Newcomer / Intro New Player (again!) Cant find missions - help please

That was it, completed my first data run, I have 22,000 credits, I'm rich,haha.
Upgraded my FSD so I can go a whole 9LY now

I don't know where you are but if you can get over to where I'm at right now in Empire space this short hop back and forth data mission work is doing well. I just played for 45 minutes and added another 2.5 million credits to my bank account. Took me 42 jumps in my Cobra to get here from close to my home system in Federation space. I'm based out of the Aphra system.
In a 9LY Sidey in Eravate to the imperial space? That would be a hell of a trip.
That it would and I'd upgrade my FSD to make it more manageable. Might have to upgrade the PP too. I'm doing the Mainani to Ngalinn back and forth run. 3.82 lys between them so it goes really fast. One jump and the stations are real close to the star. Gotta rep up at first and then the stacked missions start showing up with very easy time bonus's added. Got allied with the Empire and jumped two Navy ranks as well and wasn't even trying.
To add to Mo Ronik's offer: you seem to be in the US, but if you're in game while I play (usually European time/UTC in the evenings), I'm pretty friendly with Lave and could hop over to give you a boost (e.g. Wing mission).

At the moment, that'll get you a guaranteed payout of 200,000 Cr., likely to reach 600-800 kCr. by the time the CG finishes (the payout per level increases with the "tiers" that the CG reaches, based on how much the community delivers in total).

I got back to my home station last night. I think I was there for a total of 3 playing hours running those data missions. I got there with 2 1/4 million credits and I came home with 13 1/2 million credits, the rank of Knight in the Imperial Navy and I got a system permit for the Achenar system. Is there something special about the Achenar system? I looked on Inara and nothing stood out. Oh yeah, now that I'm a Knight I demand that everyone call me Sir Mo from this point forward. I'm feeling all fancy now...

Achenar is the capital of the Empire. We do not want riff-raff cluttering up the system, just proven supporters of the Emperor.

Achenar is quite beautiful system. I really like it there. Not special in any particular way, but there is the case of Achnar 3, of course. Achenar 3 has... how to put it... a lot of... mass.
You should definitely try it. It's really educational to try and land there, and thanks to the insane gravity, the whole planet surface is really flat and it's awesome to drive an SRV there. As opposed to normal SRV driving, dune buggy style full of sliding and U-turns, on Achenar 3, the SRV sticks to the ground like an F1 car. It's awesome.

. The game started, I did tutorials, now I am milling about doing data runs wherever it logged me in. I certainly don't know where Federation space is. My ED goals are fairly humble, I just want to get a ASP and get a feel for the galaxy. I hear the ASP is the best experience for VR. So yes, I do want to make money to get there, but I don't want to do anything that implies a grind. Your 35 jump screnio actually sounds fun - once , but not back and forth.Home system? Is that just something I decide?

The ship is your home as long as you have just one. But once you've started gathering a small fleet, it's handy to pick a system and station you like, either visually or for their services and keep yourself organized.
And to fill in the blanks left here, the Alliance Capital is in Alioth, and the Federation is in Sol. You'll need corresponding permits for those systems too if you want to visit.

I did that very thing at first and while I was doing those initial data and courier missions I kept my eye on the various stations I stopped at. Not only the stations themselves but what the shipyards and outfitting offers and the rest of the system too. I finally settled on the Aphra system making my home at the Beckman Terminal. It has decent outfitting and a shipyard but I did have to go to a neighboring system to get my Dolphin earlier today. The cost to ship my Sidewinder back home as just a touch over 1000 credits. Aphra has metal rich landable planets to gather some of your needed materials if you do engineering, it has two ringed planets for mining with all levels of REZ sites from fluffy bunny to fire breathing dragon. The terminal is fairly close to the star so when I jump back home it's an easy trek to the hangar. And, the mission board and passenger lounge has tons of missions doing all sorts of nonsense to keep you as busy as you want to be. Got two planetary bases here as well that need all sorts of stuff to keep operational so cargo hauling is a hoot. I suggest maybe start looking at the systems you jump to and see if you might like any of them for a home base unless you just want to do the one ship wandering role. Just keep in mind what you might want to do and try to match up a place that fits your needs. Might even create an account over on Inara to get immersed into the role playing aspect of ED. Click on my signature box and it'll take you to my Inara account so you can see what I mean about role playing. I keep a running logbook/diary of my imagined life in ED.

And a question on mission fulfillment please.
I did a coffee run, 21 units. My cargo size is 4...and I wasn't paying attention. So when I got to my destination it only showed partial fulfillment. Fine, I sold some stuff and now have a cargo of 8 and went back to the original base. However I cant find how to get the rest of the coffee. When I originally tried to fill my ship with the 21, it showed 3 in my ship and 18 in "hold", what is hold? How to I finish that mission? On the original station is there a "hold" I need to transfer from? I go to the Galaxy map it still show the destination as my mission. It says I will be fined if I don't complete it, and I imagine I will lose rep, etc. I just like to finish what I start....

Open up the mission on the mission board at the station where you picked up the mission. It should have a menu bar to load more of the cargo into your hold.
Let us know if this isn't working... I'm kinda going off the top-of-my-head and likely don't have the proper words for what I'm saying..

Yes, thanks, that is what I was looking for. I scrolled through ALL the missions, as I didn't remember which faction leader I got it from and I didn't see that bar.
For awhile I thought I landed back at the wrong station - but my son was running backup as I projected on the big screen, so he verified the station.
But I didn't see a mission bar to fill the rest of the inventory......

Generally, it would be at the top of the list. Above any new missions available. And I'm pretty sure there is a slight icon next to the faction listings which is a small indicator of ongoing missions (though, that might only be on completed ones, idk)
At any rate, if you are sure it's the correct station... I can only think to check very carefully on the mission boards. And to be sure you haven't run past the timer, or cancelled it. o7

Cancel it? I would love to do that too. But I think I would have the same problem, I have to find it first....
I am a system away, so I will go back. If its not there, then I did get lost.
Since it still shows as a Mission on my Galaxy Map, is there not some what I can click into that and verify my starting port? I will try that one myself. But the Galaxy Map and me in VR are still not friends....

Well, you can abandon it from the left-hand menu (the menu where you navigation panel is).
On the tab for the missions you can select it, and there is an option to abandon it at the bottom.
You will get a fine and whatnot for that... usually best to avoid this option as much as possible.
