General / Off-Topic Name that domain

I might add a poll later when a few ideas come in but i'm looking for inspiration for a domain name for my site.

sadly spacestorm.co.uk is taken but apart from spacestormcentral that sounds a bit naff I'm all out of ideas, besides the fact i intend my book to be a small part of the site as a whole.

the plan is for a multi level writers forum, a public section where people can post and discuss current elite fiction as well as begin their own stories and a whole bunch of private writers forums where people can work on their book/story/whatever behind closed doors and in the company of a few trusted friends to help them.

like a lot of sites there will be a qualification to have your own private writers forum set up, in this case instead of being required to part with money for the privilege users will be encouraged to post 3000 words or more of their work in public to show they are serious about it, much like I've done with space storm on here.

each writers forum would be moderated by the author and if any of the professional writers join the site (those published through the writers packs) they would gain automatic mod status and be able to view all authors private forums so they could chip in and help out with canon issues etc.

thats the idea, what the heck do i call it?

deepspacestorm.co.uk
darkspacestorm.co.uk

Could really do with a little more info. Do you want to include space, storm, both or what else?

if anything space storm shouldn't be in the title, i hope my book becomes one of many fan written works so it needs a broader focus

elitespacestorm.com is available.

as i said, more general, less focused on my book.

with some input from Selezen I've come up with elitestories.co.uk, it fits the best so far - provided nothing better shows up I'll be emailing FD to ask for approval of my plans by the weekend and starting work on the site once i get the ok.

Have you considered something more generic in case you expand into other fiction than just elite-based? infinitestories.co.uk is available as is infinitetales - hints to a space/exploration/adventure theme, but could encompass anything.

that's a very good point, but there is no reason each genre or fan base cant have it's own domain name and landing page with the forum behind each being common ground, anything added later can be headed up by a fan of that subject and bolt on to the writers user base. each would have its own unique legal requirements, for example to make money out selling an elite fiction book you would need a writers pack and plot clearance from FD so it may be better to keep a bit of a Chinese wall between them.

Instead of buying additional domain names you could just add sub domains which won't cost anything...

elite.infinitestories.co.uk
space.infinitestories.co.uk

www.horror.infinitestories.co.uk

...and so on.

at £7 for 2 years on a .co.uk its worth the money to keep the URL's short IMO, beside the fact I'd want a version of myself for each genre to act as caretaker for that section of the site, if we had a load of members interested in 50 shades type erotic fiction for example i wouldn't know where to start.

the URL approach also means other web site owners can control their own front page and the forum section of the site then becomes a common element to a group of associated 'front end' sites with a shared theme of writing.

add to that it means FAQ databases for background info on a genre can be keep separated, would you want to look up shield penetration on a database full of 50 shades references?

just a simple idea..

you could just add the word 'THE' infront of any name you want if it's already taken?
theideafactory.co.uk:D

Can you give a little more info as to what area's you are going to go into?
Is it just elite or are you looking at general writing.
So for example if it’s just scifi then coming up with a name shouldn’t be an issue but if you are opening yourself up to other types then we need to know. As im sure i could come up with a few titles.

the site will be focused on elite to begin with but will welcome other genres if someone wants to write for them. I'm thinking of keeping the url/landing page separate for each major genre so a one size fits all name isn't really required.

this way if fans of twilight join they can have their own 'sparkleystories' url and us Elite fans don't have to put up with pictures of some sucker on our home page. the landing pages can also be maintained by a fan of each genre to save me having to write for a front page of a genre i wouldn't want to read if it was the last book on earth.

I was going to post, "It doesn't really matter. Shorter is better".

I have igct.net
And don't bother looking, there is no web server or web page there. It's currently only used for email.

But it's short and easy to remember.

The disclaimer at the bottom of your page is a legal nonsense.
You say Frontier has nothing to do with it, but a full 50% of the current graphic content comes straight from Frontier.

But I do like your back ground picture.
