After seeing some videos of the alpha i'm starting to have this fear too, Pk has already an improved path system, better construction and terrain tools, everything looks so easy and less time consuming to build, and even the developers are mod friendly. I think that the only thing who can carry PZ over Pk is the presence of Animals over Dinosaurs. My big dream would be the porting of all PZ animals to PK to have the ultimate Zoo sim game
Have being building and playing around with PK for the past couple of days, and do not think anyone that really loves PZ will be moving over permanently. PK is a long way to being finished, I do not remember Frontier's early demo having so many glitches etc. In any case, if someone loves Dinos then that is definitely the game for them, for those wanting to built zoos, there is only PZ for now.
There are a few things though that I have noticed that do make me wish we could have in PZ. Some of the scenery, especially the rocks are absolutely mind blowing. The detail, and way they blend together, is just fantastic. PZ attempted something similar with their concrete flex color rock set in December, but it was not too good, other than the flex color option. The detail was minimal at best and the rocks do not blend with each other well.
One thing that might not be important to many, but for me, it makes a great difference, is that PK has less of a cartoonish vibe, even though it deals with the cartoonish and fantasy concept of running a dino zoo. Funny how that worked out, as PZ should be the more realistic looking game. I do have to give Frontier tremendous credit, because the individual they have placed in charged of the animals since the few last dlc's has released some incredible quality into the game. Sadly there were too many hands involved in the base game, and some of the artists had a different direction with the animals.
The other major difference between the games, and possibly the biggest factor for me, is the performance. I have a monster of a gaming laptop and it runs PK they way it should, I filled the whole map with random scenery/buildings just to get a feel of what is what, and absolutely 0 lag. The same can not be said about PZ, and it is frustrating since I know that it is their system and game engine, so no matter how much you invest in the latest equipment, the game will continue to lag.
I do wonder once the game is finished, if the performance will be affected somehow, do not remember if it was the case with the Planet Zoo beta, but in any case it is interesting. Since Dinos are not my thing, I wish this company all the success in the world and hope that with experience and profitability they can design a modern zoo game with the same level of realism as PK.
