Mod Animals

Most of the theropod mods I saw used the same or at least similar animations to the theropods already in the game.

No, actually every newer mode uses Hendrix's animations. He made some completely new animations sets. Same goes for bats, hares, snakes, crocodiles, porcupines...etc, I would need to refresh my ZT2 memory

In any case, Hendrix was an outlier - "diamond in the rough" comes to mind. He was also active in the old ZT1 community IIRC.

It doesn't change my opinion, though. No matter how good they are mods just never fit in the same way as official content. There's always something that makes it 'obviously a mod'. I even remember the Asiatic black bear for ZT2 that was officially released as part of a mobile version reward, and SilesianTomcat released a version of it for those who missed out. Almost perfect - an official design, Zoopedia entry, and so on - except he added his own little logo ('ST') to the icon to claim it as his own which sort of spoiled it.

Oh no, I completely agree with you on "official vs. mod" animals. I am all for official ones all the way. Especially now in PZ.

I was just pointing out the animations part. It's true, no one came close to Hendrix in modding.

ZT2 original quality was overcame eventually by moders ( AD namely ), but I don't think that'll be the case with PZ. I won't be reaching out to mods until all official support is completely over. Even then I don't think I'll be getting anything besides subspecies.

but a next Planet game or Frontier building game will overhaul/upgrade their PZ building
The problem is that many people, me included, bought Pz for the animals, so if they decided to improve this building system in their future games honestly i would care only if there will be the eventual sequel of Pz. They had Planet Coaster and JP Evolution to make a better terrain tools, but nothing happened. I hope at least to see the terrain selection tool from PC, but again this isn't PC version 2, but improvements are always accepted.
I don't want to be a crybaby and i know you don't like the word "Potential" 😉, but after seeing how Pk has done his building system don't you think that the one we have in Pz is a wasted potential of the game?

The biggest issue I see are people who are interested now - can't build along with these YT videos
I think that the situation is similar to Pz. The content creators will have a huge impact to the game. Speaking of me without tutorial and video in general i would be stuck with the horrible square habitat done in Zt2.

I think we're going a little off topic lol, but i would like to see a topic about comparison between PZ and PK if this is allowed.

After seeing some videos of the alpha i'm starting to have this fear too, Pk has already an improved path system, better construction and terrain tools, everything looks so easy and less time consuming to build, and even the developers are mod friendly. I think that the only thing who can carry PZ over Pk is the presence of Animals over Dinosaurs. My big dream would be the porting of all PZ animals to PK to have the ultimate Zoo sim game 😆
Have being building and playing around with PK for the past couple of days, and do not think anyone that really loves PZ will be moving over permanently. PK is a long way to being finished, I do not remember Frontier's early demo having so many glitches etc. In any case, if someone loves Dinos then that is definitely the game for them, for those wanting to built zoos, there is only PZ for now.

There are a few things though that I have noticed that do make me wish we could have in PZ. Some of the scenery, especially the rocks are absolutely mind blowing. The detail, and way they blend together, is just fantastic. PZ attempted something similar with their concrete flex color rock set in December, but it was not too good, other than the flex color option. The detail was minimal at best and the rocks do not blend with each other well.

One thing that might not be important to many, but for me, it makes a great difference, is that PK has less of a cartoonish vibe, even though it deals with the cartoonish and fantasy concept of running a dino zoo. Funny how that worked out, as PZ should be the more realistic looking game. I do have to give Frontier tremendous credit, because the individual they have placed in charged of the animals since the few last dlc's has released some incredible quality into the game. Sadly there were too many hands involved in the base game, and some of the artists had a different direction with the animals.

The other major difference between the games, and possibly the biggest factor for me, is the performance. I have a monster of a gaming laptop and it runs PK they way it should, I filled the whole map with random scenery/buildings just to get a feel of what is what, and absolutely 0 lag. The same can not be said about PZ, and it is frustrating since I know that it is their system and game engine, so no matter how much you invest in the latest equipment, the game will continue to lag.

I do wonder once the game is finished, if the performance will be affected somehow, do not remember if it was the case with the Planet Zoo beta, but in any case it is interesting. Since Dinos are not my thing, I wish this company all the success in the world and hope that with experience and profitability they can design a modern zoo game with the same level of realism as PK.

Yeah the performance issues are also a big problem, i think that the cobra engine need a general upgrade, but i'm not a developer so if they didn't do that before the release of PZ i would like to think there is a reason behind that.

Only without any explanation. :D
Especially in a thread named "Do the devs know what we want?"
Maybe I've seen too many Cyberpunk comments on that. Calling it wasted potential is just another word for overhyped or just bought the wrong game for themselves.

No, i don't look at games like that. There will always be games that will take certain aspects of another game, read the feedback on those and use it for their game.
People compare games with other games too much imo. Devs just make different choices for their property. People just disagree with that choice.

I think because people love this game and they want it to shine, but you're right, the developers know what they're doing, and they have proved to listen our feedbacks, so i'm sure there will be improvements where possible in the future.
