New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

The straw that broke the camels back and I've asked for a refund. (New planet tech that is.)
The game directors/producers obviously has no idea what they are doing and are completely out of touch with what the community wants or expects in a game like Elite Dangerous.
If only they worked in consultation with the community, things could of been a lot different!
Hello Games for example surveyed there community after there failed launch and No Mans Sky was the better for it.
Frontiers communication is terrible! I think bad communication and arrogance is at the heart of there problems.

No - the game is obviously very, very seriously broken and bad. For him, and many others.
People do seem to happily conflate suggestions of broken and buggy graphics with the 'downgrade' thing. The two are very different. Rushed development is still something to criticise, but in that case it's important to find out who was pushing who to get it out the door.

I do think it's quite reasonable to look at some things and judge them either broken or just bad fidelity.

Just dropped in from the glide so not too far, I was able to fly through the canyons in the corvette.
Ah...ok. Sorry to be kinda specific, but was quite interested in altitude. That's been the only terrain I've yet seen in Odyssey that looks like it might be worth bothering looking at.
Any idea how high the walls are?

Cant prove that on my side. Cept that his gfx looks exactly like low settings.

Heres another example, on foot. LOW vs ULTRA. Rings any bells?

I want to see Felicity's base - apples to apples.
This is actually easier said than done because Farseer Inc. is located in a different place in Odyssey and there's somewhere around a 12 hour difference between the two if you want to take side-by-side comparisons in the same lighting conditions. I was going to do it but I'm not patient enough, haha.

I think the terrain there is bugged in Odyssey though. When I visited it looked disproportionately bad even by Odyssey standards.

I play on high settings. My game looks like your bottom screenshot. And when you land your ship. The difference in the ground textures compared to Horizon are massive.

Both on HIGH:

Note though that this thread is about tiling textures. Not about the low texture fidelity. I realize you've started a bit of a vendetta on the subject :)
My ground doesnt look like that. Your ground looks like LOW textures quality. Which or you set it to low or you have that bug.

People are being honest about their settings, and what they are seeing.

It's more a question of how people think, they just focus on worst examples-- and that serves a purpose and is of benefit. It does seem though there's a bit of a refusal to acknowledge the game can actually look pretty good at times with the new tech. It's important to accept this because it strongly suggests much of this awfulness is broken code not just bad development.

This latest tile-cloning thing though? I don't know. It's getting pretty horrendous how widespread it is by each post.

This is how ground textures should look. If not like that, then your hardware is bad\game is buggy for you.

And game looks great.

I'm off to bed but you can check the planet out if you want, it's not far from Shinrata, system LTT 3607, planet A 4.

Gentle reminder that this thread is about the tiling of the planetary features (and textures at low altitude).

I'll admit the issue is larger than I expected when I first posted it. I figured it was a rather unique anomaly but the number of examples posted is insane. Now that I am playing more as well I am literally seeing the tiling on every individual planet.

If you are looking to discuss the quality of the planetary surfaces, you should really do it here:

For the tilling issue, please remember to fill the issue tracker: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/34834

The terrain look bad. Around the srv there are no details, the hill textures is slapped randomly to make it look like it's rough. The view of the galaxy and the sun rising is OK. But I've seen beautiful skyboxes in games for a while now.
The snow texture itself looks perfectly fine. I mean snow does actually look quite plain in reality. The hills do look ugly yes, it's something I've stated myself many times-- in the texturing and the formations, and the way it blends into the snow looks bad as well.

I'm not sure it's snow. I've seen that kind of texturing a lot, and I don't think it's always snow. It's supposed to be something else sometimes, like dirt or ice.
