I don't know how it will be, but I hope that with the launch of the Odyssey DLC we will have more diverse missions, where we will have more challenges. For example, ordering the death / capture of a pirate, but knowing only which system he attacks, so that commanders create new strategies such as waiting at mining points, also giving the commander the option to kill right there or go to the settlement that o the pirate controls thus giving the possibility to even capture the pirate, where it would open the possibility for bounty hunters to take the pirate to the system he will judge or else to take body or evidence that he was killed.
I ended up using pirates as an example, but to make a more diverse system, for example, where a mineral can be found on only one planet or to go after lost ships, or connect missions where you have to kill a pirate to get the location of a missing ship or a very important artifact, at least, to diversify the missions.
That is my suggestion.
