Need PAUSE function : Walked away briefly -ASP ship destroyed!

I was interrupted and needed to tend briefly to a family matter and a few minutes later I came back to the game and my fully decked ASP ship was destroyed! There is no pause function except to leave the game and so the game stayed active.

Due to the always-online nature of the game you cannot pause it. It would be like trying to pause a game of multiplayer in Halo, Destiny, Battlefield or any other multiplayer game.

My normal MO before a few days ago was to just drop to normal space and turn up my thrusters and cruise along (Not like you are going anywhere anytime soon in deep space), but that was before I actually was doing that with my T7 when a pirate dropped out of SC right next to me and started firing on me!

My point is that although this was the absolute FIRST TIME I had ever seen an NPC ship actually appear in the same place I was at in normal space, apparently IT CAN HAPPEN!

Just a word of caution for those who use this technique when taking a break from the game for other activities. :)

I only use this tactic if I know for sure I'll be back in a minute or close enough to keep an eye on it. I've found out the same lesson in my smuggling career, also found out buying the illegal cargo to complete a board mission is still very profitable though can be a nuisance to track down. ;)

WeWe all sympathise, but, if you had been playing since December and lost your fully upgraded Conda with not enough to rebuy I would have really felt bad for you, but you have been playing a few weeks, clearly grinding hard to get the Asp, never the less not very long in the scheme of things, so it won't take you long to get back.....happy to drop you a few hundred tons of gold if you tell me where and when?

The Thrudds Elite Trading Tool is really handy for tracking down those special items in those missions. As long as they can be BOUGHT!

Have you ever used this?

I just like hoofing it, and learning thing's myself. Used it once, but without a T7 it wasn't worth the grind with max 128t cargo in the Asp I tried trading in.

As stated before you've learned a hard lesson, I'm surprised you managed to get an ASP without being familiar with ship insurance and the fact that not having cash reserves for ship insurance is a very bad idea.

Didn't see anything like this bankruptcy option.

What I am trying to say is that for any product development, its good to have options or plans for scenarios where the end user can recover easily from mistakes or equipment crashes. Beta testing reveals these types of problems. While angry at first about this, my real intent was to give feedback for my unexpected event, and help improve the game.
Hang on in there, we actaully sympathise with you, it happens to a lot of people, it is an issue with this game. Some people like the fact that the consequences of losing your ship are very serious, others don't, I have lost about 12 probably? Lost count. Yes its millions of credits which isnt an issue if you have insurance (although it still hurts).
.
I have flown without insurance many times and got away with it, some like me are lucky others aren't. I now ensure I have a very large slush fund of 10s of millions that I leave untouched as a buffer in case I do something stupid in my Python which has over 5 mil insurance cost! But to buy from new is over 100mil probably?
.
But if it was too easy to get your ship back, the play style would change in the game, people would be suiciding on you and all sorts of stupid things to get one over on you...sure I throw my Vulture into PVP battles not too worried about dying but I would NEVER risk my Python, maybe one day when I have over 100 mil slush fund I may do but not yet! Anyway, I think that part of the game wont change much although personally I do think its a little harsh at times...let me know if you want some gold?

Mate, it's all about priorities. The 'family matter' simply cannot have been important enough to interrupt Elite Dangerous. You can get a new family; you can't get a new Asp.
Thats true too! Joking aside, my wife is always asking me to do stuff (go to bed etc) when I am mid space or mid battle, she now knows nothing happens until I am docked safely at a station! |She now says to me " Once you have docked...can you put the kettle on, come to bed and do your duty etc" lol
