I buy a toaster, I don't care how it makes my toast go golden brown, as long as it does it, because it says thats what it will do.

Still this is no toaster yet even a car. Your comparison just does not work this way.

I remember watching the original Elite Dangerous pitch, the main point from Braben seemed to me to be
"we're going to make a solid foundation we can build upon in the future."
-
I got the solid foundation, it's a bit lacking in content but I expected it to be so after listening to the development diaries
FD are committed to working on adding more to that shell over the next year as originally promised
I don't feel "fooled" or "tricked" but I can see how some may if they didn't do any homework before purchasing. All I can say is ED isn't a AAA fairground ride that gets released and hammered in a month to be put aside for the next one, it's a slow burner that will gradually become a great game over time, I'm happy with that as I have plenty of other games to play whilst I wait for ED to expand.

This right here is the core point these... I don't know what to call you lot... people keep trying their damn hardest to ignore. I don't know how to make it clearer to them.

THE

GAME

WE

BOUGHT

IS

NOT

THE

GAME

WE

WERE

ADVERTISED

Therefore we are annoyed and want hatsurance from frontier on no uncertain terms (because they love using weasel words to avoid being held accountable to any commitments) that the game is just going to be what we were bloody well promised we were going to get.

I don't mind if it takes a bit longer than they first estimated, but just tell us! Don't leave us here to sit and wonder if we spent 50 quid or whatever in the hopes of getting a brilliant, modernised elite game and are going to be stuck with a half-functioning tech demo instead. If I'd known that was the case before launch I would have gladly waited until they put meat on the bones, but nope, I was told "the game is done! come and buy it!" and like a sucker I didn't do the usual level of prepurchase homework I'd do for any other early access game. Why would I? It's a full 1.0 release, it must be at the stage they said it would be now.
Then I started playing, and I loved it, for a few weeks.
Then I started seeing the bugs, and the limitations of the game architecture, and the non-functional or half-functional components, the repetitive content and so on and so forth you've heard this part before.
Then I came to the forums, hoping to alliviate some of my concerns about where exactly this ship is sailing. The answer, as far as the devs are willing to offer is "nowhere that sounds like fun, or anything too different from what's already in the game"

Now I've been searching ever since for something to prove me wrong in this, that I'm just imagining that this is probably a crappy run dev studio that hasn't made a space game since 1995 and probably doesn't even know what netcode is. So far nobody's actually managed to change my mind, just told me that I was wrong and offered nothing but the same vagaries the devs have been trying to keep us pacified with.

I goddamn love this game, and the last thing I want is to end up hating it and moving on to something else. I want to still be playing this game in 5 years. But I know for certain that won't be worth doing the way it's headed now.

But then again who knows? Many games have had extremely rocky starts and pulled a rabbit out of their hats down the line to become record breakers. I just have no reason to believe frontier can do that yet. Or if they even bought a rabbit in the first place.

The game is what it is. It might be basically mid 1980's game-play with modern graphics and a minimalist online element but it's the Elite we've got. I'm having fun playing it because i'm an old 84 fan. Of course I'd like it to be a lot better. I just don't expect it to fundamentally change.

I've played enough Online games to know that things do improve over time but I also know things don't get transformed except in response to failure. And we're not paying a sub. a lot of us have the Expansion pass. I don't think Frontier can be anticipating ED being a huge ongoing revenue stream and they have said the game is being moved towards self-financing.

I'm accepting the game is what it is. I'll be happy with whatever developments we get but I'd bet that in terms of features and dynamic galaxy and all that stuff, we have 80% of it already.

It's nice to have Elite back, it's like meeting up with an old friend and revisiting the good old days.

Well I'm glad that you like where FD is going with the game. You simply answered one of my question's with your reply.
I'm not a troll and being a public forum I am sharing my views of this product that I backed for you to enjoy, but sadly I have put my glasses away.

this is all cool and all, but for the game to be successful and generate revenue over time it needs more content and polish. pretty much all the hardcore space sim fans already know of elite and most likely spent their money on the game. how is an 80s remake going to draw in new crowd? this game in the current state is simply not on par with what would people expect to get in 2015.

I can believe it either... you post i meen!

Me neither. A bit snarky wasn't it? I haven't had my coffee yet.

I don't understand why people make posts like this though. I mean, yes Elite needs work, but saying "it has the tactics of a 1980's console game" is just a blatant lie. Defender, anyone? All MMO's are a work in progress and I've never seen or heard of one that was released fully finished with all it's features. So, it's really just a matter of opinion. You either like a game or you don't.

You still have to stick to rules.
