New aircraft cant jump out of system - cant upgrade FSD, stuck!!

Biplane? Heteroplane?! What has this thread become...?

Apart from excellent!
I'm glad you approve of my silly little innuendo :)

Another solution is to buy your ships at high tech stations which usually have a decent supply of most modules.

Once you unlock the system Shinrarta Dezhra and Jameson Memorial station you can get every ship and every module there and a discount on ships.... to gain access to that system you need to unlock Elite rank in one area...combat, trade or exploration.

Back to the main topic of the thread, getting stuck in a new ship because you cannae get a decent jump drive (FSD), ie one that would enable you to jump to another star system. I say come and join us imperials and bask in the glory of our emperor, and in your basking within our empire, you will find one station called I Sola Prospect - located in the Brestla system, which has every ship and every module.

Hi, having done trading for a while, I eventually saved up for a Python. I bought it at Ross 842 and it came with a 5E FSD with around 8ly range, but the station I bought the ship from (Vela Dock) did not sell any better FSDs. I found I could only reach one nearby star (Long Mu) and go no further! I was stuck! There was nowhere within range to get a better FSD.

I stripped out EVERYTHING from the ship but still couldn't jump to another star to upgrade the FSD!!

Eventually I went back to Vela Dock, bought a small Hauler, upgraded to a 2A FSD (which gave a 25 ly range), flew to a major station (Trinar, McClintock Terminal) then got the Python delivered (ship transfer) to that station!! Makes me wonder how the NPC delivery team got it there with a 5E FSD with less than a 8ly range!!

Surely there is a better solution within the game, i.e. the ability to buy a FSD (or other kit) remotely and get it shipped to the system you are currently in (with appropriate wait time and costs as is done with ship transfer). Or, don't sell ships that cant go anywhere!!

Am I missing something?

p.s. I used a lot of exclamation marks in this post but that is how gobsmacked I am on this issue, on an otherwise excellent game!!!

Well, 6 weeks ago I posted my first message on this forum as a relative new player who had got stuck with the wrong FSD in my new Python with a 8LY range. Despite getting out of the pickle, I became a bit more focussed on getting further distance. So, I went through the following.....

Bought a Diamond Back Explorer (DBX) as a way of going further.
Flew to a guardian site and got a Guardian FSD
Learned all about Engineers and Materials (or Mats!) and got various engineering upgrades including lighweight stuff and longer range FSD
Boosted my Python to 30LY single jumps (with decent weapons and fit out)
Boosted my DBX to 70LY single jumps (again, with some decent kit, not totally stripped out)
Then flew 22,000 LY to Colonia!!!! What a trip! I used to think going from centre to top of bubble was a huge adventure.....

After the first 10,000LY it started getting a bit repetitive so I went 'off piste' from the Colonia highway route and start exploring and found myself as the first person an a remote planet (which I have now 'discovered'), cruising around my SRV firing at Crystalline structures and even getting a few Grade 4 Raw materials. Felt like actual exploration. Best thing I have done in the game thus far. I subsequently discovered loads of systems and planets, some of which I landed on and just explored around.

I am off now on return journey back to the bubble......

p.s. is a shame there doesn't seem to be a stat on what systems and Planets you (as an individual Cmdr) have discovered and mapped. There are stats for nearly everything else. Wonder if this will be included in future updates?...

Awesome! Now you just need to get a Krait Phantom kitted out with 65LY range and every mod con you could want. That’s my go-to “gotta be somewhere quick” ship, now.

It's all part of the game mechanics with lots of 'gotchas' which increases a player's gaming
experience. With the next ship purchase this won't be an issue as the player knows about it.

Immersion theory: Ship transfers are done by huge NPC fleet carrier type haulers that can go
anywhere and use a cloaking device so that players never see them. This device was in previous
Elite games but not available for ED players...yet.

With ship transfer, they are transferred by a carrier vessel, so the jump range of your ship is irrelevant.

Personally I don't see it as a major issue as there was a solution to your predicament. But yeah, they should have been selling better FSDs though.

You might like these two, then:

I think Inara also can do at least part of that job.

MadDogM, correct me if I am wrong but I thought you can only transfer stuff in storage you have previously purchased? Given that I didn't expect to be in this position, I didn't pre buy a large FSD! Maybe I will start a storage collection for just in case items.....

You will learn that it pays to have a range of core modules engineered and stored so that you can switch out as needed. I'm afraid you just learnt one of EDs flaws the hard way.
Btw, the new coriolis ship builder includes a button that shows you all stations that sell everything in your ship build... It saves you from exactly this issue! Here is a Cobra mk3 example. Click on the $ sign to see stations where you can get this build.

Steve, very kind offer, but am just playing Solo at the moment as fairly new to the game. Intend to join Open Play soon.

But even with your offer, you would still think (within the rules created in this game) that you could get on your Galactic Iphone, or send an interstellar pigeon to order some stuff!

May I suggest playing in one of the private groups like Mobius where they ban PvP game play (so that you know that you are playing with friendly cmdrs) or create your own PG so that others can join you that you invite.

I will gladly help you if you are willing? Either in your own PG or my own or in Mobius or other PvE only group.🙂

Nice one cmdr!
Have you enjoyed it.......or for most of the time?
If you have then it's a job well done for both you & Frontier:D

Sadly couldn't buy one somewhere else as I couldn't get anywhere else (till I bought the small Hauler then did ship transfer). Or can you book on a flight as a passenger and get a lift elsewhere? Haven't done that yet

Being a foot passenger will be a thing in Odyssey whenever that update is released!
