New Backer - Can't help but feel a little shortchanged

I still find hard to believe people see SC as a complete space game for just over 30 $...

It has literally NO space. All you have is a huge map with lotsa checkpoints.
Want to jump to another system? Approach the checkpoint.
Want to land on a planet? Go to checkpoint.
Want to move to another part of the map? Yep, checkpoint.

What bugs me about that game is that is anything but seamless.
I had enough of that already with privateer, and although I finished Freelancer I still think it was mediocre at best and surpassed by starlancer. Which was, justified this time, a simpler but better game.

I hope that regardless of what game you all chose, you'll get what you expect.
Knowing the past elite games, I'm pretty sure it can't go wrong.
Thank to my wife that accepted the investment. :)

Privateer was an awful game!!! the previous two were ok but nothing special
Thats why I am here and no where near SC forum. ED is all I need:cool:

Hello WhoaTony.

The answer to your question is quite simple....

Elite Dangerous will be a better quality game than Star Citizen. Like most things in life, the more you pay for something, the better quality you get.

I hope that helps. Regards, Oddball.

Try telling that to the people ripped off 40ukp for X:R...

Well, for the time it was ok. Good almost.

It had a proper plot, which Elite lacked.
But apart from that, it was inferior in every aspect.

Worth a try but not the ticket.

Privateer was an awesome game for its time. Does it stand up today? Well, perhaps not. Few games do, Elite included.

Frankly, I think that SC and ED will both rock in their own ways. They're not the same experience, and for that I'm thankful. Proclaiming one superior to the other before anybody has seen them in action is folly.

Sorry I cant help but disagree When I finished privateer 15 or so years ago I felt ripped off! Yeah big budget hollywood actors and all the bells and whistles.. it was just a 1 play game and then forget it

I tend to agree with Komemiute more but I still think its was very subpar!

Bedsides, even after release, other than that they are space adventures they really can't be compared any better than comparing let say Jack Chalker's and Peter Hamilton's books and stories. - Same medium, different trust.

Big budget Hollywood actors? In Privateer? Are we talking about the same game? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wing_Commander:_Privateer)

Because I agree that Privateer TWO sucked - plain and simple. (http://spoonyexperiment.com/2010/03/25/privateer-2-the-darkening-review/)

Now that game had FMV and some big name actors, but the gameplay was totally broken and it wasn't even a true sequel (not in the same universe, nor the same creative team).

Privateer The First had some halfway decent voice actors (some!), was all in-game cutscenes (no actors) and was actually very innovative for its time. It took what games before it (Elite of course) did and added a nice story and Robert's trademark immersion (in-game computer 'ipad' for save games/mission tracking, ship upgrades that you could see appear on your ship when you purchased them, etc.)

Heh! No worries. Yes, it's been a long time, hasn't it? Makes me feel old. ;)
