New 25 essential habitat animals META-WISHLIST

Nice to see the Red River Hog being number 4 now, really hope we will get them soon.
I have a hard time understanding why it seems to be so popular on the forum. Neither me nor any people I know ever found them exciting irl.

I would be happy to hear arguments about what makes it an attractive zoo animal.

For me it is a very visually appealing animal with its bright red colour. I also find pigs really cute. And it can be combined with various african species irl. It is not a big ticket animal by any means, but it is one of those more interesting filler species in my opinion.

It’s beautifully colored, unique, great to watch in zoos, often presented near okapis and gorillas looks different from any other pig I can give you million reasons 🤷🏽

It looks very colorful for a pig species and with its ears they look even more special. And I must say a couple of Red River Hogs like at Frankfurt Zoo, Germany, are funny to watch at Zoo. And the babies are also very cute.

Unique looks for a hog, Colourfull, Easy to mix with other animals, pretty common in zoos. While not a big ticket animal, it seems rather nice and itd be cool to have something besides the warthog and babirusa ingame. from wich it looks very diffrent!

There's several reasons for me personally.

Visually, it's very different from the two piggies we have in the game now. Even though it occupies the same biome and continent as the warthog, visual difference also plays a part in what's wanted.
It's very common in zoos. It's also in my local zoo, which isn't a reason for everyone wanting it of course, but it is for me.
We have low representation of the suidaes. One from the base game and one from DLC. I understand why people would want a peccary instead; even though it's in a slightly different group of animals, it's still overall very similar in looks, behavior and design.I just would personally rather have the RRH. (an aside, I also make the case for another equid as we've also gotten only 1 in base game and 1 in DLC, but that's another thread lol)

I wouldn't put it that way. While they are both African suids, one is a rainforest animal, while the other is a savannah animal. The two can of course meet in real life where their primary habitats degrade into the other, but they actually occupy different habitats and ranges.

My main thought there was that the Common Warthog has a Tropical biome tag, which would be the same as the Red River Hog. The fact the Warthog has more than just tropical doesn't negate that, but that may have been poor wording on my part initially. Looking at it from the way you're saying, it's an even stronger argument for inclusion. I'm not all too worried about them not making it in, balancing out factors like how highly it's requested, if there's already a base rig to start with, and how common it is in zoos, along with the currently low piggie representation, it's one of the most likely inclusions before the game's new content ends.

Yeah we certainly need more piggies and these colourful and cute hogs would definitely be my first pick! As for the warthog having tropical, that has always bugged me to be honest. Maybe they wanted to recreate Lion King in-game? I don't know. Then meerkats would have had tropical biome as well.

One more equid would be a blessing - mountain / desert / critically endangared Somali wild donkey would be perfect 🤩
Would be easy to make and would be a nice filler oddball animal in drylands, desert or mountain pack.

I wasn't that excited about them at first. But then I realized they make a wonderfull combination with Bongo and okapi. Also, we don't have that many pigs and they do look cute.

Frankfurt Zoo is holding the Red River Hog together with the Bongos. And by the way Wilhelma, Stuttgart (both German Zoos) is holding the Bongos together with Kirks Dik Dik. I am all in for a Bongo and Friends pack 😀.

I really would like to see them. In all ways they would really fit into the game, especially because of their conservation history and Status.

The warthog in PZ is also almost the color of a red river hog, which also makes it appear Lion King-ish. This also takes a bit away from the uniqueness of the red river hog's color if it shows up one day.

Do you think? In my opinion the warthog within the game is still clearly brown colored whereas the red river hogs I have seen to have a real red coloration.

I would call the PZ warthogs red-brownish depending on the color variation. Some are more brown-greyish.

I think Frontier based them on pictures of wild warthogs which often seem to be affected by the color of the reddish sand/mud in parts of Africa. In captivity they always seem quite grey in the color.

Similar issue with the Komodo dragons.
