New 2024 Livestream series!

The thing is, each game's community is going to want the stream to be about their game. I don't know what the CM's job entails, but it would have been nicer to have a stream each Wednesday for a different game, Planet Coast one week, Planet Zoo another, Jurassic World Evolution another week again and Elite another week again, and loop back around. Is one stream a week too much for a community manager? I don't think it is, but I'm not them doing their job, so I'm sure they know better than me how much time they have and what their workload is.

As Fireytoad said (to me and others) it's better to have some news rather than none. Looking for positives here, Frontier said on Twitter we'll find out "exciting details on TWO upcoming games" so there is that. And some Elite news will be welcome, but I'm sure the doomsayers will still moan.

Personally, I'm hoping for Elite 40th anniversary news and plans.
my humble guess is someone looked at the community work fdev was doing over all their titles and decided that it can be clipped on all fronts to save more money. why have multiple streams weekly for multiple games overall with a group of dedicated and talented cm, when you can have 1 stream monthly with 2 cm covering all of that overall...
if you were to make a shareholder appeasing decision (instead of playerbase appeasing one), would you make anything different? in the end shareholder oriented decisions is what has been driving this company to profits for the past years. right?
Kappa

It should be noted that the Elite section of the forum, got a thread about the new stream ... and the others didn't, they have to make do with the general Frontier section thread.

See? SEE? It's not all doom and gloom.
did other titles got their streams cut last year as well? as much as elite? (honestly dont know but i dont think so?) could the disenfrenchisement of the ed community have an impact on the decision to make the first 2024 stream include an ed 2024 roadmap?

How much does it cost in money for Frontier to stream?
PC's? They already have
Internet costs? They already pay for
Paying staff? I may be mistaken here, but I am fairly sure no-one connected with streaming for Frontier is on an hourly wage, ie, doing a stream would come under what they already get paid.
Maybe (read: probably) it's a time issue.

But as I said, I don't know what a community manager's job at Frontier entails.

And while I wasn't following closely the other game's twitch streams, I am pretty sure they had theirs cut back as well.

And it's a good thing that I and others know now, a week ahead, that the stream will be about other games. Frontier actually did the right thing in telling us, instead of us in the Elite section thinking the stream would be only about Elite and moaning when other games get talked about. This is what is called "managing expectations" and it's one of the worst things that has happened to Elite, and yes, we US the community, we are to blame. We set our own artificially high expectations, and then moan when Frontier don't deliver. And I am as guilty of it as anyone else.

and yet streams were cut... so without any exact measurement i guess the answer (to the question of cost of streams) could be: somewhat significant, perchance?

elite went from having a game-exclusive stream, to no stream(next week commanders), to "collective stream" where it may or may not be featured monthly"
i thought it would be impossible to pay less attention to elite than before, i was obviously wrong
but even when you take away the game's streams, some people will cheer for that, so frontier does know their audience

hopefully we will have news about the "key feature overhaul" (which was teased in 2021!!) in a 2024 collective stream, with a 2025 release date

hooray for everything (sorry for the steal, flimley)

Is it ok to hold down the ,,hype,, till the stream?

At the last years it was often speak in superlatives, and there was some dissapointment. So keep I keep expectation on a barley minimum. I guess the news are update 18 and what’s in it, and the following updates which will build up on this.

A really good news would be:

Hey here some bits about the key feature overhaul, some news to possibilty of new ships, a glimpse of thargoid on foot sighting, I mean themself not just they’re drones.

Powerplay overhaul ‚, just for you rubber,,

And a miracle would be following:
A fix for the high groundcombat fps issues. Or an tweak , so that elite runs like it should on a recommended pc.

Holy grail ?

Consoles becomes again a part of elite live galaxy in form of odyssey release just for ps5 and Xbox series X.

Landable Earth like worlds, fully explorable ship interiors. Panther clipper release, guardians rising again and last but not least a crunchy cookie to cheers up for some unreachable goals 😃

Well....🤔.....The future 'collective' streams isn't such a bad idea in in my humble opinion. Who knows, it might even get me interested in Frontiers other games, interested enough to purchase?...maybe 😉
So Frontier, lets have some good detailed coverage of your whole spectrum! 👍
I personally thought that the previous live streams of Elite / Odyssey were maybe getting a bit too lengthy, given what actual game content was revealed in recent episodes. No disrespect to the Devs or presenters here btw, I realise that you have / had only so much new content to work with.

@Paul_Crowther Twitch?
I guess I'll be catching up on the forum.
Why no youtube stream?
I must admit, I don't 'do' Twitch, Twitter or discord stuff. YouTube is about my limit as far as watching live coverage for Elite. 🦕<---Yeah I know, this is me! 😀

(Abbreviated)....

But as I said, I don't know what a community manager's job at Frontier entails.

I'm also not well versed on what a Community Managers job actually entails either, probably far more involved than I imagine.
I agree, at least Paul_Crowther has informed us in advance of what to expect. As for 'expectations' ...well....🤔. Six of one, and a half dozen of the other I think personally. Advertising takes many forms. Depends on how you want to sell the product. 🤷‍♂️.
Ok...for example (in case you ask :)) I seem to remember seeing fluffy white clouds and atmospheres in/on some Gas Giants or other imagined ELW worlds in the run up advertising for Elite, and of course there's the slightly exaggerated still pictures of planet detail and some ships etc. that we see in present day advertising for Elite.
Artistic licence?....yes (I expect that kind of thing btw).
Don't get me wrong, I agree in part to what you say about expectations, but that's the core purpose of advertising, in all it's forms.

Jack:)

If I'm going to be painfully honest...the specific ED livestream was always a bit hokey. Most of it I didn't watch, some was a bit cringey. If you can deliver a more professional presentation with a combined package, well, that can only be an improvement. 🙂

Thank god the stream finally starts at 1800 GMT ! 🤩 A much better starting time for those who have to work (at least for those here in Europe...), so thanks for that. (y)(y)
Oh and please keep it that way... 🙏

This indicates that ED is not in maintenance mode yet. What should Frontier do? Here's my 2 cents:
  1. New ships to fill the gaps in the roster
  2. A long overdue graphics upgrade (anti-aliasing, ray tracing, update the blurry nebulae etc)
  3. VR-support (could be sold as a DLC)
  4. Ship interiors as mini-DLC per ship or a full package for all ship interiors
  5. New planet types and biomes with planetary landing
  6. New land vehicles
  7. Base building and management (could also be space stations) with cosmetics
  8. Thargoid faction in Powerplay that players can support and dock at Thargoid stations
  9. Comics, figurines about the Elite universe and other merchandise

If Frontier plans another paid expansion for ED how will they not make the same mistakes as Odyssey?
I cant help but think you are reading too much into the announcement. i would dearly love you to be correct however (so long as the paid VR DLC was part of the LTP ;) )

If they do 1 game per episode they would have to reserve news for a specific month. This means other game news gets delayed. If it's only 1 game then there's usually insufficient quality content. Thus 1 stream for all games should be better overall.
i see what you are saying however i was more thinking, news update on all games each episode but have a highlighted game each one which means that game is concentrated on more than others.... however either way it has been clarified since how it will work with a rough guide on where abouts in the stream each game will be covered so there is that.

Sorry to ask, but was it those hilarous Galnet sumups I 've had a taste then couldn't find again on the forum? That was great to try and get into the lore of ED with such parody!
I am hoping to bring those back soon but as I'm sure you can appreciate, the start of the new year with some big changes has kept us quite busy :p

@Paul_Crowther Twitch?

Why no youtube stream?
It will indeed be on the Frontier YouTube!

Introducing Frontier Unlocked!
A brand newly named and consolidated monthly livestream. Where you get to watch 2 hours of babble in exchange for <1 minute of "possible" information regarding the updates for your choosen game.

it's going to be great. \o/

Another way to look at this is FDev realised they had focus problems, and have restructured themselves to be properly across all their "invest" or "maintain" games - which includes ED.

So now Elite Dangerous benefits from a studio focused on sustainability, with funding to do some things properly rather than everything with random gaps; and with a studio-sized creative team steering rather than what I suspect was largely a skunkworks team plus maybe two heads that had "ED" in their jd (and even they were spread across products in 22/23)

The model they have now can work really, really well. So can a fully-funded model with dedicated headcount if the product has the reach and the cash / brand value generation to support it.

What does not work is half-assing either of these approaches so #mepersonally this is all good news, because we know where we are now!
