Multicrew, Wings, Squadrons, and alt accounts

I've taken advantage of the anniversary offer to get two alt accounts (both with Horizons). My main CMDR is heading out for Colonia at the moment, the two alts are back in the Bubble (in their original Sidewinders). Eventually I will relocate one to Colonia.

I've got all 3 up and running on my PC in multicrew, albeit with some jerkiness and the occasional random multicrew disconnect. Good to see those empty seats on my bridge finally occupied, and the two extra power management pips might be handy when I finally have to fight to unlock Mel Brandon (though they might not give me enough of an advantage to offset the jerkiness issue). I'll have to try downgrading the graphics settings on the alts (I'm already muting the audio and switching off multicrew comms). I only have one computer, and it's not exactly high-end.

I'm not sure how much of the following is correct, so if someone knows this stuff better than me, please correct this:

AFAIK, if I score a kill in combat with the alts hooked up in multicrew, I still get the same cash as I would if I'd made the kill on my own, and each of them would also get the same amount if they were the same level as me (but because they're both Harmless at the moment, they will actually get less).

If I score a kill in combat with the alts in a wing instead, I still get the same cash as I would if I'd made the kill on my own, and each of them would also get the same amount (despite their level). But I don't get the extra pips.

If I have an active NPC SLF copilot, my cash is reduced slightly, and my combat experience is halved. But my alts (in either multicrew or wing) will be unaffected by these reductions.

If I take non-combat wing missions winged-up with my alts, they get whatever I get. But not in multicrew. For wing combat missions, if one of them is winged-up and in the same location as me (obviously not possible at the moment) and takes missions to kill the same bad guys as I'm shooting, my kills will count towards my alt's mission targets as well as my own, and both of us (plus the other winged-up alt who is elsewhere and didn't take the missions) will get the standard payouts from both missions (and the combat experience from those).

Do wingmate payments work over interstellar distances, as multicrew does? Presumably the wingmate needs to be logged in and winged up when combat vouchers are cashed in, but not during the actual combat? If so, that could help my jerkiness problem, I could start up the alts at the end of the mission.

AFAIK, there are no comparable benefits from using squadrons. I cannot currently see any advantage of having them in my squadron, and there might be an adverse effect on game performance due to squadron comms (?).

I'm currently double-Elite in Exploration and Trade, but only Novice in Combat. In the Bubble, I need to be Competent to unlock Broo Tarquin: in Colonia, I need to be Expert to unlock Petra Olmanova. I also need to train up a new NPC copilot (lost my Expert one recently), and I know that this will halve my progress. But apparently multicrew/winging with alt accounts will not?

No, not unless the wing members landed at least one hit on the target each.

If they land hits as above, and you take advantage of the excellent and not at all exploit-y wing mission sharing mechanics, yes, but that seems to be moot given your general endeavour with alts.

Wingmates don't share your bounty vouchers. They get their own, as long as they participated in the kill (see above).

OK, thanks for that. Looks like I'll be multicrewing for combat (if the PC is up to it), and winging for wing cargo missions.

How do you multi crew with your alt account Cmdr?

I’m doing DW2 with my alt whilst my main account Cmdr is still in the bubble but once they’re both in the bubble I’d love to have them both on the bridge with me.

Have I got completely the wrong end of the stick or is that possible. I thought I’d read you needed to run them separately.

Yes, it is possible.

To use two accounts on the same PC, you need to use a different email address to set up a new Frontier account, then find your launcher EDLaunch.exe and make a copy of it. When you start the copy, use your new email address and Frontier account password, you don't actually need to download anything.

The procedure for running two CMDR's simultaneously is the same, except that rather than just copying the launcher, you need to copy everything in the folder where the launcher resides (about 40gb overall), a backup of the entire folder. This is so that both running versions of ED can access files without interfering with each other. You also have to close the launcher after launching each version. You can then alt-tab between them.

You'll need to set up your alts as your "friends", create your own Private Group, and make them members. You can then send multicrew invitations to them from your comms panel.

Thanks for the info Nadreck.

I play in VR so the extra processing may make it unusable for me, especially when I just like the idea of my two Cmdrs flying together.
