Need a good laugh? Watch my DBX lose power and explode on the surface right in front of my SRV!

A rescue mission 14000 LY out in the black, are you sirius? What waiting time would you probably expecting/accepting?

If SagA* can be reached from Sol in about 8 hours I would expect only 14kly to be about 5-6 hours.

For a dedicated CMDR with the tools and grit :)

This isn't anything against you at all, but I'm honestly having a difficult time understanding this. I suppose if I have a weakness it's having too much empathy for my own good. It even makes watching some movies very difficult for me, even though I can distinguish logically between a plot and true events in real life that have significant impacts on people.

I know I'm wearing my heart on my sleeve with my responses so far in this thread instead of "manning up" to the apparent norm. I do however understand that humor is a coping mechanism of sorts to relieve tension, and this is why I'm not holding anyone at fault or judging them bast on their reactions.

Sometimes we can take ourselves too seriously in this game, but on the other hand, and more often than not in my opinion, sometimes we don't take ourselves seriously enough.

Dude it's a digital ship in a video game.
Jesus. Lighten up.

I laughed at the video because it's funny. No one actually got hurt and all the OP lost was a little time, which we all lose playing video games anyway.

You said it! Take a chill pill.

Awesome. What are they doing there if nobody has to be rescued?

There's like a hundred explorers setting out on a galactic circumnavigation right now, including me. So yeah, I've got some company in the system I'm stuck in, but they all have ships, LOL.

The further thought then occurs: if the life support is being disabled whenever the ship is in automatic flight, will it eventually cause the ship to explode if the oxygen runs out, as it would if I was on board? I really need to do some research on this...
Panic over: it turns out the only thing that gets disabled when the ship flies off is the cargo hatch.

I'm still going to investigate this at some point though; build a ship and/or modify its priorities such that life support is lost when the hangar is active and the thrusters engage. Then see if I can get it to explode by repeatedly dismissing and recalling it until the O[SUB]2[/SUB] runs out. But I think I'll do that back in the bubble. And with a cheaper ship. :D

It's unfortunate that the game engine isn't able to detect when the ship is sitting on it's feet, and attempt transition into being "landed". Even a half-faked "landed" state, with one of the landing gear feet floating off the surface, sometimes happens even in supposedly normal landings, so it'd be fine to even have that if necessary.

It'd be interesting to try to repeat it with Mengy's exact loadout. From watching the vid the 'power capacity exceeded' message isn't one I've seen before (from the SRV) so could be a new feature or the correction of a previous bug. I've been out for a year but I only have to worry about power limits when I switch on both AMFUs (ie very rarely) so I'm satisfied this bug/feature won't affect me, but it could potentially catch out players using min/maxed ships like Mengys (presumably).

Back in the bubble I have a scavenger Cobra where the SRV bay is only powered when the thrusters are off, it gives the power capacity exceeded message when jumping as others have described in this thread. I have previously rejoined that ship while it hovered above me. I am guessing that perhaps that oversight/exploit has been fixed, causing Mengy's problem.

I get it frequently on one of my engineering taxi ships. It goes over power if the SRV bay is on. When I land the thrusters turn off, so I have enough power to turn on the SRV bays. When I dismiss the ship and the thrusters come back online, i get the "power capacity exceeded". But the power priorities are set up so that only the SRV bay shuts off.

TBH...I laughed (sorry mate). Funny video. Good thing only a DBX. Just when you think ED has no more surprises :)

My point is that based on my experience of that Cobra hovering to collect me, I guess the power limit was previously ignored when under AI control, but that bug/exploit may now have been fixed. I'd be surprised if Mengy hadn't set the power priorities to failsafe, he/she is an experienced pilot.

On a related but unconnected note, I find it a little frustrating that the distro is no longer reset to where I left it. I always park with it set to 420 but if I recall the ship it always returns 240. Fortunately I haven't recalled my ship whilst under fire for a long time.

Mengy, did you already get a reaction from support?

Yep! Sometimes tragic stories have happy endings! Support fixed me right up and I have my DBX back in one piece! My first experience with support was a pretty great one.

I also found the cause of my troubles, and after some deep thoughts, I have to begrudgingly admit that it was due to pilot error. When I logged into the game tonight I was greeted with this less than normal situation in the cockpit:

I've always been meticulous about my ship's power settings, but I know how this happened. Right before I left Jameson I decided to bring along a second SRV just to have a spare. Normally my 2G Hangar goes in a size 3 internal and I have the 4A AFMU in the size 4 internal. In order to bring two SRV's I had to swap them, putting a larger 4G Hangar in and downsizing the AFMU to a 3A. When I did this I never changed the new 3A AFMU to power priority 4. This caused the power failure, because when I landed I did a quick FSD repair to fix some neutron damage, then powered up the SRV and deployed, and then dismissed my ship, which of course ended in tragedy. Normally the AFMU at priority 4 would simply have lost power and everything would have been fine. Totally my own dumb fault due to not double checking things after modifying my outfit.

It's all fixed up now:

Carelessness and utter complacency on my part. Even after more than half a million light years mistakes can still be made.

Anyway, I'm back and flying again!

That is so awesome! WOW, I wish the game had a mechanic where we could come & rescue you.

So you want gameplay? We still need to wait one more year to start having some basic mechanics like exploration and mining. :(

Maybe in 3 more years perhaps we will get more complex stuff to do.

Good to have an explanation, thanks. So you're not going to self destruct then, you're carrying on?
