New AMD 16.1 Hotfix drivers - Include fix for Win10 and Supercruise FPS issues

If my understanding is correct, since you have a 60hrz monitor, you are still seeing 60 fps even when you show a higher FPS indicated due to your GPU duplicating frames. So in essence, you're overworking your GPU and not getting anything in return.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I have a 60hrz monitor as well, and have vsync turned on to prevent tearing and to prevent my GPU from overworking when it doesn't need to.

Note* I'm running a 60hrz monitor with a pair of AMD R285's.

I agree, in my case i use a 32" lcd tv for my monitor, as it doubles for the tv in my bedroom witch i watch at night in bed. So 1080p resolution is my max, i use v-sync because i see no reason to work my card at over 60fps, i don't see the benefit on my tv, it keeps the temps cooler, and hopefully might even make my card last longer. Either way, there is absolutely no point in running at 100+fps.

I'll apologise as soon as they say sorry for breaking our promise about the DRM free single player offline copy of your game. Mkay ;)

It was not a promise it was a goal that they missed that's life live with it, the game would be completely static off-line. Also it is not about DRM it is about a working galaxy, some people!!!!!

Using Windows 10, FX-8350, 32GB, R9 280X, V-Sync also on.

Don't get me wrong - 53FPS as a low point in SC (possibly slightly lower when approaching a planet for landing) is a massive improvement for me - I was previously seeing less than 10FPS on some occasions in SC. Well pleased with the result.

I had a similar issue Rob, are you running with V-sync on or off? I tried it off but noticed a fluctuation in the FPS, turned it on and back to a steady 60. Just a thought :)

Had a spot of bother here.
Applied 16.1 on the day it came out. Yesterday resulted in a game crash in a different game, post which my PC was looking very gloomy about rebooting from, i.e. sat in the BIOS splash screen for a while.
This morning, crashed in ED with a similar issue. I've uninstalled 16.1 and gone back to an earlier version (15. something). So far, no crashes.
My "guess", is that 16.1 makes a BIOS change to my GPU, which is resulting a conflict during initial boot. Note that my PC never made it to the point of even trying to load the OS (Win10), so I don't think it's software related.

Anyone else have the same?

Drivers do not make BIOS changes. Ensure you uninstall your older AMD drivers before installing.

I just keep reelin em in. lol

To those talking about v sync, just use the Framerate Target Control instead. Same affect (reduced GPU workload), none of the drawbacks of v sync.

I'm not a developer for AMD, so I'm happy to go with your comment.
For all that, I've not had a similar issue since removing the 16.1 drivers and going backwards.
Right now, just trying to understand if I'm the only person who's experienced this.

Quick update, looks like my issue might have been due to the physical location of a hard drive in my PC. No idea how that could influence things quite so much, unless a cable was partly loose (thought they were positive locked on SATA cable...). Either way, I'll be giving 16.1 another try shortly.

Yes, all good here :)
At first it did not work but the new driver I installed this morning on win 8.1 had te be installed again after upgrading to win 10.
Sorry for the other double thread.

-------------------
Since I have same attention from AMD card users...
In some old software version I did set the FPS limit to 60 but now I cannot change that any more, yes I can make it lower in the ED settings but
not higher, if I skip the limit it keeps that limit of 60.
The global radeon software crimson edition settings have no effect.
Now 60 is not bad, it's more the helplessness-feeling that I cannot change it that makes me crazy :)
(has it to do with the refresh rate?)

Thats computers for ya. :) I've seen cases where two memory sticks worked perfectly together except for Fallout 3. it worked in any other game, either of the sticks alone worked in FO3, but together, in that game, it didn't. Why? Beats me. Its part of why consoles are such a success, you simply dont have to tear out your hair every once in a while. :)

Do you find that it cycles - from max to a lower rate then it seems to recover to the max (and repeat)?

My first impression was that the driver was doing some form of "housekeeping" to tidy up whatever used to cause the crippling slow-down. My monitor is 60Hz max so I have my output rate limited to that rate an was seeing 60 > 53/55 > 60 > repeat last night.

I did, normally I use vsync with eyefinity but when the driver first came out I turned off vsnyc to see what was really happening. Like you mention and I think I mentioned in another thread when 16.1 first appeared, I was having 65 to 55 fluctuations. Not sure about the interval but they were fairly frequent.

To the people using vsync on, why?

I have it off (in all games, except fallout 4 coz I cant find the option) I am on a 60hz monitor, get fps 100+ average - never dips below 60 (now drivers are sorted) and also never get any tearing with vsync off
I have a HD 5650 (FPS below 60 hz, more 20-50ish) and use EDtracker. With Vsync off I get artifacts when moving my head.

Anyone know if I (in any way) can download this hotfix for my HD5800 (legacy product)?
I have a HD 5650 and needed to do this to get rid of artifacts, spikes etc. Only the tweaked Omega driver works for me at this point. Thx Leshcatlabs to make my old laptop run EDH.

Hey Babelfisch,

The issue wasnt the driver, it was actually that the hard drive failed. The drivers are fine now that I have a new hard drive.

If anybody cares,
I had real problens with interdictions (interdicting 'enemy' ships in powerplay I'd fail to interdict 9/10 since the Horizons update) - after this driver update I am now successful around 19/20 times....

I figured a supercruise fix might also fix the awful failure rate in interdiction, and in my case it did.

(AMD R7 275X, Win 10)

Yay this is finally fixed. It wasn't that big a deal for me except when getting interdicted or more recently interdicting baddies. I havn't read all 6 pages of replies so maybe this has been asked, but I suspected what ever the game does in SC was related to how it computes shaders. Took a really long time, now it's nice and speedy. My system is an FX8350 Vishara 4.3Ghz 8 core, Radeon R9 390, 16GB Ram, Dell Ultrasharp 34" 3440x1440 ultra wide monitor.

Edit: OK after reading through all 6 pages I also wanted to mention a few more things. When I had an HD monitor (1080) and a Sapphire Radeon 7870, in SC I was getting between 5 and 8 FPS sometimes below 5 like 2 - 4 if there where other players in the system, this would also include wing mates. I upgraded to the Sapphire R9 390 Nitro Back Plate OC Edition, blah blah plastic bubble extender with a kung fu grip... card, FPS went to an average of around 10 - 11 FPS. Again it would be lower if there were other commanders in the system. I then upgraded my monitor to the 34" ultra wide mentioned above. FPS in SC was exactly the same. With this new driver It sits around 55 to 60 FPS, I have VSYNC off, but that's around where it sits anyway. Not sure why but VSYNC on ultra wide monitors seems to make games a little... grumpy... at times. I get around 45FPS on big planet stations, and about 55fps in big spinny stations. All my graphical settings are maxed (except AA is disabled). I would think the R9 390 would do a little better than that buuuuut it *IS* pushing nearly 5 million pixels. I havn't notices any significant frame rate drop in SC when winged up with friends, But I honestly forgot it was a problem since the new driver.

Back to pirate hunting and running trade missions to buy that next ship. Wheeeee.
