Multiple accounts - exploits

I don't think buying a second+ copy of the game is an exploit. Besides, what could do about it?

Lock down player fund transfers? I think most where surprised that they allowed it in the first place. Of course buying an alt account is fine, even making money on separate accounts.

THey could go back to the dreaded rumour that microsoft started that User verification of personal account details would be required for all users and it would lock it to Personal ID numbers issued by goverments... This would have locked every game to single user and you would not be allowed to register another version with the same goverment issued ID number...
The game allready shows that its tracking PC hardware with the NOT registered to this hardware error on PC accounts as it then requires you to log out and then login again to reregister the ID of the PC hardware...
This Idea was rejected in most first world countries other countries adopted a User ID number that is issued to every living person in the country...
These countries require this ID to play games on Consoles in there country... it could move to PC... With out a new verified ID number you could not make duplicate accounte...
Two countries to adopt this were Germany and Korea...

No need for a laptop. You can do that on a PC with multiple windows accounts. I have all my 3 ED accounts on different Windows accounts.

I can log into my other ED account BUT have to log out of my ED primary account first when using one computer.

Are you saying you have 2 screens using 1 computer and run 2 Windows accounts simultaneously? Therefore having both Cmdrs interacting with each at the same time?
With 2 computers and 2 accounts it makes real time interaction possible, with all aspects of the game. When a Carrier is involved it opens up even more.

I have one computer and run ED on 2 windows account at the same time on one screen. I just switch between both windows accounts. The only thing I have todo, before getting into the second account is to end the launcher in the first. AFAIK, there is an easier way in copy the launcher and give it another name. You have to check google or the forum for that. I did not bother because I only used both account simultaneously for lore reason. e.g. To have my SLF fighter, which I am fond of, sitting next to me. Not for money purposes.;)

Yep, start your first cmdr then close the launcher. Start second launcher with alt account. Two instances of elite running. Now some use account switchers or other voodoo, I just have 2 installs. You're up and running and the cmdr's can interact. Need a pretty good machine I might add. YMMV

edit; spelling

Ah I see, that sounds like worth having a play with!

Disadvantage is that you have to update all accounts. i.e. I have to update 3 times. Which does not bother me.

My PC is a I7-9700K 3.6Ghz, 32GB RAM, nVidia 1070, 1 TB nvme. Its fast enough for that.

Multiboxing in Elite is extremely tedious...

I've tested this... and my brain hurts just thinking about it. And therefore I do not view multiboxing as an exploit.... here is why:

Combat is out of the question...

Trading only makes sense if you park your alt(s) in the starport where you sell and then concentrate on flying just one CMDR.

Rare Trading is probably the only activity where you really benefit, regarding time spent, at least when it comes to the "fill up" part. Then comes the travel... sigh (if you want your alt(s) to benefit from the dividends).

Wing Missions... You need tons of Luck in order to have your alt(s) pick up the same mission as your main... not worth the effort, tbh.

Mining only makes sense if you want to speed up a single CMDR to fill up faster, and you have to stick to Laser Mining, otherwise it is out of the question. But still takes a lot of time to fiddle with your alt(s) to move to the asteroid, mine, make sure the CMDR you boost have limpets running the whole time etc, etc... then comes the travel... for dividends... sigh

Nothing beats a wing with other people!!! For all of the above, get some friends and wing up. So much more fun as well.

Wasn't an issue when I used a laptop & ps4 account. Just stick ADC/SCA on the ships, then it's fine flying both. It allowed me to load 1560 tonnes of cargo on each run. Dual accounts are also great for stacking cargo missions, have been picking up 5 mill missions on both accounts, fly them to my carrier, jump to the next system, SCA them to the port. No hassle at all. It essentially doubles your trade capability.

You update once, then you use robocopy to copy the new files to your "installs". Robocopy is a very nice tool that comes with Windows since Win7. The /MIR command makes sure that the copying of files only updates / copy new files.

It is a simple bat-file.... looks like this... in this example, I have updated the game on my main computer, then I run a bat-file doing this:

robocopy D:\Games\Frontier\EDLaunch X:\_EDLaunch /MIR /MT:16

In this case X:\ is a place on my fileserver. I then use another robocopy script on my second computer to update it.... it looks like this:

robocopy X:\_EDLaunch D:\Games\Frontier\EDLaunch /MIR /MT:16

Way faster than updating both machines via FD servers, and it also doesn't hammer them more than once.

Yeah... I mean... if you don't find it tedious, all power to you! :)

EDIT:

I still don't consider it an exploit though. If people have the multitasking skills to do things, I think they deserve the benefits they may reap.

Thanks for the tip. I look into it.

There are all kinds of risks with multiboxing as well...

My first trip to Colonia was when Jaques Station had been found and was in need of repairs as well as mined materials. I decided to try and multibox 3 of my alts there, using 3 computers, while watching season 3 or 4 of GoT... My main made it there, one of the others died at a star of overheating because I had forgotten to check, and the third, that also made it there, but with severe damage on internals because it almost died at a star as well...

Don't suppose there's any communication from FDev on what is actually considered an exploit in terms of multiple accounts?
