1 mile [international] = 63 360 inch [international, U.S.]
1 light year [traditional] = 63 197.790 93 astronomical unit

Remarkably close. o7

In fact, even closer if you use the standard definition (the distance that light travels in a vacuum in one Julian year, i.e. 365.25 days) — then 1 Ly ≈ 63,241 AU.

(Edit: Also, the ratio of light-year to parsec is remarkably close to the ratio of foot to metre. :p)

Despite all that, even as the carrier owner and commander, I need to be sitting in my T9 instead of my command post in order to transfer Tritium to my carrier. "where's the captain?" "He's out in his ship again, something's going on with that one, goes out there and just sits after every two or three carrier jumps. Keep an eye on him"

So carrier and jumps = mile wide
Sitting in T9 just to transfer fuel = inch thick

All this confusion wouldn't have happened if you used the metric system like sensible people do 😛
I am all for the metric system......... i could even drop miles for driving distance and go full on kilometers.

but unless pubs are going to start selling Steins of beer (but even then a yard beats a stein) so no... I am not going to concede this point...........

let us keep our pints of beer!.

edit... PS where are the christmas hat emojis? dont they work on the new forum software? (or am i dreaming and we never had them on here?)

How much is a pint? We order normal or big. Occasionally we get the extra size at Oktoberfest and such. Most of the time when we ask how big is big, the waiter will tell is if it's nulldrei, nullvier or nullfünf (parts of a litre). When people get really drunk they tend to throw around their telephone number (Arararagh, gimme another of zatt 02533er...)

A litre is around 1.75 pints.

wikipedia is saying that the US pint is 473ml and UK pint is 568ml

Our draft beers come either in 400ml (plastic cups usually, but also some rarer / smaller glass pints) or 500ml either plastic/glass pints

Which is the correct pint btw: US or UK?
i shall treat that question with the contempt it deserves!.
(more seriously i dont actually know the volume of a US pint without googling (it is less than 500ml tho) but the uk one is 568ml

and a yard (of ale) is (a tiny bit under) 2.5 pints (and comes in the most interesting beer glass shape i have ever seen)

edit.... pint question already answered better than i managed. i should have read whole thread 1st!.
