mining missions in sothis are trap

Sorry, I am too far out into the black to be able to do so, I also do not have enough fuel on-board to be able to jump back, I mine for fuel as I go:)

At the moment I am at Juemo MJ-E c26-1 search for that system on your galaxy map and you will see how far away it is.

Edit, Even if I had enough fuel it would take about 40 hours playing time to get to the bubble.

still need some, but would buy like 300 more samarium just in case another samarium mining mission show up.

EDDB is another tool but it basically uses the same data as Inara does .. https://eddb.io/commodity ..
(both depend on Commanders vising the stations, both recently AND having market tracking software fitted)

There is an in-game trick that might work. With at least one ton of your target commodity (Samarium) aboard, dock any station with a commodity market and open it. Go to the sell screen but obviously don't sell the Samarium here. Just hightlight it. On the right hand side you'll see a list of stations that consume (import) and also, what you need, places that export (produce) the goodies.

You might get a clue there - and it will include carriers - but afraid it won't help you with carrier restricted docking access, tell you how many units might be available .. or even guarantee nobody else buys it in the time it takes you to get there.

You can look at it this way though, even though you're doing the run around now and even though it's a pain, it's not a waste of time. You're building local knowledge in your ship's (in game) database. Every time you dock at a station you're making it's market data accessible through the commodity filters in the galaxy map and if you honk/scan each system as you go, ideally scan the nav beacon, in futture you can check the system map, eg. to see which carriers there and on each one of those look up whether they have any restriction on docking access.

the ingame trick does not work. samarium can be only produced by mining so none of npc stations/outposts will sell it,only solution is player carrier.. problem is that inara data is highly outdated/providing fake data. spent couple hours to verify all locations that are not 10-30k away from sol, robigo+deciat sells it but robigo 150k per one samarium and deciat cannot dock to carrier. other locations have no samarium for sale.

eddb was just accurate eoungh to get like 14 more samarium. after asking in some populated system got info that not many people mine samarium those days so i can finish mission in 2days of flying 3-6k LY between same systems and bite off small chunks as nobody sells bulk.

@Scary Asp Explorer

I can't get ingame for around 14 hours but if your mission is ok until then I can sort you out.

"Pride Of Wales" is in Hip 62118 and able to fulfill that amount.

I'd be looking for 75% of what I could make on it myself, so around 71,500 per tonne.

Will setup the sell order when I get on, but FC is open to all so WIGIT (when it's gone it's gone).

Feel free to grab as much or as little as you need/want.

If carriers aren't showing up in the commodity market (trick) .. you can try Galaxy Map instead. Filter commodities, samarium, exporting .. I can't remember if it's a blue triangle or a green one for export/import but hover over the systems and you can click through all the markets in that system, you'll get the export price if there is one. Again no info on supply or docking but player owned carriers will 100% definitely show up there (as long as you've previously docked in the system and as long as the system is reasonably close).

Hopefully Adam the Weslhman above will sort you out this time but I admire your tenacity so maybe some of these tricks I hope will come in useful in future. o7

problem solved someone dropped off samarium in ceos. thanks, whoever did this, deserve great thanks and hugs.

statistics: i bought 208 samarium across numerous systems for around 9 millions. mined 16 samarium myself. mission gave 25millions so clean profit was near 16 millions. also this insane trip around multiple systems yielded 2millions from exploration data and another four millions for destroyed npcs.(getting intrdicted evry 2 jumps made me submit further interdictions and just kill them for extra profit, one pirate dropped beer x_x )so total 22 millions at end.

also i would like to buy more samarium

Glad that you found enough and sorry that I could not help.

Inara will not only show you what and where to buy, but if you check the min buy column and see a 0 price you then know it can only be obtained by mining or pirating etc. Hope this gives you and others a better idea of what can be done and what tricks to watch out for on the mission boards.

problems is with fleet carriers, many of them deny docking even while they have L landing pad. so all can do is roll tongue around my nose. there is no filter where i can check if docking is possible or not and this is major issue with eddb/inara

In inara if you click on the fleet carrier name it will take you to its page, look for these lines

PRIVATE ENTERPRISE ( PRIVATE OWNERSHIP)
STATION DISTANCE: 1,895 Ls | LANDING PAD: Large | MINOR FACTION: FleetCarrier
SERVICES: Commodity market, Contacts, Workshop, Rearm, Refuel, Repair, Fleet carrier services, Crew lounge (Search for other services)
OWNER: xxxxxx | DOCKING ACCESS: All | ALLOW NOTORIOUS: Yes | SERVICE TARIFF: 11%
MARKET UPDATE: 20 minutes ago (19 Dec 2020, 3:23pm) | STATION UPDATE: 20 minutes ago (19 Dec 2020, 3:22pm) | LOCATION UPDATE: 20 minutes ago (19 Dec 2020, 3:22pm)

This carrier will allow all to dock, some like me will not allow notorious, and some may be working with friends only so although they will show on inara but you cannot dock.

well samarium hunt is over first mission samarium collecting was pretty fast but second one was horror. spent 15millions now for 25million worth mission and got only 1.3m out of pirates, and docking restriction made me spending 6 hours to find 212 samarium.

decided to take last mining mission. 235 osmium, 40 millions reward. ofc in sothis. if anyone got it for sale even 500 LY away its no problem for me to travel. also npc pirates gets free ammo delivery into their ship hulls, thats always 100-150k more.

i did literally fly to almost all carriers around sol up to 1000LY where you can buy goods in inara or eddb and only couple allowed me to dock, approx 90% of carriers denied access, inara says at some they are docking:all but game tells that friends/squadron....

almost had rebuy screen, evaded 3 player interdictions had no cargo yet.
This is why I play in solo/private. You're in the same space as other people, you just don't have to deal with them. Also, donwload the EDMarket Connector and get familiar with EDDB, Inara, ED Star Map and EDTools as between them they will give you practically all the info you need, whatever it is you're looking for, also if you're looking to buy a new ship and want to see how much it will cost before you buy, or at least a rough estimate, then Coriolis or ED Shipyard are they places to go.

Carrier owners change access (and back again) really easily and there are a few reasons you might do that, even for five minutes. I don't think any kind of 3rd party could track that. Best bet is to confirm either with the System Map or in navigation, left panel.

In EDSM go to file - settings and you need to enter the API keys for EDSM and INARA which you have got to obtain from their websites.

I have tried to land on carriers alot for various reasons. Even when Inara says All can land, it doesn't work alot, like 50/50 in my experience. I think the All on Inara, might mean All friends of the carrier owner, or All squadron mates that the owner permits, but not All PUBLIC players. Really really annoying that. Or it is what Winterwalker says above, carrier owner can change landing access on a whim.

The problem with 3rd party tools/websites is that they are not synced real time with the game. All are at least slightly running behind the time of the game. If it changes in game then third paties are charged afterwards, not at the same time.
