Monday Madness: Diamonds are a CMDR's best friend!

Why is it that whenever people post up pic's of an MI24 in comparison with the Diamondback, they always use pic's of the later versions with the bubble canopy?

The original MI24A is much more similar to the DB.

But it's such an ugly ship.

I prefer to think of the DBX as “interesting” looking, not ugly.

I’ve not owned a DBX since back shortly after 2.0 but I’ve always loved the way the ship looks. I even love the cockpit more than the Asp’s, even the sound of it. It was just a poorly designed ship, not capable of carrying the equipment it needed to do it’s job, and fuel scooping slower than any other ship in the game. The jump range was good but many other ships did a better overall job of exploring, so the DBX sat on the sidelines for most people.

2.3 will change that though, enough for me to hangar my Asp X and switch to a DBX instead. I’ve already bought one on live again (for the first time in a year and a half) and started engineering it as best I can in preparation for 2.3. Yeah the scoop is still slow, but it will now have exceptional jump range and enough internals for proper exploration, so I’m switching ships for a spell.

Back when I did own one originally I flew her all the way out to the Heart & Soul nebula in a very roundabout trip hitting up many nebulas along the way. That was before Horizons, before engineering:

Some great shots there [up]

I adore the way the DBS dresses, functional rather than showy belying a true grace in how it moves.

But, the lack of slots make it a bit pants as an explorer/multi-use, and I hated the way the DBX flew, so they got put away.
Maybe a G5 DD DBX will be more fun?

I agree with that. With other ships it takes time to "arrange" things for a good photo. Diamondback looks cool from all angles! :)

Haven't you read the 2.3 patch notes?

ASP - 41.5 LY

https://eddp.co/u/93k3ib73
Diamondback - 46.75 LY

Couple of example builds I through together after reading that - wanted to go for 'full' builds rather than stripped down (although I have lightweight modded everything I can), and yep, a Diamondback in Beta specs easily hits 50 LY.

Interesting.

The only real difference are the second AFMU, and a massive price difference.

Diamondback with a little 'optimising', but still trying to keep to a full build rather than stripped. Jump range 50.77 LY

Asp with same 45.67 LY

I've had a play with Coriolis Beta...

This was before my time, but when the DBX was brought into the game, there was a CG hosted by the AEDC - the Alliance Elite Diplomatic Corps.
It reached the highest tier and you can still pick up a DBX with a whopping 20% discount at our home system. Wolf 406 - Hamilton Gateway.

The "Purer Water" reference in the pic is from the CG.
It was a trade CG and the only thing that was really paying was water purifiers.
So the AEDC have this backstory about Purer Water brand water purifiers being the acme of water purification.
And when I come home to Hamilton I always take a long bath in delicious clean smelling water.
It makes a real change from the stinking barely recycled taint of Federation star port water. And to celebrate a new acquisition I always take a load of Lavian Brandy for the toffs and Water Purifiers for the people.

My favorite ship so far, the DBS

I did some engineers on it this weekend.
A modest G3 low emissions powerplant and a G5 faster FSD boot sequence (btw i noticed it charge faster only for supercruise, the charging speed for jumping between two systems seems to remain the same, am I missing something ?)

Yeah this. I thought it would speed up the FSD charge, but no - its the reboot time after shut down.
Useful after Thargoid hyperdiction or getting hit with an FSD reboot special effect munitions.
But otherwise useless. Pimp for range or weight instead.
