Multicannons are ugly!

Yes, they are.
But I'm not talking about class 4. They look realy good and I like them a lot.

If I'm not mistaken, we have yet to see calss 3 multicannons but if they look anything like the concept art, I'll be very happy:

So yeah, you guessed it, class 1 and 2 are the ugly ones, in my opinion anyways. You might like them and I can respect that but I don't.

By the way, Tommy Vercetty called, he wants his minigun back. He lives in Vice City and the year is 1985., not 3302.

So my question is this:
Why is the design of multicannons class 1 and 2 so basic?
Look at this class 2 concep art, way better than what we have now, never made it into the game and I wonder why (unless it's comming in 2.1):

P.S.
Same goes for pulse and burst lasers. Almost no imagination and no design diversity between 1st and 2nd class whatsoever. Class 3 is ok, class 4... we'll see soon enough.

The new multi-cannon looks and works a lot like an old Bofors gun. Which I like.
The Small/Medium multi-cannon is a gattling gun like the GAU-8 on the Warthog.

If for sound reasons they decided to go with a higher rate of fire, then more barrels makes sense. Barrels heat and warp under use. Anyway I love the sound of the multi-barrels. The first time I had an all multi-build was a T9 in beta, and the sound was awesome. If the bigger multis sound different because of their different design, that would be excellent too.

That's exactly what came to mind when I saw it, a quad 40mm Bofors. :) And why not? Highly successful weapon that's still seeing use today.

Agreed although it's hard to blame them considering you almost never see your weapons anyway. I'm impressed that they've put as much work into them as they have.

I kinda like most of the weapon designs in the game. I also like how the animations looks. I don't think multi cannons are ugly, they just look very mechanic which I happen to like. :)

We dont have B2 Flying Fortress kinda ship with manned multi cannon turrets, so ugliness is just ok now..

"You mad bro ??"

I just love its design ! Not rotative, because it is more powerful with low rate of fire : like an autocanon.

I can't argue with the fact that the concept art looks better. Shame it wasn't used. Maybe it will be used for some future versions of the multicannon (engineers, new powers etc.)

When you consider how big these guns are, the lack of rotary mechanism makes sense. Could you imagine a Battleship with 16" rotary guns? The energy need to turn the gun would be insane, much less the forces involved with such a massive weight rotating at speed.

Only thing I don't like about the C2 and C1 multi's is the lack of an armoured housing. And that baby-blue plate on top of the C2 I guess.

Perhaps a better comparison would be automatic naval guns, like for example AK-130, or Mk-45. These guns in ED must be cal. 100 mm - or (much?) more.

As a side note, it wouldn't be bad if we can actually get the caliber of the guns in the description.

I'm kinda okay with the way Multicannons look.

Their SFX though... not much of a Multicannon, neither is their rate of fire.

lets keep the size 1 and 2 as it is, and implement that artwork as a new size 1 or 2 with other trades than the original MC. less fire speed, higher penetration..

Quite correct... However:

Is nothing new at all:

Seems certain designs met their desired function quite some time ago. No need to reinvent the wheel just because it's the future.

Bear in mind that the Avenger is "puny" 30 mm cal, guns we are dealing with in ED are much, much larger. Again, I think that we should be referring to automatic naval guns rather than the gatlings. These twin babies are cal. 130 mm:
