New Camera Mode

OMG omg OMG omg OMG!!!!

I just nerdgasmed after seeing this new feature.. This is what I have been waiting for, for so long... this just creates so many new ways to create content...

THANKYOU FRONTIER THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU..

ok.. clean up in aisle 6....

Looking forward to seeing your content!

The camera system looks fantastic, and there were a number of options there in the UI that they didn't show off. Exciting stuff!

I think it'll be ok if people can fight in 3rd person because they'll presumably just be killed in 3rd person without access to their sights and instruments and menus. So it would allow for spectacular combat shots when players are intentionally being a combat "film set" for each other, or a ship recording real combat but unable to actually contribute much real damage. I don't think people are going to want to suffer such a heavy disadvantage out in the wild. (Griefers might find some annoying behavior that it enables, but that's to be expected)

We'll just wait a few weeks and find out! :D

Looking forward to some epic Machinima space battles, possibly combined with very-doable live action cockpit shots.

Nothing better than players getting decent tools for their creations.
Thoroughly impressed with the new camera, soooo long overdue.
Guess that's my paintjob embargo over ☺

We may even be able to see our self's landing the ship as you can just about fly and move the camera at the same time...

Or better yet.
Someone can man the camera, and another flies the ship.
Considering I have no intention of fielding turreted guns any times soon, that might be all that's left for a gunner to do on an fdl, python, corvette etc etc.

Good luck fighting without a radar, power distributor, etc :D

It's also going to be great fun with the camera on the SRV on (say) a dusty surface, hill climbing, valley running, etc.

Not to mention shots with the SLF ...

am salivating here hehe.

I am hoping they'll add (if it's not there yet) a mouse wheel control for the SPEED of camera movement, so we can control how fast camera zooms in, rotates, etc.

That would be (probably) an easy thing to implement, but would give us a complete freedom to create amazing vids and such.

As I said in the livestream thread, I'm fervently hoping those actions will still be bindable to continuously variable, analog controller axes, as that is central to how I use the camera for DarkenSpace externals: via gradually varying the speed of motion in multiple axes during the course of a single shot.

As long as I can still do that, I can see myself having WAY too many camera options to choose from after 2.3 lands. What a beautiful problem that will be!

If it turns out we can fight in 3rd person using this.
Ill be rather annoyed, as I bought a first-person only game.

Technically you can, from what I saw, but you won't have access to your HUD during combat.

Maybe I'm reading too much into things, but I really do feel like they're setting us up for space-legs....even if only within the confines of our ships!

On face value its an improvement but its yet to be seen how much freedom it will offer. That said something just occurred to me.

I wonder if when combined with multicrew if it will allow player crew to engage camera mode, thus allowing those not in command of the helm to be camera men. Potentially making for some awesome combat footage to be captured, etc..

They didn't seem to want to go into it in too much detail. Perhaps they are saving that for the next stream?
