Murder hobos vs CG piracy

Those people were leaving their ships on the surface while out in their SRV in open. That is just asking for a Darwin award. Survivng in open is easy you just have to not make stupid mistakes.

Stupid mistakes like entering any station with someone in a Cobra and Reverb Cascade mines. No way to avoid. Thrusters and Shield Gen offline, your only legal option is LITERALLY the 15s timer - and the dude had the NERVE to be upset for me using it!

Er, or avoid it until the station takes care of it?

How do you avoid it if you only know it's happening once you're in and it's too late?

If they have mined the slot you will be able to see them and if you are following them in it's best to have looked at their weapons loadout and it's safe to assume that mines on a cobra will be modded for reverb casscade.

Now you're being unreasonable :)

Wouldn't it be nice to have a configurable alert system, so that when you are off in the boonies and a new contact appears, a blooming great siren goes off until manually silenced when you have assessed the threat, instead of the subtle click of the message window? I try to get to new discoveries as soon as possible, in Open, and there's a 50% chance that a new contact is looking to blow up my lightly armed Exploraconda.

Hmm. If you want to get somewhere quickly you have to compromise on defences. How did the hypothetical ganker arrive before you?

I'm exploring in a fully equipped Corvette btw. Takes ages to get anywhere but when I arrive I'm ready for anything currently in the game.

I'm a bit of a casual so my 'as soon as possible' is several hours after the discovery, usually about the time it takes a serious FdL driver to make 30+ jumps over to the Pleiades or Synuefe clusters, for example

I think Genar-Hofoen is doing the same now after having been turned to confetti in a longer-legged ship once too often...

Er, or avoid it until the station takes care of it?

Anarchy stations don't give a damn, and a fast Cobra can come to me even if I don't enter. The next time I stopped before entering and checked if the Cobra was there; I didn't enter, instead he got out and placed mines all over myself as a T9 is not nimble enough to get out of the way.

This is a cheap trick without an efficient counter if you, say, happen to belong to the "wrong" Powerplay faction or are entering an Anarchy station. It's just like the shieldless Eagle suiciding on purpose into you - Combat logging all the way against this kind of... let's say, "unsportmanly opponent" (thanks forum censorship).

A shady version of the Pilots federation with ranks for Piracy, Smuggling and Assassinations would be cool. Highest rank could show when wanted.

^^^
Absolutely! More bounties on criminals, like the Galaxy's Most Wanted list but more rewards for our 'endevours' (make more lucrative?). Maybe a couple of modules and weapons (high speed collector limpets and devices to hold ships still once thrusters are out?) that are unlocked the higher your criminal rank. Just bouncing around ideas......

Something like that would be great (see suggestions in my sig).

Another idea; when wanted, your rank in the relevant crime would show next to your wanted status, then other players would know what you are wanted for as well as how much of a career criminal you are.

Edit: like this:

....it would be great making a criminal career and being recognised for it in ED. Higher the risk, the higher the rewards.

AND....

.....how is this for an idea for bounty hunters and enforcers; the more criminals, pirates, smugglers and assassins they kill, they work themselves on to a criminal underground black list - an inverse of the top bounty criminals - that only criminals have access too. The circle of life lol 😁

It's easy to avoid a gank in an unarmed trade ship, most are just to lazy to learn evasion tactics and fly straight down the shipping lane because their motivation is credits per hour and don't like having to spend a little bit of extra time taking a safer but less direct route that takes a bit longer.

I agree, it is perfectly possible to avoid, but how do you learn being destroyed to learn?
Who starts in game and doesn't know anything about it yet .

It's a important lesson that someone decides to teach you because you're careless or noob sorry but I don't buy.

PVP-oriented games has clear rules that work the same for all and is not the case in ED.
Who destroys for pleasure is rewarded with impunity.
