You bought the game for reasons, presumably...

Sour grapes. Either Frontier would have to officially support cross-saves or not. Currently at least they do not and never have. Technically speaking, the bug was apparently used as an exploit by some.

I got a Horizon Chase Turbo cartridge for my Switches and I already own the game on Steam. It's par for the course.

Maybe in 20 years you can run the game in an emulator and not feel bad about it. Good luck.

Although I understand Frontier does not support Commander Save Transfers between platforms and that is Frontier's Policy, The "Frontier Store" and those things you spend real hard earned cash on, should be available to you regardless of the platform you play on. If you own a ship kit or paints on Xbox, then contact Frontier and have your commander assets moved to PC (effectively abandoning your Xbox account), Frontier should make the store purchased assets available to you on your new PC commander account.

To me, purchasing assets with real cash from some game store should not be limited to the platform you play on, but tied to the game sold to you and if you choose to move to another platform, you should have access to those assets if you purchase the game again for that platform. I think Fortnite does this and several games on Steam support both Linux and PC, with full access to the save games as well as the assets for those games. If memory serves, I think Egosoft's X-Series does this for Linux and PC.

I fully realize that many games are not now or yet capable of cross-platform account and asset usage and only a few are, but this will eventually change.

I also know this does not help the OP now and his being upset may have more to do with Frontier store assets being unavailable to him now rather than having a platform specific commander account transffered, but that is just my personal opinion.

In any event, this information should serve both to educate Elite users on the current limitations of platform transfers as well as inform Frontier of the need to make the Frontier Store Assets purchased by Elite account holders available to them regardless of which platform they choose to pay on. The Frontier Store Assets should be platform independent.

It's really not. Accountability is holding them to deliver something that they have committed to deliver.

From what you posted (and the linked piece) this appears to be a random Commander on reddit who ran across a bug which had the effect of wholly or partially linking his PC and XBox accounts. That's not a facility that FDev have ever offered and have frequently stated quite explicitly is not available. It is at best a wholly unsupported feature and at worst, simply a glitch related to the game's back-end.

You can ask them to make that functionality available for sure, it's a reasonable enough request. You can't hold them to account for not delivering a service which they have never advertised that they deliver to begin with and never said they would though. Just from a position of logic. It would be like holding me to account for not giving you fifty quid. Did I ever say I was going to? Nope. No accountability is therefore in play.

Just a theory for the OP, but have you tried to load Elite by using your Xbox account on Windows 10?

Elite Dangerous isnt a play anywhere title.

That's my silver lining, I'm hopeful that Fdev is simply in the middle making it a Play Anywhere title, and I just need to hold out a little longer. I don't see any indication of it, but hopefully as Paul said Someone with Fdev will see the impact a change like this could have.

This could be due to PC's actually running XBox accounts. IMO whe he logged in on the PC using the same credentials it just loaded the saved game. This would not work PC to Xbox tho!

I just found my old Xbox Elite game account (fortunately, I did not have Frontier transfer the assets) and was able to access it and can use it now on my Windows 10 PC.

Frontier never listens to my complaints either. I HATE interdictions and Frontier just tells me that the game is working as intended. I will always complain and Frontier will always say working as intended. Never ending cycle.

Yes. Xbox runs native on Windows 10 via a Microsoft Account and Microsoft Store. Of course, you need to have the "settings" in Windows 10 correct and a Microsoft Account using the same credential set as the xbox account. Most people disable Xbox in Windows 10 and use a "local account" as opposed to letting Windows 10 automatically login to the Microsoft Account. I know I do. I use a local account on Windows 10, but when I first installed Windows 10, I let it login to the Microsoft account one time, so it has my digital licenses from my Xbox accout, Office Products and the Windows 10 digital license in case I need to reinstall these things. Then I switch to a "local machine" account.

I don't know how much of this is needed to make Xbox run on a PC properly, but the Microsoft account and Microsoft Store need to store those licenses for Xbox games and if they are not there, corrupted or not updated occasionally, or you change PC hardware, then you might have to reinstall Xbox games while logged into the Microsoft account to get them to work properly again.

Although I use the Frontier Store bought copy of my Elite game, I installed it over the top of the Steam version so that Steam keeps it updated. I then run Elite manually using the EDLauncher.exe so that I do not have to load Steam everytime I play. I have not played my Xbox version in some five years, but is is available and does run through the Xbox app, although I had to reinstall it when I updated my hardware as well as login to the Microsoft store to get it reinstalled.

In conclusion,, Frontier stores your game state so uninstalling the xbox version and reinstalling it may be a solution for you, but it will not effect your game state, ships, store bought skins or credits. I went through all of this again just recently to get the FS2020 Flight Simulator to install and work and it does run through the xbox app, connect to my Microsoft account and store for licensing.
