Mr. Brookes please confirm this lore change.

Greetings,

DJTruthsayer announced the other day that he had an epic lore announcement to make. He said he and some others had recently visited the Frontier Developments offices and was given information on a lore change that he could pass on via his Twitch stream as follows:

In Frontier First Encounters, there were multiple endings depending on player action. One involved the player stealing a vaccine for the mycoid virus from INRA and delivering it to the Thargoids, resulting in them rewarding you with a Thargoid ship, and meetings taking place between them and humanity's scientists. It was my understanding up until now that this was what happened as far as the Elite: Dangerous universe is concerned.

There was another ending where the player is instead given a more potent version of the mycoid virus by INRA and delivers this to the Thargoids instead of a vaccine, meaning no Thargoid ship was gifted to humanity and no exchanges of scientific data occurred. The announcement was that this is the actual history of events for Elite: Dangerous.

I've posted this in a couple threads but as yet haven't seen a thread dedicated to it, which surprises me. Perhaps I see a change like this as being quite important, more so than others.

Here is a link to the announcement (2:36).

Mr. Brookes, please confirm this, as the implications of this change govern what we can realistically hope to expect from first contact in Elite: Dangerous.

Regards,

CMDR Tobias Frost

That would be a pity. I always considered the Alliance helping the Thargoids against the INRA/Feds who probably fired first, to be canon. Would be a shame if it was not that case.

Well, I helped them, and ended up with a (possibly bugged) Thargon Scout Ship, that weighed around 190T, but had a tame Black Hole for internal storage. I would like that ship back, if possible!

There are some who consider the Alliance as traitors to humanity, so this change would remove the cause for that.

The Empire considered the Rebels traitors as well. And I could mention several RL examples of aggressive, evil states considering people doing the right thing to be traitors.

We are all gonna get blown up so many times that The Pilot's Federation insurance system will become insolvent and we will all be stuck, planet side.

Winter is coming...

Maybe that was what the 'AI upgrade' in 2.1 was all about.

Seeing which pilots could survive a Thargoid storm and which ones were going to be pet food.

So , if you were'nt shot down in the mayhem of the AI upgrade, maybe FDev are crafting that invitation to join up with the human fleet and destroy the threat to humanity once and for all......

Bill

Until the next bunch of alien slime monsters want to use us as target practise ;)

This seems.....odd, that this wouldn't be revealed by frontier and that the information comes from this kind of source, aka, twitch user, that at least I go "who?" with, but maybe that's just me, don't watch much twitch, seems like pr stunt by twitch user? seen before.

I've been waiting for my life as the last starfighter...every night, I look up at the sky and wonder, "Is it my time, yet?"

I didn't notice the other thread on this topic in the Lore subforum. I assumed it was important enough to go in the general forum.

Feel free to merge the threads.

It's not entirely clear for me if the Thargoids were already found or if the first contact is bound to happen in the future.

I also would like to know if this is true or not, I know of a few players who on hearing this have become quite alarmed at the prospect of everything they thought they knew about the games history being overwritten, at the very least, you would think this kind of thing should be announced or made clear in some way on the games release...

If this is true (and I have no reason to doubt Drew's description, which has also appeared elsewhere on Facebook, where folks that care about narrative, story and lore have been expressing their disappointment) FDev have really shot themselves in the foot this time. It also means that all the speculation around the UA mystery, the Formidine Rift, Lave Revolution and other similar mysteries/narratives that were often reliant on exploring canon lore to try to figure out the storyline of what was happening was simply wasted time and effort. It would have been nice to know that, say, two years ago. Will be interesting to see what, if anything this means for those storylines or if some of them simply die out (again, in some cases).
