New 25 essential habitat animals META-WISHLIST

Hey @random goat, If you still have the data could you add a list of the animals that were added in previous DLCs and what were their rankings/votes?

Would be nice to see this fill up over time.

I'm still surprised at how high the African crested porcupine is. If we get a North American Animals pack, I think it's a safe bet we'd get at least one small mammal species...I wonder if this would influence them to give us a North American porcupine.

They are very different animals and I would hope it wouldn’t influence them at all.

From the point of view of versatility, for example, crested porcupine species are found in Australian and New Zealand zoos and are found in literally hundreds of collections in Europe whereas the North American porcupine isn’t found in Australian or New Zealand collections at all and only in 51 in Europe.

I’m not opposed to the inclusion of the North American porcupine but it absolutely should not be seen as an acceptable alternative to a crested species.

I was really thinking out loud because I know that's exactly how Frontier thinks. An otter is an otter. A porcupine is a porcupine etc. Since they might not have plans to do another Africa pack or any African animals for a while, I 100% can see them giving us a North American porcupine and saying that's good enough.
I think its especally interesting as the indian porcupine seems to be generally more common in captivity
To this point, it's probably just because more people know about the African species than the Indian one. Sumatran and Malaysian tigers are far more common in captivity, but if you asked people which type of tiger should be in the game, most would probably say Bengal because that's the one they know the best.

With all the African Porcupine popularity accounted for, I would love to see NA species in game. In my opinion even before or instead of African one.

Speaking as a New Zealander, I'd love the crested porcupine, but as Bearcat says I'm expecting a North American porcupine if we get one at all, and honestly I don't mind. Unlike the otter, I'm not going to be disappointed that they provide the "wrong" species if they decide to add one in.

Looking at how Frontier likes to cooperate with San Diego Zoo i wouldnt be surprised with american porcupine. Basing on current roster, frontier will always opt for their species and ask for informations about them. Some animals from game, that are not present in that zoo are simply ,,echo fighters,, made by frontier using their animals. Examples: aldabra tortoise(galapagos tortoise), dingo(singing dog), black wildebeest(blue).
Moral of history: animal u want is present in San diego? Great, it have higher chance to appear in the game.

Not just San Diego, but Chester Zoo in the UK as well.

I’m not convinced our lists have any impact at all but they are so different that to me it’s like saying, oh you all asked for an apple so here’s a mango…

Im 100% that atleast the overarching themes for the packs were allready planed out from the start and the basegame raster was picked in acount of that. We might have contributed to what exactly came in the dlc, as example for the SA pack it could have been newworld monkey and for which one exactly i can imagine that they looked at what the community had to say.
The only thing im quite sure was a direct reaction to the comminity was the animal pack

I think probably the Fennec fox and African penguin were pulled from this wishlist. I'm sure they always intended on adding the rhino and meerkat. Those perhaps they did choose the species of rhino because of how many votes it had here.

There is certainly overlap there. Tons of people want the mountain lion, and I'm sure they always intended on adding it.

I do think the SEA pack was made entirely out of fan desire for an animal pack. For all the other intended packs there were heavy hitters which were not in the base game, but the two most obvious heavy hitters for SEA (the orangutan and komodo dragon) were both used in the base game, with the komodo used specifically to flagship the deluxe edition.

I also think that the moose and cougar are the only heavy hitters left for general audiences (except aviaries and marines of course), so I wander what will be the way going forward.

Moose, cougar and capybara. :D Though granted, I'm not sure how much the general audience is wanting capybaras, but we are certainly loud enough about it here.
I think capybara have an increasingly high profile worldwide - in Japan they are megastars - and they are about to appear in the new Disney film set in Colombia. They could be a very popular choice indeed.
