Mr. Brookes please confirm this lore change.

This is correct, there was no official agreement, or cooperation between humanity and the Thargoids in the Elite: Dangerous history. There has been some unofficial contact though.

Michael

Hi Michael,

Can we get an official timeline for the lore, please? We all love to read and learn more about the story of Elite, but without a guide stick, it's very hard to figure out what's canon (related to the game of E: Dangerous), or not (just "fiction" for all intent and purpose).

Thank you,

Wait wait hold on 2 seconds here.

IF the OTHER ending is actually what happened

BUT we were told that when we encounter the thargoids or first re-encounter with them would determine if they are peaceful or war-like towards us

BUT we actually in history SCREWED THEM ROYALLY by giving them and EVEN WORSE VERSION OF MYCOID

Wouldn't they just be Immediately be royally cross about that and at the first human they see and make any sort of peace impossible

Remember he said "Elite Dangerous history". That doesn't mean in the previous games. This also means someone in game has had contact with a new race. Player or NPC... .

I think you may be reading a little bit more into what Michael Brooks said then he actually intended. In fact, listening to the comments from the twitch stream itself I get the feeling that the changes to the timeline might not be as sweeping as we are all afraid they could be. Whatever the case may be, it would be nice to get some official clarification.

Don't jump to conclusions about the thargoid positive ending not being canon, for example it could still have been unofficial after all thargoids are viewed as a myth for childrens bed time stories.

This - we need to know the extent of what to discard at the very least - and it needs to be easily available to people. Anyone searching online will very easily end up down the wrong (old) track

Lave Radio's episode on Tuesday night will try to cover this. Whilst I don't tend to announce any big reveals (as that's up to Frontier), I can give a bit of context.

As great as that is.. Shouldn't it be Frontier doing this? And I wonder why the first we heard of this was some random guys stream?

I think one thing you all need to keep in mind is that as far as I understood it, the assumption about which ending of the old FFE game was the "real" ending that really happened was made by the community. FD had never previously commented on which one of those endings was the true lore one.

Therefore this is not a "change of lore" as mentioned in the thread title - it's an answer to the question of which one really happened.

We (the community) assumed that a different ending was the lore one and then based a lot of other stuff around that.

Except the other conclusion in FFE was bugged and couldn't be completed, right?

I've been waiting for my life as the last starfighter...every night, I look up at the sky and wonder, "Is it my time, yet?"

Dude. You have to win at the arcade, or Centauri will never come and pick you up to fly for the Star League!

its because TIIQ are very "close" to FD after all they are one of the few more prominent player factions that have had CG's.

So, it kinda is feeling like the Thargoids will just be a 4th super power...
Please don't make the Thargoids totally boring and unengaging by doing this..
The way I see it, we're still at war with them, even though, to humanity, the war is over and won. If this is the case, and also the small bit of info dropped a while ago about we will define if we are friendly to them or not, they will be initially hostile/neutral to us as a faction (or, hopefully and possibly as semi-independent 'tribes', in following with previous Elite lore).
With this type of setup, it could get really interesting (thargoid sympathizer spy that has access to limited thargoid tech), as well as helping at the multiple war fronts in a (much more) dynamic galaxy.

It's well known throughout the galaxy that space dust was the real enemy here.*

*For those that don't know, space dust was what often stopped players from docking, as it (the space dust) was docked... yup..         space dust.

It is a digression as I am more interested in what changed from Elite to ED in terms of lore (as in what can we throw out as ED has been rebooted it seems like) but what player faction are you referring to ? TIIQ ? I don't know many large groups so I would be interested to learn more.

So is Drew correct that there is a disconnect between old and new worlds ? (ED is in effect a reboot of the Elite universe ?)

The events of "Out Of The Darkness" by T. James _are_ canon, is that correct?
