Newcomer / Intro Need help and can't find another section of the forums to post this in

Just got killed doing a delivery wing mission. The mission page, where it shows how much of the cargo you've delivered, still has the amount I was carrying partially filled in on the bar. Normally this is the amount I am currently carrying, but my cargo hold is empty. It's not letting me partially complete the mission, so I assume I have to get that cargo back. How do I find out where it is?

It's going to depend on the type of mission. If it it mission specific cargo then I don't know any way to get it back. You may well fail the mission. If the cargo is not mission specific you should be able to replace it. Have you tried just buying the same amount again and delivering that?

Ok, starting from the top:
  • there is a newcomers questions subforum: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forums/elite-dangerous-newcomers-guides-tutorials/ - that also includes a link to the Galactic Academy discord right at the top, where you can get answers much faster (and possibly in-game realtime help). Otherwise, it doesn't matter that much, although the people here in DD can be a bit less forgiving.
  • a screenshot of your mission page might be helpful, as there are multiple bars that are easily confused. Right now, I'm not sure whether you're experiencing a bug, have the wrong expectations or are just looking at the wrong place
  • in order to partially complete the mission, you'll have to actually deliver a certain percentage amount (again, screenshot, please)
  • there's no way to get back that mission cargo. It's lost. If there isn't enough cargo in your pick-up depot any more to complete a partial delivery, you're SOL and will have to abandon the mission (and pay the penalty, if there is one involved). In that case, and if you still have some cargo in the pick-up depot, you might as well pick up the remaining cargo first and recoup at least some of your losses by flogging it off in a suitable black market.

Here is a screenshot of the mission.

If you look at the "Progress" bar at the top, I have delivered almost all of the cargo, as shown by the bar being mostly solidly coloured; I have delivered 4728 out of the required 5738. At the end of the bar there, you see a portion of the bar is a faded colour, which happens when you have picked up cargo but haven't delivered it yet. I was killed and no longer have that cargo in my hold but that bar is still faded and I haven't automatically failed the mission.

As per dayrth's question, the cargo I was delivering had the "Mission" marker when it was in my inventory, does that mean it was mission specific? If so, then I don't think I've ever had a delivery mission where the cargo wasn't mission specific.

That might be above the "partial delivery" theshold. Jump to the destination depot and check the mission page there (main display). If the "partial complete" button is lit up, you can do the partial delivery.
Might be that in order to do a partial delivery you would need to have cleaned out the source depot first - I never did a wing cargo mission.

That was the first thing I tried to do, as I respawned in the destination depot. I could not choose the partial complete button. I'll try what you suggested and empty out the source depot.

I've always had to abandon missions like that. I think it should be allowed to buy replacement goods. :-(

As it turns out, you can partially complete once the source station is empty, so hopefully that's helpful for you in the future; you don't have to abandon the quest, just have to deliver everything remaining and then partially complete.

The reward I ended up getting wasn't enough to cover the insurance cost of my ship being destroyed 🙃 so I just spent about two hours of my life, ultimately, earning negative money. Seriously considering uninstalling rn.

You spent two hours of your life learning parts of the game, e.g. that mission send ships after you, which ships are to tough for you to take on in a cargo ship, maybe also gotten a bit better at evading said ships for the future, increased reputation with a minor faction, learned more about game mechanics, all just for one rebuy. There will be more rebuys, but in the end you will get better, and make the money back, and more. Much more.

You will discover sooner or later, that the game is not about making as many credits as possible, because when you have all the credits in the galaxy there is nothing you can do with them.

So, before you uninstall, try something else .... mining ... piracy .... shooting things .....t here's more to the game than just wing missions.

And as Craith says.

You're both right. Just, , man. My second to last trip.

If you're worried about money, there are a few ways (most of them, actually) to make money faster than doing wing cargo missions solo. Get a small (or medium, at the most) ship and grind LTDs, Void Opals or Painite for a couple of sessions. After that, return to whatever you like with a nicely cushioned account.

deliver 5k units? as shown at your picture this was a WING mission! why You took it all by your own? and even worse, after fail start complain?

sorry here but what about read description BEFORE click on accept?

1. Why engage in combat during a partial wing delivery mission?

2. Why do a wing supply mission anyway? The reward per trip is never (or hardly ever) as much as you can make with non-wing ones - maybe the big ticket clouded judgement?

Whatever the case - it is just one event in a game with a myriad of events awaiting you, shame to bin the game because of this.
