New Mining Ship for Beyond - Looking for feed back before purchase

FWIW, I did end up building a Krait Mk2 mining ship, just cos I happened to have one going spare, and I like a bit of variety.

Compared to the Python, it's got a slightly smaller shield and one less collector.
On the plus side, it can jump 3Ly further, it's a bit faster and it's definitely more nimble.

Either ship is a good choice, really.

If I have learned anything from reading all the threads is there are only 3 ships in this game:
Python
Krait Mk2
Anakonda
Personally I use the AspX

You really seem to enjoy the Krait and that's really nice o9

🍻

... and you don't really need a scoop. There are plenty of ice rings in the bubble, even pristine one (not that it matters) and the Krait has an almost decent range.

So I've just had a crack at the old void opal mining and was lucky enough to find a void opal hotspot in the very first ice ring I visited. I only collected 14 void opals on this first jolly as I had underestimated the number of limpets I'd need and didn't have the materials to keep synthesising more. So I decided to sell up. I managed to sell them for 1.4 million a piece and the station I sold them to said it would take 24 in total.

This leaves me thinking - while it may be possible to stock up on a 100 millions worth of void opals in an hour you're not really earning 100 million an hour by the time you factor in finding stations to sell them to and travelling to said stations. Probably half that in reality. Not that I'm going to complain. Its still a pretty good return on time investment and a great distraction for the moment.

If I'm somehow doing it wrong, please let me know :).

This next time I'm going out with a stock of 40 limpets and I'll see how that goes.

Carry 3/4 of your cargo with limpets. You can always abandon them if your getting full.

I suspect the commodities selling is a bit broken at the moment. I dropped off 100 opals to a station which had on demand for 1 only yesterday. Just target the highest close sale price and see where you get to. You might be surprised..

Might as well pretty-much fill your cargo hold with limpets completely.
I tend to find that, if I've got 128t of cargo space, buying 100 limpets works out about right.
Thing is, if you get really lucky and stumble across a bunch of core 'roids one after the other, you can always dump limpets to make space for more cargo.

As for mining profits, EDDB is your friend.
Use it to find the place with the best selling-price for a commodity, take your stuff there to sell, then try to find a source of that thing close to where you can sell it.
Bear in mind that things change, though, so it's always best to double-check with EDDB before selling.

Meh.. go with the anaconda.

You can put a lot of stuff on it and defend yourself at the same time. You can cash in 200t + of void opals and it has decent jump range so you can sell high. One trip and it's paid for basically.

I do this, full of limpets. The first couple dozen I do target and collect. One time use basically. That beats dumping them for nothing. Then if I get close to full inventory I will target some fragments and kill a few more worn limpets. If you find a fragment that's clipped inside a rock, check to see how close you are to full inventory. You can then target the rock and kill a few limpets to start fresh with new ones.

Just little things to occupy your time. You won't run out of limpets, I haven't. I run out of cargo space though until I have only a few limpets left.

I had my best time out mining today, AspX holds 68tons took 58 limpets mined 61 VO sold for 101Mil ;)

I use a Python for the new mining. I don't feel I need AFMUs. I just have a whole lot of cargo racks, a detailed surface scanner, a prospect limpet controller and a collector limpet controller, and a scoop for optional internals. Two seismic chargers, two mining lasers, and an abrasion thingy. And the pulse thing and a shield. I think that's it.

That's exactly what I did. The selling price ranges from a few tens of thousands to over a million per unit. EDDB was telling me that the demand at the very top prices was only 1 or 2 units so I didn't bother wasting time. I went for the one that said demand was 46 ( the only double figures one at the time ) and when I got there demand was only 24.

My assumption then is this: Other players fill up the demand.

But if the demand just varies over time and is different for each player then do let me know.

Currently Low Temp Diamonds are selling well.

This site is also useful for finding the best sell station. you can select any commodity and there is an option to filter for best sell, in addition a feature on the right to enter "near star system" so you can get a good estimate of distance.

In regards to the demand fluctuation i would take the price listing for Inara and EDDB as a "best guess" situation. my experiencing with them is they are rarely spot on but most of the time are fairly close. it depends on the last reported update.

Ahh so my assumption was correct. Players satisfy demand meaning it ebbs and flows as players sell commodities. This means it's pretty much a lottery as to which system you will be able to sell in.

I went with a similar mining Python build and it's a good balance of maneuverability, speed, and loadout.

Mining in anything other than a Type-9 is time that should have been spent mining in a Type-9.

Sadly the T9 was outside my budget.

I'm having issue with the pulse wave scanner today. The brightest yellow shiny roids are consistently coming out with low resource yields and no core. I should probably employ some percussive maintenance on it. Anyone got a hammer?

The glow of some asteroids can be deceiving.

This guide is what i followed. and only after many many bright yellow with low resource did i notice in addition to the color/brightness you have to look at the shape also.
