Naval ascension missions - why are they so random?

I recently completed two naval ascension missions, to become a Lord and a Viscount respectively.
The first one was rather intense, killing a guy very well covered with a wing of Vultures. I made it in sweat, happy to get my well deserved title :)
The second was very different: I just had to kill a novice Cobra in an anarchy system. It was so fast that my FSD did not even have time to cool down after interdiction.

How come we don't get an incremental difficulty for that type of assignments?

I'm still not getting any naval ascension missions... but yeah, it'd be better if they got progressively more difficult.

They spawn less than before 1.3.
Also, I noticed that mien came back after I completed several faction missions for a faction aligned with my main power. I don't know whether it is a coincidence. Why don't you try to find a faction with the Feds/Empire, run a bunch of missions and see if something spawns?

...just wait until you reach higher-ranking Missions requring you to make a boring, easy-peasy one-way Message- or Cargo delivery ;)

But on the good side of things, if you don't like a specific Mission - the next one appearing might be entirely different.

I got the super exciting courier service missions already :D
My problem is not so much the type of assignment but rather the difficulty (or lack thereof). What's gonna happen next time: I'm gonna destroy an Adder and marry A Lavigny Duval as a reward?

Hey now, she pretty good for 58 yr old. BTW, that's got to be a typo. She looks more 38 to me. Then again, Aisling looks like she's 15, so I may be a bad judge.

They are entirely random now, taking a big grab from all existing Mission types.

Also... The Rank Progression Missions and -System has been subject to harsh critique since a full year now. So far, nothing really changed. Just a bunch of standard Missions from the portofolio of existing Bulletin Missions.
It has always been that way.

Who knew that when they said they were going to fix and revamp these for 1.3, all they meant is that they would drop the "go someplace and meet with someone not yet in the game" was going to be dropped and no more permits?

Progenitor Cells.

Targeted engineered cells to restore damage in older human cells. These can greatly extend the life of humans that take them. Some cultures believe it is immoral, especially as they tend to be used by the richest people, and so they are illegal in some jurisdictions.

I think FD missed a trick with Naval Ascension. There should be a series of missions with a progression and some story. The end of it should require an expensive ship and good combat skills before you get that last rank.

This^^ The current system is horribly designed and lacks.. well everything.. no imagination or creative juices flowed on this part.

As I see it there is not much sense to what triggers being offered a rank mission. I spent ages post 1.3 donating and donating cash for Rep and nothing appeared. after this I visited an allied station for something and checked the Bulletin Board and there was a Rank Mission. So I did it and have had 4 more (two each navy!)

Waiting for number 3 now!

In a reflection of the real military, call it needs of the service, mixed with the fact that common sense was secured a long time ago. Sometimes technical expertise and excellent physical fitness gets you promoted, sometimes it's holding the right flag officer's umbrella during a change of command ceremony in August. And sometimes, people are promoted because they're just really good at paperwork and shining their shoes. True story.

What we really need is a progression bar to track whether we are near to the next rank/naval ascension mission. currently, the system seems bugged.

INDEED!

It is not fun to play a game and have no chance to get an idea of what the hell you are doing. This system finally need some transparency.

It'll be in eventually. The current system is just a place holder while the game is in beta.

This would go against the games dynamics of "just content" with no "back content" :) I would love the idea though. Sadly, I have almost reached top ranks to I would miss out on this great idea :(
