It probably was intentional - You respawn at your own ship to stop the following.....

P2 gets in P1's ship
P1 flies P2 1000LY and they depart the ship
P1 has to log off
(Currently) P2 will return to their own ship (even if they had to wait to die, they would return to their own ship)

(Option 2) P2 is stuck on a Planet 1000LY out, with no ship to fly home. Apex won't go out that far. All P2 can do is wait to die, where they will respawn at their current location - a never ending cycle!
So giving player a choice where to respaw is beyond FDev game designer imagination that is what you are saying? ;)

Ain't there some team option that could impact spawn mechanism?'
Like :
if you are teamed - you respawn in your last embarked team buddy ship
you are not teamed - you respawn in your last ship.

I don't think so (maybe it isn't working properly?), but that is how it should work!

All we need is a choice; Where would you like to respawn?

  • The ship of any team mate that supports multicrew
  • Nearest station or port
  • My own ship

This also needs to happen when you crash and relog back in in which case one should be able to select:

- On the ground, nearest to my last location
Perfect solution.
And if you were wanted and your bounty got claimed, go to jail.

It's becoming clear to me, at least, that the problem with elite is lack of resources.
They must have a skeleton team running it right now.

It took two years for odyssey? Yet, there are serious flaws in the design.
And the overall amount of content is fairly underwhelming.

Obviously this is more than the Team could handle. So I am not blaming developers.
Reviews on Glassdoor say that the Pay at Frontier doesn't meet the living requirements of the area and there is a lot of outsourcing going on.
Kind of makes me think that there is not a whole lot of dedicated people working on the project.

The buck stops with management and Braben in this case.

The restart near your teammates should happen if u re in a team with me, if u leave team, back to main menu and reload into your old position. As NoMansSky

Or here's an idea, let's not artificially make it even harder and a worse experience to try and play multiplayer. How about using the tools of the game and let people play with others without hoops to jump through.

If you plan journey that will take multiple days, how about the option to pick up where they left off? Why this arbitrarily "until they log off" crap. It's almost as if a multiplayer game is allergic to being multiplayer friendly.

If this isn't changed as part of the "teams sharing missions" week then I'll be massively disappointed. It's anti fun, simple as that.

The player should be given a choice:

  • Respawn at last station
  • Respawn in previous ship location (if available; your own ship or the last ship you disembarked from, if either is still in the instance)
  • Respawn in orbit (your ship or team ship)
And the ability to revive a team mate has to be there too. This has to be part of the loop, allowing us to continue seamlessly if one of us falls but we recover.
Buy this man a beer... it's that easy of a fix you should get these choices if you die or are disconnected and re-join the same wing you were in.

Chill, I didn't design it!

No harm done, o7
They really need to rethink this though, because at it stand, any slight disturbance in the force.. I mean networking can seriously set back a multiplayer on foot mission. And we know how stable the P2P connections in Elite can be.

Not just MP, same can happen SP too.
I flew down to do a surface mission, left my ship just to the side of the base... things didn't go to plan and, I became unconscious :p and imprissoned.

A brief teleport approx 100 light years (via black screen) and I found myself free.
Except, I had to book an Apex shuttle, but it couldn't make it back to my ship without a few stop-offs and rebooking of flights...
By which time, I couldn't be bothered anymore re-attempting the mission, longest re-spawn, ever!.

And they don't want to waste my time walking through my ship, but its fine making me walk through the docking area into the station to book another apex, rinse repeat, so I can finally get back to my ship. Why didn't they impound it, with me? Anyway... now that's off my chest :D

Yeah, according to FD, regardless of if your ship is clean or dirty it's supposed to follow you to the detention center.
Unfortunately that, too, seems to not be working as designed at the moment.

Isn't that the subtitle for Elite: Dangerous?
For some of the game, certainly, but not all of it.
I don't think FD are incompetent, far from it. I just think that they.... how do I put it... have a vision for a video game that just isn't a very fun "game" at times.

Which is funny, because it worked just fine in the alpha, when the space jail was just a generic station. I'm starting to think it doesn't work, because they don't have an Inter Astra.

Maybe. I just don't know.
Hopefully they'll get it figured out soon.
