Native 0.7.0.0 and 0.8.0.0 Oculus Runtime Functionality?

Hi guys, i didn't use my dk2 for months (maybe 8-10 months). Back then, it was judder fest with my r9 290. I just got a 980ti and i see some of you having pretty good performances with 0.8 + win10 + nvidia +75hz main monitor +steamvr installed. I'm on win10 and i got a 120hz monitor wich also support 75hz so i won't need to create a custom rez.
Can someone tell me what driver i need to use? (i'm receiving the 980ti in few days). I saw the post "compendium for nvidia users". Is it still up to date?

Thanks.

edit: up, is there anyone here having 980ti and good perf with 0.8 / win 10?

If all you ever use the rift for is playing Elite then fill your boots with a highly customized setup that works for you. However, for many of us, we use the rift for more than just Elite. I use it with Virtual desktop, play Fallout 4 through vorpx and many more uses. All those do require runtime 8.

I get that, and I'm not trying to argue or make any declarative statements about what I or anyone should be doing. I'm seriously just asking the question, because I'm trying to figure out if I personally should make the change and it didn't seem like it needed a whole new thread. I see how my posts could be read in the typical narcissistic forum troll voice, but I promise, I didn't intend any sarcasm whatsoever.

I've broken my setup countless times by upgrading run times, drivers, OSs, etc., and hoped someone could help me decide if it would be worth it for someone in my current situation. I'm sorry it came out otherwise.

As written above. Uninstall SteamVR from the tools. Then try to start Elite. ;)

I have tried this without Steam and when I hit the Play button on the launcher it goes away for about 3 seconds and then reappears as if it just did nothing.

I played Horizons with .800 runtime for the first time last night because over the past week the judder has disappeared. Perhaps due to steam updates and Elite ones. For the most part it was judder free... just the occasional when in supercruise approaching planets but very very minor. In combat around densely packed asteroid field and everywhere else it was perfect.

GTX 680.

359.06 driver.

I have tried everything to get this to launch in to my HMD and no luck. I have Steam, opted in to Beta, can get to the Steam VR launcher but it just launches on my monitor. I can open Oculus 0.8.0 utility and hit Demo scene and everything looks perfect, centered perfectly everything but game will not launch in my Headset. I did get my monitor to go 75HZ at 1440 x 900 but that leaves the menu way off the top right of the screen where I cannot get to it. Anybody got any ideas? I am sure I probably need to get in to that menu and set it to the HMD correct?
Edit: Should I be showing the Rift as a display in NVidea control panel when on runtime 8? The only thing showing is my monitor and it is set to 75HZ. I got in to the game menu under graphics but no setting for the HMD and no 75HZ.

verify elite with the options tab on the launcher

So if it isn't just point to the executable? Are you saying the Steam launcher or the FD Launcher? I am close as I loaded Virtual Desktop and instantly turns the HMD blue and works great says a constant 75HZ on it using .04 resources. When I launch the game the HMD does not come and does not show on the in game options

Edit: Restarted again and now Steam launch engages my HMD and I see it in the menu now, now I am getting somewhere.

Can u run other VR games and demos supporting 800 runtime?

Half Life 2 for example used with the free virtual desktop works perfectly.

Quite a few VR demos work in 800.

I remember I had similar issues. Everything was installed correct but SteamVR refused to pick up the DK2.
Turned out that it's super picky with the monitor screen resolution.

Try setting your monitor to 1920x1200 and trying again.

I don't have the beta but did opt in. I finally found what was missing last night as it was confusing me that the game was showing under a VR section and you could even launch it from there but it would not grab the HMD nor show in game as an option. Log in to Steam and under your Library go to tools, go down the list and find Steam VR then load the app. This cured everything and I no longer need to even use Steam can just launch from the ED Launcher. Tweaked all evening and using the HMD performance HUD was able to get it running at 75 in station and space. Going to hit the surface today and see what that looks like. Running a PNY GeForce 980 4GB just trying a few more tweaks but I have SS in game at 1.5 also changed the HUD to Riva settings manually as EDDS does not seem to work with Win 10.

Glad you figure it out.

Be interested to hear how you get on, on the surface.
SS is the one thing I have given up on. As soon as I enable it, my 970 drops down to 40-50 fps. Even with low settings.

Okay, I'm all fixed, simply...

0. Install 0.8.0.0 Runtime for DK2.
1. Install SteamVR
2. Click and Start SteamVR
3. Setup SteamVR
4. Play Elite Dangerous, and select HMD

(strange Combat Mode does not support VR!).

It's squarely on Frontier to optimize this game for Direct-to-Rift. As it stands it's a judder-laden disaster with 0700/0800 runtimes. The experience is awful, only to be insulted more by paying for it.

Folks can't be expected to use 0601 and lower runtimes at this stage given the fact that the new Oculus is three months away and the 1000 runtimes are already shipping to developers. Frontier will miss the boat if they don't get their act together.

It's the holidays period. Why not give them a deserved rest until next week so they can get a fresh start at getting VR to play nice?

Happy holidays!

Well they won't be getting a development CV and the 1.0SDK as they clearly preferred the Vive offering. Probably won't be seeing any improvement with oculus until at least May/June time.
