Mother ship destroyed.

Yikes, really? Sounds like some changed game logic then..

My current ship doesn't have power issues, but on the ship I took on DWE1 if I enabled the SRV Bay there wasn't enough power for the Thrusters! Despite that, I could dismiss/recall my ship (ie, the AI "cheated").

That's interesting, I'm not an explorer so won't be doing any testing, but I perhaps it's possible that FD made them 'cheat' in order to land safely more often in some recent patch...? Lucius gives more detail on the issue above.

Yeah.. well.. that was from memory because I didn't have access to the ship. Turns out my memory is pretty bad. I must have replaced the pulsies with a couple of multicannons in a drunken stupor and looking at modules my power is at 84% with everything on and weapons out.
So even less likely that power had anything to do with it ...but probably more likely that I left the iron on.

Okay so sorry, i've didn't read the whole thread yesterday evening o.o

The AI is trying to stay below 5 m/s (in one patch note, it is mentioned that yoi do not take landing damage when below 5 m/s) but often fails. The docking computer smashes quite often your ship on the ground, but never that hard, that it can be destroyed.

Maybe the destruction was a result from the ground glitch that some people have since 416.xxx nvidia drivers?

My krait blew up yesterday for no apparent reason. I was in SC about to dock at 0.06 out and fsd, thrusters, canopy etc went kaput. For the life of me, I can't work out why. I have enough cash not to worry about it for a ticket and just took the 10M rebut as I had to suicide. Nothing would reboot or repair.

The pip management the AI does makes sense to me. Pips to shields when on the ground, and pips to Engines when taking off.

But I can't see why they can't restore pips to how the Cmdr left it as soon as he/she retakes the helm?

I dont understand. I am sitting in my SRV on a planet 12600ly from home.
I am on a flat plain nowhere near mountains. The planet i am on is only .5g.
There is noone else for hundreds of light years around.
I finish picking up the minerals i need and recall the ship.
Message Mothership hull critical
Emergency ship destroyed.
No reason. No warning.
I had hundreds of systems worth of scan data on board and still had a long trip planned. Hull was at 99% when i landed - gently.
Can anyone shed light on why this might have happened. Does it mean that now while exploring we cant afford to take the risk of landing to explore or ship will just explode for no reason.

Bug...and probably the same reason why I sometimes see ships stuck, thrusters on, hammering up against the dock, and tying up the only medium pad available for me to dock at, until they finally time out.
I've always been afraid of your experience happening as well. I worry that more now with a Corvette, G5 engineered. Look on Youtube. I've seen videos of people's ships slamming the surface and blowing up right in front of them, after recalling.

I'm not usually worried about dying - even in my corvette. I always have plenty of money for rebuy.
What worries me is losing exploration data when I'm thousands of lightyears from anywhere and having my trip reset to the last station I visited which could be 20kly behind me.
I really want to be able to land on a planet that I have discovered in the middle of whoop whoop and scoot around without fear of dying when I have done everything right.
