Need advice on choosing a ship

Hey everyone,
So I decided i need a decent combat ship.
I have unlocked most of the engineers and right now am grinding for materials. I was thinking to fully engineer a Vulture first and next get an FDL or a Chieftain or Python. But as Im grinding right now Im starting to wonder If engineering a Vulture is even worth the time? I can get credits for a medium ship + best modules pretty fast. What would you guys do? Vulture or no Vulture?
Thanks in advance to everyone responding.

Sun roofs and power seats are just more stuff to break. Always go a step down from LX.

Chief is a wonderful ship, OP.

A larger ship comes with a larger rebuy and if you are just starting out in your star fighter branded underpants you might want to consider how much money you are willing to throw away in the name of trial and error.

Start small, work up. Vulture is good.

Viper IV is a nice little tank.

During Beta, I got a Chief and pretty much maxed it. Eh... went back to the Vulture.

Chief handles like an ice boat.

if you are keen to engineering and like the vulture, then absolutely. the vulture is probably the ship most impacted by engineers. its main drawback is being highly power constrained. overcharge the powerplant and suddenly you can fit whatever you want, no limits. its second drawback is slow speed. dirty drive the engines and no npc can outrun you anymore (ofc players in engineered ships still will). a vulture dictating range, who would have thought of that! natural born killing machine gone berserk ...

Vulture is an outstanding ship but it does need a lot of engineering to really shine.
Imperial courier is a joy to fly too but slightly underpowered in the firepower department.
Chieftain is nice but too drifty for my preferences.

My three main ships are the FDL, Corvette and the DBX.

I like pew pew.
I would upgrade the DBX first and use it to gather mats because of its great jump range.
Then FDL.
Then Corvette.

Tried all the other ships and like most of them however the time it takes to max out those two are daunting enough for me.

Fly dangerous

Yup, got the DBX for material gathering as well, amazing ship if a little clumsy.
I like the way of dakka more though...

Python isn't really a combat ship although it can certainly defend itself.

Depends on your budget OP. If I was building my fleet again and could afford it I'd go straight for a FAS or Chieftain. But if the Vulture fits your budget better then you can't go wrong with one.

Don't overlook the Imperial Courier - it might be small but it is a mean ship, especially with Engineered Enhanced Engines.

DBS is a good choice if you don't have the Imperial rank for the Courier.

DBX is an excellent choice for a bounty hunting ship - it has probably the best jump range for a fully outfitted ship too.

Python is probably the single most useful ship in the game - only outdone by the Anaconda for sheer utility and diversity.

Chieftain is an excellent choice for pure combat as is the FDL.

The Corvette is king of Combat IMO and can do a decent job of multi-rolling too.

If you are planning on going after Thargoids though there are possibly other ships better suited for it.

DBX wire looms are zip tied along the canopy rails. Those rails are structural, and some low budget engineer decided to just drill holes in it for zip tie mounts... I wouldn't let an Imperial slave pilot a heap of junk like that. I'm surprised more don't come apart on jump. Gutamaya it is not.

Anything but a DBX.

Ah Gutamaya...the makers of the Eagle that is not the Eagle, The Banana Nose ship, The Neanderthal Forehead ship, the you know what shaped ships and The Cutter...
Yeah, gonna stay away from them at least till I can afford that last one :D :D

DBS.
Paint it Blue.

Ferdie. It can out maneuver the big three and it has a huge hardpoint. so it can actually deal damage. Vulture is okay, I guess, although the powerplant is a bit weak.
