My Krait mini review (about 8 hours playtime) vs Python

They are basically the same ship! Same landing pad size.

Pro python:
- more cargo capacity
- better side visibility

Pro Krait:
- looks - exterior AND interior
- manoeuvrability (pitch)
- slight speed advantage
- better top/down visibility
- better gun placement (all lasers looks like flying an X-Wing!)
- in my opinion better fuel economy. Could be just a feeling because my Krait build currently actually has some empty slots...
- Excellent lateral thrusters. I don't remember Python's laterals being this good.

Mine is now 90+% modded. 530m/s boost speed, nice handling. It seems to bounce every time I land, not elegant - probably I land in a nose-down attitude.

Summary: I like it. More than Python because Python looks like a wedge and this like a pancake. I like pancakes. It's like a mix of Asp and Python.

Nice mini review. Python has better armour also. Compare stats here:

The SLF option and maneuverability definitely makes the Krait a goto fun ship. :) And being able to see your guns blazing up close makes it a MustBuy for VR players. :)

Its definitely a more multi-crew friendly ship.

- 3 large top mounts for turret gunner
- 2 lower medium forward guns for pilot
- 1 fighter for another player

Edit:

With a rather light configuration A and D rated with only an engineered 5A thruster and 6A powerplant i get 300 speed and 32-33 LY jump range while having a full exploration outfit and a fighter craft.

Indeed.

The bow extensions do occlude a quite important sector of view in VR though. (As expected.)

But the visual guns compensate more than enough for this! :)

Of course does a snake field two medium sized tools.
But i didn't foresee everybody getting so wild at having visual
confirmation of deploying his two hardpoints...... :)

I'm thinking that the Krait is not brilliant for gimballed/turret weapons. The firing arc of the top hardpoints barely intersects the firing arc of the front hardpoints. I think I'm going to solve that problem by putting some imperial hammers either side of the cockpit.

X2 Pack launchers on the lower X3 gimbal large pulses on the upper.

Its a nice ship, however:
While it can do everything pretty well like a Python, it cant do everything without fiddling with refitting like a Python can.
The existence of the Guardian FSD Booster makes the difference more extreme.

The Python also has higher base shields and 1 more size 6 Internal. ...

The issue(?) is intensified due to the fact that if you use the Krait's USP (the fighter bay), you'll lose yet another size 5 or even size 6 internal! That's the same issue the Keelback suffers from: outfitting a SLF is a great hit on the ship's general usefulness! (Other than the considerable increase in firepower (and fun!) of course.)

And this is, why I also agree with the following statement:

... I do love the Krait however and will be using it alongside my Python!

What for ?
I only get out of my Python for one of my specialized ships (DBX, Asp, FDL, Vette, Cutter).
What can the Krait do that is better than any of them ?

It IS a nice ship, and that fighter bay is a significant combat boost over the Python, but it doesnt make it better than an FDL/Vette, and the Fighter Bay (with a Guardian FSD booster) make it a pretty crappy multi-role.

I'm going to try some mining in mine tonight.

I noticed when returning to my home station and looking through the mission board the buff that mining missions have received, quite a few there, eg 30 - 90t of Osmium paying between 5 - 8 Mil.

I would normally module switch on my Python between Cargo and Mining missions I think I may just leave my Krait setup as my miner, I can then just transfer it wherever see decent mining missions or a mining CG.

I get about 160t of cargo space with a mining fitted Krait.

I like the Krait, but I still prefer to use the Python for bubble activities and mission runs. The extra optional module slot helps a lot thanks to the FSD booster.

Python for bubble.
Krait for exploration and alien activities. The Krait acts more like a ASPx in my case.

It's just a feeling, but flying the Python feels smoother than the Krait.

I feel like the Krait is basically another Keelback situation, it wants to be a combat ship but it's only marginally better than the ship it's based on.

It only has 2-3 degrees more pitch per second than the Python which is pitiful for a "heavy fighter" or any sort of combat. An A rated Clipper has 40+ degrees/s pitch speed where as the Krait and Python sit at 35 and 33 degrees/s for example. I honestly cannot feel the difference between my Krait and my Python when it comes to flying. It's basically all in your head if you think the Krait is a better flying ship.

And that is all that is needed to win a fight. A mindset.

For example, the British won in India using similar armament and being in a logistical disadvantage. But they had the correct mindset.

I side with this evaluation, undoubtebly its a beatiful looker, but its impractical for almost every role because it tries to hard to do everything. It's not got any vertica thrusters also, not to mention the laterals only being mediocre at best. Honestly I'd rather have the python for pew pews as the all round thruster performance is higher. But don't get me wrong here, I don't hate it, it could make a very good explorer vessel that can punch if needed. But for day to day use, PvE or PvP, it's just another meh ship. Mayhaps a more skilled pilot than I would get better results, but the appauling lack of responsivity far outweigh the advantages of its 3 second boost delay or massive distributor/hardpoint ratio.

Also its PP and upper hardpoints are ridiculously easy to take out.

I love my Krait so far. It's agile enough in a fight, handles great outside of one, 3x large plasmas give it a heavier plasma punch than the 2x huge on my Corvette, I can get 30ly in it while carrying everything I need for exploring or fighting, it looks fantastic, shields are fine...

This ship is capable of taking my 6x ship main fleet down to just two - Krait and a miner.

The Krait is really testing my resolve to only fly Cobras.

Its a classic ship, looks awesome, and it can take a SLF. Something i'm lacking at the moment.

*sigh*
