And if I get a phone call interruption? Many buttons to push in a few seconds! Doorbell rings I need to answer! (which happened while I was in supercruze) I guess the game designers did not consider that real life interruptions occur. There must be a better way. Aggravating a customer is not good practice. I learned my lesson.

Oh wow. Very quick to blame the developer here. This is an online only persistent world. By extension, pausing for you means pausing for everyone else who is playing at the time. This will not happen. If you have to leave, log out. If you have to be a Customer (note the capitalisation - this is used for those who feel that Customer Service = do exactly as I say, or I will spit my dummy), then you are unlikely to get sympathy here.

If you Know it doesn't have a pause function. And there is a perfect use able way to protect your ship.. this is called survival of the fittest and Just Consider yourself CULLED..

wow. how difficult is one keypress and 2 mouseclicks? ('P', "Save and exit to main menu","YES")
create a hotkey for it with AHK or similar if this is too much. or a VoiceAttack command.

The only safe place in this game is logged out.

Exactly! There is no TRUE Single Player mode in ED. You are always "IN" the game when you are connected regardless of whether or not you can be at the controls. The game is ALWAYS running, so there isn't a PAUSE, just like real life has no pause feature.

Safest place to "PARK" is either just off a friendly station, or on a pad somewhere. I often sit on a pad while I tend to other things around here, or as HotWings accurately suggests... If you are not going to be around for an extended period, best to just SAVE and QUIT.

Then you have nothing to worry about. :)

OK so I am a stupid player. Ok I am a noob. Maybe the pause idea is stupid.

Is it too much to ask to just have a buy back price for a lost ship (a reasonable percentage of original cost) in case one doesn't have enough money??? I spent many hours playing and enjoyed the game but I do not want to reinvest the same time again to rebuild a ship again at full price. Thats not fun. Real life meteor showers happen during gaming.

Just offering constructive feedback. Not blaming the game designers for my stupid play. RIP

5% isn't reasonable? My multi-million(almost 6.5 mil I think) investment in my Diamondback Scout I was in before I shut down a few minute's ago is a buy back of just unde 400k.

Actually, when you have put in more time and built up your bank account, you will realize that the ReBuy cost for a lost ship is actually pretty reasonable. It is a fraction of the cost of the entire cost of that lost ship.

The hard lesson for many new to this game is that you should NEVER upgrade your ship beyond you ability to replace it if the worst happens. And things could have been worse! You could have been carrying 3 million credits worth of cargo, and 300k worth of Cart data that DOES GO BYE BYE forever!

No BuyBack program for lost cargo or Cartography data. ;)

Having loans available to noob players in case of mistakes is reasonable as well to buy back a ship.

No one is saying you're stupid. You just learned an important game lesson the hard way. Don't let the loss discourage you. 8 million seems like a lot, but you'll make that money up in no time.

In the death screen, on the bottom left, you can declare bankruptcy if you have no money. The loan is based off your current pilot rank.

Didn't see anything like this bankruptcy option.

What I am trying to say is that for any product development, its good to have options or plans for scenarios where the end user can recover easily from mistakes or equipment crashes. Beta testing reveals these types of problems. While angry at first about this, my real intent was to give feedback for my unexpected event, and help improve the game.

Well I think that we all think 5% is really reasonable. The prices go up as your ships get better, and all that time upgrading means you are playing enough to know the risks. If you spent that much upgrading, then you should have known what your insurance would cost. I never go below my rebuy cost. This same thing has happened to me, but because I keep a safe balance I was fine. Also the game crashing doesn't kill the ship, so you don't lose money. Sometimes the shields, but not the ship.

I find it is best to drop out of SC (I have never been killed in open space out of SC) or stay in a no fire zone, but if you had to leave quickly, just drop SC and then set throttle to full.

This. I set my throttle to 3/4 and activate my FSD so when I get back I just up the throttle and "3...2...1." ;)

My normal MO before a few days ago was to just drop to normal space and turn up my thrusters and cruise along (Not like you are going anywhere anytime soon in deep space), but that was before I actually was doing that with my T7 when a pirate dropped out of SC right next to me and started firing on me!

My point is that although this was the absolute FIRST TIME I had ever seen an NPC ship actually appear in the same place I was at in normal space, apparently IT CAN HAPPEN!

Just a word of caution for those who use this technique when taking a break from the game for other activities. :)
