New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

@Old Duck
Horizons - as others have said, as the base is in a different location between Horizons and Odyssey, it's not apples to apples

So not only Dr. Ross was full of "it" but we also now have a No Man's Sky planet generator instead of the actual "full" procedural one?

Wow. Way to mess up a game about exploring the galaxy. 400 billions of copy/pasted planets. Dear me.

And the ones of you saying that this repetition is as good or BETTER than the old system... or that it doesn't matter because the area of the planet is still big... you people are delusional beyond saving. I hope your shares will bottom - because there is no other explanation to this nonsense than being a shareholder and protecting your assets. Every other option instantly becomes an insult.

The issue is that all the ground I've seen look exactly like that weird "snow". Color changes, but it's all bland ? Like the OP posted in his video.

And the cliff are horrible IMO, look like poorly slapped rough textures.
Part of the problem is that still shots don't tell the entire picture. That's all I have for reference, where you have the actual experience. I'll have to watch more videos to really get a feel for all of this.

Though those stills of Farsee are damning no matter how you slice it.

Planets do not look good. This is at max graphics with ultraforscreenshot on. It actually runs fine for me and there's even ground textures sometimes. The top two images are of different planets, though you may think them to be the same. Most planets I've seen have been beige or grey like this. The fact that it's tiled makes the fact that planets really do feel the same make that much more sense.

When this is part of your ad on store pages, I expect to see this in the game. Icy worlds are my favorite kinds to visit and all of the ones I've seen in Odyssey so far look like they've been dropped in a septic tank.

It's a big-time downgrade from Horizons in terms of exploration, what is the point of exploring, if you're going to find the same copy-pasted geographical features across the entire galaxy?
Horizons doing same thing, cept that there only one biome on one planet and in Odyssey there few. Planets are more varied.

People here say this can be fixed by just adding more patterns ...can it? If a person cannot fly through the whole ED galaxy in his whole lifetime - there is equally no amount of additional pattern that will really fix this issue.

Here you go. It's not... pretty. 6 GB NVidia GTX 1660 Ti, i5-9300H @ 4.0 GHz (turbo boost). Texture quality set to high, terrain quality: ultra, terrain LOD blending: ultra, terrain work maxed out, 8xAA forced in NVidia control panel.

In addition to the blocky, speckled ground texture, note the lack of detail in the far off surface mip-mapping. Nothing of the detailing on the cliff surfaces or the gravel on the ground is visible from afar.

(Also its location has been moved about 900 km on the surface of Deciat 6A.)

Cheers!
I have some idea about why this might be happening. In Horizons they probably built Farseer Base into the procedurally generated terrain that they found on Deciat 6 A. But now that the procedural generation algorithm has changed, they have to recreate the previous terrain using a fixed height map that is stored in the game files as an asset. The resolution of that height map is too low to accurately recreate the original terrain, and that's why everything is softened.

This (Horizons) looks better? LOL Then go play your ugly looking Horizons.
I would be happy playing Horizons as it is till the end of time. I mean, I'll be super sad that there is no future for the game, but at least the game I paid good money (three copies plus cosmetics) would be there.

Unfortunately Frontier is threatening to replace Horizon planetary tech with Odyssey tech this Fall, along with that terrible new UI.
