LTD hotspots never worked like that.
The only time when LDT were profitable to be laser mined was in a triple overlap. A double never worked good enough for LTD
So the entire LTD rush happened because the following things happened at the same time: triple overlap found, LTD not affected by demand, public holiday made possible for LTD to reach 1.7 millions per ton.
And they made sure to nerf every single factor: they nerfed the overlaps, the introduced demand for LTD and they capped the prices. Overkill![]()
And that's the whole issue, isn't it?
Plus, it's highly inconsistent.
Although probably almost noone ever did it - I sampled Bromellite Hotspots (generic single Hotspots) for yields and abundance.... and lo & behold - unsurprisingly, Laser Mining there yielded tons of Bromellite in no time as it should.
So it's not a fundamentally "trying to go Laser Mining in an Icy Ring" issue - it's a dedicated "yield and abundance of LTDs for Laser Mining in an LTD Hotspot are by an order of magnitude too low in so-called LTD Hotspots" issue.
If they fixed that, at least it'd be an alternative to the new Platinum+Osmium Meta that has evolved - short of folks playing "lost sub" and go core-mining to chase Cores over hours in mapped or even non-mapped Hotspots.
It's a bit of a mess...
So until that is fixed, I guess I'll continue harvesting 50-60% Platinum Asteroids in generic Hotspots, where like every 5th Asteroid indeed contains solid yields - or a nice secondary ore like Osmium to go along with it.
