move ships from single player to muliplayer?

Hi
Been waiting a long time for this mother of all sequels..
Anyway could we play in single player mode.... build up cash...weapons.....equip our ships ....then load this said ship with the cash we have into multiplayer mode....... my only concern otherwise is that players starting from stratch will be sitting ducks for others with greater tiers and a better start in the game...

Hopefully the starter(ish) zones will be pvp exempt.......

no.. Single player will be locked

there will be lots of measures to stop n00bs for just ending up as fodder, NPC police patrols in core (start) systems for example

and lets be honest, weapon shut down in start areas are easy to enforce and can be supported by story limitations...

As far as I can understand from what I've read, you can indeed build up your ship in singleplayer. Then you can take the same ship and go multiplayer with it.

Correct me, if I'm wrong, anybody..

Hopefully it's not that way. No problem with people having a multiplayer and a singleplayer a/c, but I'm not even massively happy about moving between groups, let alone SP & MP.

I think this is possible, you will probably just have different stats maybe.

But it's more likely the will be totally seperate.

Not as such.

2 modes:

- offline
- online

offline - you play alone, and you can update your universe from time to time to receive new events, patches and things

online - you play alone, with friends, or with everyone.

If you want to eventually play with others start online but limit the universe to just yourself. When you feel more confident you can join the all pilots group (Everyone), make friends, then if you feel like it jump back to just yourself or just your friends.

The 2 modes can't mix. (offline / online modes)

That is the best I can gather from FD's comments through the KS campaign.

I may be wrong, but I fear single player is a big mistake.

I suspect the number of players will be small compared the multiplayer game and the costs of supporting that additional disproportionately large. Having both violates the principle of simplicity; have one entity perform one task, not more.

I think it's important that you can switch between online groups. If one of my friends calls me up and asks me to hep with a difficult run into an anarchy, I don't want to have to start a new commander to do it.

I think it's not decided yet. I think I read DB saying that if worst comes to worst in terms of the possibilities for exploits involving escaping from consequences in multiplayer by going to singleplayer, it could be that multiplayer->singleplayer would be a one way street, and you could never return to multiplayer afterwards.

1 universe database / backend server and front-end instancing. If your instance has 1 player or 32 it's still a small footprint on a server, and the number of instances a server can maintain is unknown and I am sure we will find out during stress tests in Alpha / Beta.

That is a given (switching groups) but switching I believe will need to be done at a space station to avoid potential abuse.

I'm happy to hear that there will be some policing and protection of the starter areas, but I also hope that there will be some kind of policing elsewhere too. The uncharted systems can understandably be hazardous, when PvP is concerned.

I've played EVE Online since launch, seeing as it was as close to Elite I could get at the time. EVE is a great game in many ways, but I'm pretty tired of suicide gankers and such just blowing other people up with little to no repercussions.

Though, the it would seem that the players of Elite: Dangerous would be a lot more "mature" than most of the EVE players, age-wise. Hoping to see less "lulz" and "u r bbq" statements ;)

@Liqua. Probably best not mix up instancing, which can happen in a busy system, with group. It might be technically right to call both instances, but it's going to get real confusing real quick.

I am not sure what else to call it though.

When you start the game you join a "group" of players. (Friends, everyone or you play alone)

When you leave a space station you enter an instanced region of space. This instanced region can contain just you, just your group, or anyone the server puts in with you depending upon your group settings.

Ohm, no.
How HenryS already told, people could and many would cheat their money up. They could transfer the character into MP for trolling and possible destroying the economy. Aswell there is a easier economy (trading) on the offline server. Not so much competition. Of course there should be ways to avoid the situation, that most trading routes would be blocked trough some large player groups.

A way to transfer MP characters with states (ships, asset, etc.) into a single player account would be nice.

If you are playing online then there is no difference between single and multiplayer except who is in your group.

Offline single player is different, we'll look into being able to cross into the online galaxy, but that may not be possible.

It would make sense of you could spawn a new SP game by copying over your ship from MP to SP. You still have your MP ship, just a copy in SP as well.

But going from SP to MP?? That does not sit right with me one little bit.

Thanks for your comments.... Problem is ...There will always be some muppet who finda or makes a cheat....becomes invincible to all attacks (even energy bomb) ship armed to the hilt and is a total pain in the ****.....that what i hope will be avioded.

I could see going to single player to multiplayer as being huge problem as well. game saves probably won't be that hard to hack. Even if they are only one person needs to figure it out for the cat to be out of the bag. Then it doesn't matter how hard it was.
