My first guardian blueprint

Oh man, I'm finally getting back to the Bubble soon and am going to attempt to get some of the blueprints when I do (been out for quite awhile). So will be something new and different for me, but good to hear some of the hints and stuff in this thread. Right now it sounds quite confusing, but watched a good video (or at least I think it was good) and reading the replies on here, so hopefully when I do get back, I'm not totally overwhelmed by it.

Now maybe I need to use a ship with a bigger cargo hold since my go to AspX I was planning to use only has 34t cargo space...

You don't need any cargo room, everything is materials other than the relic used after the pylon is charged, and your srv can hold 2 of those.

Just came back as well from Colonia, with the sole purpose of getting the fsd booster. Took a few hours to get through it, another half hour or so to get the shock mounts, and find a tech broker. Not much for combat so the sentinels were a bit of a pain (fun pain) , but it all went well in the end. Might hang around and get some more stuff before heading back out. Second go around should be a fair bit quicker.

Had point defense on my Aspx, and I know it saved my butt, wouldn't go back for more without it.

1. If anyone says 1-2 hours tops to complete this puzzle, they've done these before. For me, being the first time setting foot in ruins like this it was more like 3-4 hours.

3-4 hrs to complete the puzzle? o_O? You mentioned YT guides so I assume you seen those and yet you needed 3-4 hrs to do it? I mean unlocking the BP, not the mat gathering, right? That's 15 minutes, half an hour tops. I know as I did my first Guardian unlock not so long ago. Watched CMDR Exigious' guide, went there and about 20 minutes later I had the BP. No prior experience.

I can agree on longer times when you go totally blind and try to figure everything by yourself.

2. I arrived at this site when it was pitch black. Not good.
Any planetary hunting while on the dark side suffers from that. Not Guardian specific.

3. First time used a conda. Too big to park next to the ruins, I had to go back and get my DBX.
And that is totally not true. When I arrived at my site I saw Anaconda parked in the middle of the ruins. Parked, as the SRV lights under were lit and SRV was driving around the place. I tried to park my Krait which turned out impossible, first spot I found was 5 km away (!).

Anyway, getting smaller ship for the unlock is preferable.

4. Install PDT on the DBX to deal with sentinel missiles. This is a lifesaver if you're not used to srv combat like me.
Or you can dismiss your ship/park far far away. Then sentinel missiles won't bother you.

5. There are 6 pylons to activate. The time consuming part for me was finding their hiding spots.
Again, following some guide can really save you the trouble. Unless you really want to try it by yourself.

6. Getting around the ruins is annoying. I needed time to orient myself to best routes to each of the pylons and once I got familiar with that there is plenty of time on the countdown clock.
Yeah, countdown is annoying - introduces unnecessary stress to the whole engagement. Not only you need to get familiar with the site, fight off sentinels, you need to pay attention to the timer. No wonder that YT/reddit/forum guides are in such regard.

7. I installed 3 SRVs for contingency, in case of destruction, whatever, and I'm glad I did. The biggest issue is running out of ammo. Be ready to synth.
Haven't faced the problem, even tho I forgot the turret switch button while being under fire and I don't use SRV at all so I totally suck at driving that thing. Yet one vehicle was enough, tho ammo part is true.

8. Make sure you gather enough of the mats you need for the specific blueprint your going for. The FSD Booster needs 21 power cells and 21 tech components from the site itself.
And be prepared for abundance of cells and total lack of components due to RNG. While cells drop right and left you may get 3 times as required by the time you get half of components. At least it was my experience.

So is guardian tech an alternative to engineering then. For example is a Guard FSD better or worse than a grade 5 engineered one? Or the same?

Completely different in the case of the FSD and the shied booster (I haven't unlocked or even researched any of the others).

The Engineering FSD changes some properties of your FSD, the Guardian booster simply adds a fixed absolute jump range extension on the top of whatever you currently have and consumes one internal slot (and quite a bit of power) in return.

The shield Engineering again chages some properties of your shield generator, the regular shield boosters take up utility slots, add a percentage and can be engineered to (again) change the overall properties. The Guardian shield booster(s) take up internal slots, use power and add a fixed absolute shield strength value.

Or you can dismiss your ship/park far far away. Then sentinel missiles won't bother you.

OP was talking about how the ship PD will shoot down missiles aimed at your SRV for you. Hence you want your ship close by to help you out. A lot easier to do the sites when the missiles aren't rolling you over.

Since my OP I went back for another BP from a different planet. This structure was not shrouded in misty darkness and I could see stuff in the distance without using the vanity cam. The pylon layout was not the same either. This time it took me about 15 minutes not counting the mat gathering. Which reminds me: the pylon layout of the first site I visited was different from the vid I watched. The YT vids gave me a general idea of what to expect and the process, but once I got to the site I had to learn the specifics. My 3-4 hour estimate may have low-balled my actual time.

My hat's off to CMDRs that go to the structures blind and want to figure everything out on their own.

And be prepared for abundance of cells and total lack of components due to RNG. While cells drop right and left you may get 3 times as required by the time you get half of components. At least it was my experience.

After going to a couple of these sites I wouldn't blame RNG, they just give less of the tech components. Relog, rinse, repeat.

On a related note, there are Guardian Tech brokers in Colonia but seemingly no way to get 'commodities' like Heatsink Interlink.

Am I missing something, or is FDev missing the point of the word 'commodity'?

Guardian module reinforcements only has 10% more integrity while adding some power draw, which isn't a particularly good trade-off, imho. The resistance to Thargoid interference is either bugged and not working or it is next to imperceptible.

I think it's supposed to -reduce- the amount of HUD interference.

Like, how the hug goes all wonkly and messed up when you get hit by the lightning attack for instance.

There is still some interference, but it's signifanctly less.

After a bit of burn out, (I'd played Elite solidly since the beta) I took a couple of months off, but have now returned and started with the Guardian Sites

All I can say is great fun - yep, totally frustrating controlling the SRV round the ruins at times, but overall, the addition to SRV gameplay has been fantastic, and working with other commanders has been great.

I still find trying to work out what upgrades and engineering for optimal performance on various modules/ ships a headache, but happy to have the guardian ones as an option now.

I actually redid my SRV keybinds so that I could drive around properly whilst in turret view mode. It's a rewarding/satisfying learning curve!

Fun fact about the missiles: When you hide under an overpass, they are not going to hit you. It also makes a nice place to hide behind to evade other sentinel fire.

I used that trick a lot.

Hilarious fact about the missiles: At Col 173 Sector QU-O d6-25, Sentinels plays copy-cat and hide also under that central structure. So when they fire missiles above, the destruct themselves. Spitted out my coffee. :D

Pro tip: You can park a small ship (AspX in my case, with 2 PDs :p ) very close to any (?) structure.
If it says terrain is not suitable and You spotted a blue dot for a sec but cannnot land there, dont move away but try yaw there. ;)

Tip No. 2 : When under Sentinels fire - full shields and HOLD break.

Tip No.3 : There is a way (REDACTED) SRV to... (REDACTED) ... to save time :x

Tip No. 4: You can (try to) punch items to lift them from the ground and scoop them with the ship or with limpets

Tip No. 5: Sentinels will not fire at You when Your SRV is under the ship

This is the layout of Synuefe NL-N C23-4 b3

for module blueprints.

As I was leaving, another commander arrived (good timing) in her Anaconda, which she parked just off screen to the right in that image. You can see the headlights from her ship on the right, so it is possible to park an Annie close to the site.

I parked just outside with my DBX. The Point Defence worked overtime on the Guardian missiles.

That's a great screenshot of the pylon layout. This matches the 2nd site I visited. The 1st module blueprint site had 2 pylons up next to the alter.

Havent noticed any difference, even comparing vids side by side, looks exactly the same to me.
