New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

Why is this inane thread still going?

:D S
Because Elite is a space game - space is fairly empty, it has dust and stars and planets, we can only closely look at and interactive with planets and the new planet tech has a serious flew and the developers admit they are unwilling to bother fixing it.

Some people can settle for less and are happy to ignore faults, good for them, they can pay for a premium product and praise it when it's broken, good for them. They get what they deserve.

I've played this game for 6/7 years now - I guess I got more than my money's worth from my 3 accounts, but I definitely did NOT get anything close to my money's worth from Odyssey, with bugs and glitch and unplayabe frame rates I've been able to actually play less than a hour, the rest of the time was trying to find settings to make it playable without it looking terrible! - but some people got lucky with their PC's - good for them.

Sorry to hear that you've only been able to play Odyssey for an hour.

You should update and play Odyssey again. The planets look much better than at launch, following the many improvements to planets in Updates 5 through 7, and as you can see from the comments of Odyssey explorers in the main "tiling will stay as is, no galaxy regen" thread, the "patterns repeat everywhere" issue is rarely noticeable now and no longer a problem.

I've run ( not played ) Odyssey each time a new update has been released, just to see if my frame rate was playable or not - as of Update 10 the answer was no. Then my PC died and had to buy a new one, so Update 11 is playable ( but only because I have a new PC ) - I've spend about an hour or so setting up my controls again and testing stuff but frankly 8 months of not being able to play Odyssey has killed my desire and the last announcement about not fixing the new planet tech is the final straw.

I'll watch todays official live stream - if nothing serious and positive is announced then I'll be uninstall Elite tonight and I'll delete my forum account ( must to the delight of the rose tinted fans of this mess that is Odyssey ).

Not lucky, just having a PC to play current games in 4K, rather than one where gaming is an 'also' rather than primary use.
My PC was running Windows and for Gaming only, because Windows sucks and hate it and don't use it for anything else - my monitor is only 2k so 4k was never a requirement and every game I've played on my old PC was playable at 2k, including a LOT of games that have much better visuals than Odyssey ( which honestly is pretty much all games! ) you can't tell me that games like Cyberpunk ( which looks great ) are less demanding than Odyssey!

My preferred OS is Linux - I gave up trying to run Odyssey on Linux when realised that it can't even run at decent frame rate on the OS it was designed for!

@Jack Winter plays EDO in linux, although I have no idea of his PC specs.
Since getting the Index I may take a look at running EDH/EDO in VR on Opensuse too, now that I'm free of Oculus' grasp.

I'll just quote this for future reference... ;)

I believe @Bottom Hat would be open to accepting your soul as replacement.
