New player Advice from a New Player ( Non Combat )

If you are like me and not a combat fan in space, easiest way I found starting out is. Get a Hauler ASAP find a Start Base in a System with Agriculture and Tourism. Haul Tea to all adjacent Extraction and Industrial Systems be sure to mark them because those systems have decent ships. Make the Tourist star base/port your home system. Once you build your credits to 1m Start Hauling gold from the extraction Stations you Marked to the best price location listed within One jump on the market Tab of Buy. You can also open the galaxy map from this tab to mark the location with the best price. Hauling gold should build you to 10M pretty fast. Once this is done you have options. Some rep will be Ally and you will probably gained some promotions. You now have two choices. Buy a Dolphin and do the tourism thing from your home System or upgrade to a Type-6 Hauler. Total time that I did this was between 4-6 hours. After that sky’s the limit. Enjoy!!

forgot to mention also mark the closest High Tech Star port to your home system they usually have the most ships and components

EDIT: if any of you Famous YouTubers want to test it out and make a non combat guid feel free it works 1. Because tea and Gold is always in demand. 2 haulers you can get after doing two currier missions in the starting zone. 3 lastly no one really has a non combat guide and with my YouTube I simply don’t get the views haha

Hum. The common guides (for rapid progress) actually suggest kitting out that Hauler as an explorer and then hit the Road 2 Riches (I.e. water planet scanning). Do that until you have about 10 mil, then buy an Asp X and outfit her as a miner. One cargo hold full of the gem of the month will buy you a Python. Repeat as long as you like.

Actually if you look at my streams I spent three days exploring for 3.4m and hauling did that in 2 hours with tea and gold
Also if your ambitious you can do currier missions on the go plus you get promotions and rep for trading as well for even better missions etc

Okay that is pretty quick ^^
Well I should say a few hours it all depends though and the way I seen it who loves gold as a rare commodity? Tourists who loves there tea? Workers. You can even do silver and coffee they are always in demand

currently I am buying gold for 49k and selling for 53-55k I just dumped 133 units off at my home system However I am in a Type-7 and not maxed cargo my last load I made 900k now if I had my Keelback I could be doing max 80 units for 67k so it’s a toss up. I can fit 234 or so units in the T7...

Seems like a good or fair strategy however EVERYONE will run into combat at some point even deep space explorers get pew pew'd. Many trade and haul missions as you build rank and rep have NPC targets attached to them that will interdict and kill you. If you play in OPEN once you start engineering or trading in big ships near to community goals and in areas with lots of player factions you'll come up against a pirate, ganker or murderer at some stage unless you're in SOLO. High level NPCs in engineered ships can be quite hard. My advice to any new players is make sure you do the combat tutorials and learn the defensive tactics to run away and survive. Make sure you have Chaff bound and that you don't ever fly without shields and always make sure you have insurance costs.

I personally wouldn't ever take pure bred trader ships if I don't have friends or know about combat, also if if I were to trade in an area that's unknown to me.

If you're a combat n00b don't bother with a Type 7 or Type 9 get yourself a Conda, Type 10 or Corvette something that can carry good cargo but have guns and shields. At the end of the day would you rather shift 600 units of goods have little to no protection in a Type 9 or take a slightly smaller Conda haul 300-350 but stay alive considerably longer.

I only fly my Type 9 for single mission hops when friends are online or I'm in my home system. Been targeted too many times at engineer bases and mining zones to be naive enough to think the galaxy is safe. I remember doing a rares run in my Type 9 before engineering making 22 jumps to then be ganked by a member of CODE ;-)

Here's where the experience (of others) comes in. You can make that money through exploration in the (about) same time ;).
Start of with the basic Sidey. Do one mission, ideally (for my example) to end up at Matet. Equip a D rated Fuel Scoop, ditch the guns and swap in a 2D FSD (slightly more than 10k total).
Then go out and do a FSS scan of these three systems:
BPM 26940
HIP 58121
LHS 1939
They'll give you slightly above 100k Cr. each. Use that money to buy a DSS and a 2B FSD (might even be enough for a 2A FSD, but let's not get greedy). The DSS will multiply your earnings, so now go and do the list found here, DSS'ing all the listed planets:
18 planets, 73 jumps, 9 MCr.

Just don't land anywhere outside the starter area (unless you want to lose your permit), as that'll definitely give you an exploration rank.

Ok I am just landing still not max cargo of gold
Let’s see what I get this time... 1.05m profit if you want to look. So 2 jumps 1.95m
It's good to see something more grounded then the typical road to riches or mining approach to make starter money.

A word of advice though: if the gains are really good, keep trade routes for yourself, and turn off all reporting tools like EDMC etc.
Otherwise everyone soon knows about them and supply/demand will quickly run out and the route goes down the dodo.

The thing about the trade route doesn’t matter so much here is why go to another sector find a tourist trap rinse repeatedly while the other one settles down Also switch it up a bit try silver and coffee or some precious metals. And thanks for the compliment Treya it’s appreciated!! Would be nice if a big league Youtuber tried and makes a Video (sorry phone Typos haha ) that would blow my mind!! Also in less than a day I have went from a Cobra mk3 to a Type-7 and 9m in my pocket hehe

Edit: just looked at my cargo 296 units I am trying silver and could not fill my cargo I will update the profit margin.

interesting in my home station silver was down but I have noticed even in the same system each station is different for prices Anyhow I do realize you all use web pages for best prices I just like wandering around till I find a price I like haha! Enjoy trading everyone!

When I first started out (that was on launch day, over six ago), I knew I wasn't gonna be interested in pewpew.
With no 'kiddy playground' to protect me from the 'bad boys', the first thing I did was to set out away from the small number of start Systems that exsisted.
Once away for these area's I then found my own trade routes & with a mix of Exploration & Trading was soon well on the way in the game......never looked back ;)

The really big advantage of doing it the way you're doing it is that you're actually learning how the game systems work, how things fit together, etc. This has a lot of big advantages over asking a web page "where should I trade today?"

One thing I did when I was starting out and getting used to trade profits, was pick a destination for the day quite a distance away, set an economic route to that destination, and then try to make a profitable trade on each hop of the route - it's not always possible, but most systems have at least one station selling something which can be traded profitably to at least one station in the next system. For added variety, no trading the same good twice.

Yeah and I find web pages takes away from the fun for instance I just did a second jump to a high tech Facility and 220 units of silver for 1.6m that was nice Lmao!! Also I appreciate all the positive feedback from everyone it’s rare in a lot of gaming communities these days!!

I designed my own excel spreadsheet, so that I could input the market prices between half a dozen or so nearby System Stations for comparison

That is actually a good idea, I like surprises myself haha but for some people what you do is fun for people or at least easier to manage!

I set up my Home System as Caucuma.
It has it's closest entry Station at around 70-75Ls from the main Star & was at the west edge of the bubble, with lots of habitable Systems nearby - ideal for returning Expeditions to this western edge & spreading the data around the region, becoming Allied with every faction in each nearby System.

'sigh'....been a while since I was in the 'old' Home System

I just printed off a couple of dozen of these spreadsheet pages as I needed them........though looking at those sheets now, Fdev have added soo many more new commodities since the early days!
Pencil & paper have been & still are my bestest ED friend.......oh! & my excel program ;)

Oh wow and yeah that’s pretty cool! Easy to get Ally as well doing trading. I am about to dump some gold off at a station took me two jumps let’s see what I get, wholly crap 216 units @ 2.29m sweeeet I almost have enough for a Kriat Phantom Lol!! Sometimes doing what is fun and enjoyable is better than grind or turning a game into work!
You could always pick it back up though maybe a little different from when you started and add more commodity’s to the spreadsheets at least for a project that is something You enjoy doing?
