My ship(s) is (are) named....

many of my ship names i have already posted so i won't bother to repeat, but every now and then i find one of them with an odd name that makes me wonder why i named it that, e.g.

Orca - Chew Toy

Corvette - Trouble Brewing (possibly a Gary Larson/Far Side reference)
Chieftain - Test Subject
Anaconda - Off The Books
Anaconda - Build Me #1 (also #2 and #3)
Anaconda - Grumpy
Sidewinder - Ingrown Toenail
Cobra - Sandshoe
Vulture - Lazy And Unreliable

...and many more

My favourites have pop culture references:

then went down the Latin route for the rest of the animal theme boats:
Adder - Acanthopis
CobraIII - Ophiophagus
Dolphin - Delphinus
Eagle - Aquilae
Sidewinder - Crotalus
ViperIII - Ophraycus
ViperIV - Ophraycus II

With the Miscellaneous ones loosely based on their job role:

Type-6 - The Underminer
Type-7 - Thomas the Tank

and a FAS, FDS and iCourier which I haven't named yet.

I've been trying to stick to literary references.

Cobra Mk.III - Anjura
Named for a character from Hindu mythology.

Asp Explorer - The Great A'Tuin
My first thought upon seeing the little wings from the ship kit was that it made the asp look like a turtle. My second was that a ship that will be constantly wandering the cosmos couldn't have a better name.

Imperial Courier - Peregrin
Sleek, and fast. I wanted to name this ship after the falcon, but sticking to my literary theme, I dropped the 'e'.

Corvette: William Bin Lid
Cutter: Zeoxy Dermestid
Anaconda 1: Dermy Bud
Anaconda 2: Saskatchewan Bunnyhug
Asp Explorer: Goblin Wyrd
Fer-De-Lance: Dumb Broad
Beluga: Tomothy’s Tail

Asp X: Proud Mary (yes, I'm old :p )
FdL: Sir Killalot (well, not really true anymore, this one is sitting under a blanket in a far away star port long since)

I’ve determined to work “Ophidian” into my ship names - so many ship models are named after snakes anyway.

Plus, Ophidian also references meandering, winding and twisting. Kinda like my play style 😜

Last, Monster Manual II.

Python: Ophidian’s Song
Asp X: Ophidian’s Heart
Cobra III: Grim Ophidian
Sidey: Ophidian Tooth

Yes, before anyone says, I know that last one means Eagle in Latin, I just like the name., it's as simple as that.

I'm from Detroit and a big hockey fan so mine are Red Wing 1, Red Wing 2, Red Wing 3, etc... most of them are painted red as well so it works.

Although I just bought a clipper and it looks kinda weird in red so for now I've left it white and named it Empire's Reach.

Viper Mk III: Hammer of God
Viper Mk IV: Vile Silencer
Python: Venomwind
Imperial Courier: Cosmic Debris
Federal Gun Ship: Zombie Wolf
FDL: Excentrifugal Force

Nice I grew up in Detroit as well. Like the idea. Should have given them the number from the team but still nice idea.

FNS Second Sun, (flagship Corvette)
Midlothian II, (Exploraconda- named in honor of the Midlothian, my trusty Asp X from my first account that got tragically deleted.
Gambol (Python)
3:10 to Yuma (Type-9)
Chicago On Ice, (FDL- decommissioned, awaiting parts transfer)

Smaller ships: the Eightball (Cobra, earned me a billion at the Seige of Oxley Keep), the Nemo (a Dolphin kitted for scan data and USS mat gathering), the Nostradamus (stipped down taxi DBX).

Cutter : The Ducks Nuts (bulk trader and CG Runner)
Anaconda: RNGesus (multirole but mainly combat)
DBX: Froggy (the pond jumper and armed explorer)
Python: Vengeful Spirit (mission runner and materials/component gatherer
Cobra Mk3: SLR5000 (its lime green:D) (if you can guess the relevance of this name then you probably Australian and from an early 70's vintage or older)
Cobra Mk4: still thinking of something (miner)
iCourier: still thinking of something (was going to be a racer but I lost focus, still to be finished)
FAS: Pigdog (bounty hunting and cz's when trying to learn FA off flying)

ships on my Radar include a T10 explorer build and a Xeno hunting/studying ship
By way of an update the DBX was renamed the Buzzkill after a hard exploration leg, the Cobra MkIV is now "The Womble" which is also its role (stole the idea off another commander), the courier and FAS have gone.

i have added a Viper MkIII to teach me fixed weapon, FA off flying which I have named "Mr Lucas" after a favourite school teacher from long ago and a chieftain which I finished engineering today in a combat role and as a tribute have named it "Spirit of ANZAC" which is fitting given its the 25th of April.

lest we forget
