More Module Storage

I never thought I'd end up asking for this, but alas, now I'm getting in to PvP, I'm running out of spaces to store different configurations.

This means it's actually easier to just have a separate ship for each configuration, which is means engineering core modules several times over.

My suggestion is, rather than just flat increase storage, make it a money sink.

"Rent" a Storage Hangar.
Small
, has 20 additional module slots, for 2,000,000cr / 4 weekly.
Medium, has 40 additional module slots, for 4,000,000cr / 4 weekly.
Large has 100 additional module slots, for 15,000,000cr / 4 weekly.
Extra large 250 additional module slots. For 25,000,000cr / 4 weekly.

Your additional storage is only available at the station your purchased it, and you can buy ahead of time, but you can only own 1 storage hangar per station(or at a time?), but you can upgrade and downgrade at any time, providing you have space, if downgrading.
Should your lease run out, modules are not lost, but held until you pay the backlog of rent you owe. Which is calculated based on time since it expired, and size (This is in case you stop playing for a long time). Obviously, this could be a massive bill in some cases.

In the event of station damage, everything is transferred to a nearby station.

Thoughts?

Interesting idea but I would modify it slightly
  1. Paid for "local module storage" is independent of the free module storage
  2. If there is space in the current "free module storage" the items are transferred to it (highest or lowest value first)
  3. If the modules are auto-transferred then the player is not liable for the transfer costs but is liable for any back rent
  4. Freeing up space in the "free module storage" after rent expiry will not result in release of held modules - back rent
  5. Back rent to be scaled by number of modules held.

This is a terrible system as suggested, as you have already identified, being away from the game could give players huge ingame costs.... This would simply make any potential returning player feeling like it to much work, as you will obviously have atleast module in the "paid" storage they would like to use....

And far from all players are sitting on billion of credits....

This have also come up as suggestions in the past that we "should" pay rent for any ships stored at a station, and the same arguments have been used here too, that it is a bad idea. As every such suggestions only hurts players who only play a little here and little there...

The OP's idea is not quite that bad - and their proposal is a logical compromise for those that feel too restricted by the current module storage limits.

I suppose the real question would be why is there limits to stored modules in the first place? The limit does seem rather arbitrary.

One option to offset your complaint would be to remove the rent/back-rent concept as such and replace it with a flat rate storage/retrieval fee - i.e. you pay to store or retrieve the module (scaled iaw rebuy costs).

Alternatively, keep the rent option but just remove the back-rent option and replace the back rent with a flat rate per module retrieval fee.

Why not engineer different ships. You don't need as much storage.
Look at the OP to find your explaination as to why they feel it is desirable.
