Nerd Cubed FW Elite Dangerous - cringeworthy

His comparison to Euro Truck Simulator was not entirely accurate - also, his dismissal of combat in the game was perhaps unsubstantiated, as he was terrible at shooting the Viper, and didn't even try to get better.

His discussion of the underwhelming aspects of supercruise, however, were spot on. And since the majority of this game is spent in SC, I'd say the video (on the whole) was a good critique. It was pretty funny, too.

Wow! 2 million subscribers! And all you have to do is like the sound of your own voice. Has 2 million subscribers has gone to his head?
He comes across as childish in this video: I won't be subscribing to this channel.

Well, a thickhead has 2 millionen thickhead subscribers. It is a good thing, those people will never get what Elite is all about.
Let the children play. If they really trust his "game reviews" they aren´t playing any games at all or just the real bad ones.

I disagree with him overall, but he does have a point in that things are very repetitive. We also need a mission overhaul to fill in some of the gaps.

The framework is starting to be there (planetary landings, Thargoids and EVAs would help this), but what's missing is the connection between the game systems to make everything gel together and make sense.

considering elite dangerous is most famous for transporting cargo from one station to another for trade... i'd say point #1 was correct (this alone is a sad fact that boring trading is the games most known feature)

pvp seems to rarely exist in this game so unless you count farming npc's as combat (i don't personally) the point # 2 is correct too

He obviously didn't understand many things, but he got a point that I have to agree with: when it comes to transporting stuff around Euro Truck Simulator is a much, much better game. He also demonstrated quite well the dullness of travelling around in Elite, and non-sensical stuff like salvaging stuff lost in interplanetary space being illegal.

Now, like his video or not, but think about something: how representative of the future Xbox playerbase is he?

When it comes to Nerdcubed and simulator like games he is usually totally misinformed and clueless on how to do things - watch his video on X-plane for example - to the point its not very funny.
But to be honest, this video shows how noob un-friendly can Elite be and that it can make a false bad first impression.
Also I unfortunately has to agree that galaxy is huge but pretty much looks exactly the same everywhere - and trust me I visited MANY systems already. I know i know it suppose to be realistic - but galaxy in Space engine for example has way more beauty/ variety.

Or maybe he just has a different opinion of the game than you do??

Doesnt make him "biased" or a bad person or a noob.

Lots of comments here about losing respect for this guy because he doesnt seem to like a video game that you like.... Its that type of divisive tribal mentality that makes these forums so painful to read!

way to miss the point!. lots of people do not LIKE all sorts of games but if you are going to review a product - any product, not just this, and there are more at fault doing this than just him and elite....

you should actually have at least a journeyman feel for a mechanic before you coment on it as an authority. Take the Zero punctuation review. that is a comedy piece, and he is critical in places - isnt he always? but it is obvious he has actually either put some time in, or at least done his homework.

ED has its issues, few would argue that however and i am not even saying he is 100% wrong but did he even give the game a remote chance? personally i think not.

its a shame TB never did an ED - mind you on launch it was not ready to be fair... but he was ill back then and missed a few big hitters.

only think i do know is he did say he liked it and HAS played it. he said he may come back to it one day for a (damn word filter..... lets say WTH is) or maybe a co-optional or summat.

has angry jo done one? to be fair i suspect he will have a lot negative to say about it, but i do think he will give it a fair pop as well... maybe once it is out on the xb1 he will do one if not alread.y

Having actually sat and WATCHED the video I cannot disagree with him on most points..........I think that IF FD had thought out the features a little more AND implemented them more effectively, it would be a different story. Calling out players because they do not feel as you feel about something is just plain barmy :)

TB gave some more thoughts during the Steam summer sale. I think he was pretty fair:

Guy's an idiot however the large majority of players especially X box people will approach the game the same way. There really is nothing to tell a solo player what to do or why. Oh there's the wiki.. everyone knows about that.

No he wasn't interested in it. It was like giving a chess set to a 3 year old and watching him color all the squares in. "Hey I don't know what to do so I'll just start randomly shooting things and make baseless assumptions, and post a video about it". Might as well not review at all. I can do a book report on Tale of Two Cities like that:

"Best of something, worst of something.. blah blah blah... somebody Darnay.. prison.. switcharoo... sob sob... better place and so forth... not worth reading"

Haha, right on Commander! He's on of the vast masses of snarky idiots on Youtube that seem to think they can gloss over their ignorance by poor attempts at being amusing.

:D S

Just a bloke giving his opinion. Incomplete review, didn't know what he was doing half the time, and because he didn't understand some things, basically said ED is boring. If your gonna go on U-Tube & do a review, at least do it thoroughly. I give him a generous 2/10.

He's just giving an unfettered, uninformed opinion, based upon apparently zero experience of the game. That might be how quite a few new players feel after jumping in. Pretty much everyone here reacting to this with scorn/amusement will have had past interest in, or experience with, space games. They may have years worth of knowledge of the Elite series in particular, or they may not. Either way, most of us did our research due to a previous interest in the genre, and have probably played the game more than a little. We're not the target audience for this guy's video - unless he's just trying to troll a notoriously sensitive crowd of gamers, which this one definitely is.
