Mining is becoming a joke

Just imagine you are in your ASP Explorer outside the bubble and come across this system with beautiful, pristine metallic rings full of top-notch materials and you can just summon your mining ship....

And further image that some mean, nasty pirates come upon you there while you are happily mining away the rocks and you can just summon you A-rated Vulture to teach them a lesson...

It's all coming soon, folks! The future looms bright!

Except, you'll have to jump into supercruise, fly to a shipyard, "summon your ship,(spending a large portion of any potential mining profits to do so depending on distance)" jump back into supercruise, then drop back into the ring in very likely a completely different spot than you were before.

Please try harder.

Haven't been on here in a while and got caught up in the mining discussion. Here's what I want to know...first...why are ships that can mine some decent amount of ore so damned expensive? No other game makes freighters worth as much as corvettes or heavy fighters, they are generic junk ships, large and slow and not well protected, so they sell reasonably cheap, except here. Second: pirates spawning in belts, heck yes, been there seen that killed a few, since I was mining in a medium fighter...because i cant afford a ship to actually mine a good amount in yet. I guess that comment is because on almost every other game freighters carry like 1000 cargo units, not even close to that here. Well, since I'm not really playing this seriously I guess that's a mute point, but a real one. I also would like to see tractor beams bringing in the ore you break lose, its the what? 3000 plus year in game and they don't have gravity beams, waves or tractor beams for mining? Hogwash...(ok rant over, ty for your support) lol

I was mining the past week. Med sec, LRE site. Wasnt attacked at all. This was in an area aroun 20-30 kms from the site beacon

No matter where you drop in any random part of a ring or asteroid cluster, it's full of pirates. The numbers of pirates in the galaxy must be staggering. If you dare try mining with just one ton of hard RNG'd engineer commodities that can't be stored, you are wasting your time as every pirate in existence knows about and wants your massive haul.
Even running for five minutes at 500m/s doesn't seem to help at the moment. As soon as you stop, two minutes later a pirate appears.

Staggering, how about this?

Each Elite pirate has killed AT LEAST 9000 other commanders to become Elite. 5000 to become Deadly.
Maths?
Meet 20 ELITE and DEADLY pirates and know that they were responsible for onaversge 750,000 commander deaths...

Tell me again how Elit:Dangerous is a space "Sim".

Yes, this was a game mechinic introduced by the 10 year old daughter of a dev and was not removed because it would hurt her feelings.

Although, I think you will find you summon your ship at starports, not pristine metallic rings.

Some of the engineers have mining machines, maybe we will be able to buy them one day.

Ever since I first saw the automated mining units that you see in POIs I've wanted them in the game for players but I can't see how it could ever work because they'd have to be persistent. Would be cool though, you could load up say a Python with some, head off out to your newly-discovered resource rich planet, drop them off and set them up, then return to clean the barnacles off them and kill the thargoids busy sucking up your delicious metals collect your stuff.

So we can confirm that boosting away from your a warp in spot works to eliminate pirates?

I would say so. I started doing this and haven't had any problems yet.

Also, from reading a lot of the complaints and gripes people have with Engineers (which I agree with, to varying degrees), a lot of the problems could be solved with the implementation of 2 (I think) simple things.

1. Allow us to bank commodities at a station.
2. Allow us to craft the modifications we get from engineers without needing to apply them directly to the item right then and there. (Take your trade ship, craft modifications, bring them back to your main ship, then install them)

I havent had any problems with NPCs while Mining or while in supercruise and I mine osmium and all other types of metals and never get interdicted....
